A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions
Chapter 27: Something Happened to Lu Feng
Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Something Happened to Lu Feng
"Sister-in-law, is everything settled?" Wang Lu stood by the military vehicle, watching Fu Xiaoxiao lead Lu Chen out. He didn’t see Lu Lin, guessing he had already reported.
"Thank you for your help." Fu Xiaoxiao gave a light smile to Wang Lu.
"No need to mention it! If you need anything, just call me!" Wang Lu said with a smile, opening the car door for Fu Xiaoxiao.
On the way back, Wang Lu seemed to want to say something several times, as if there was something he wanted to say but didn’t know how to begin.
"Is there something on your mind?" Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Wang Lu, noticing his hesitation.
"Well... it’s like this... Camp Commander Lu completed his mission exceptionally well this time. The commander praised him for doing an excellent job," Wang Lu said softly to Fu Xiaoxiao.
If it’s good news, why say it so hesitantly?
Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Wang Lu, waiting for him to finish his sentence.
"Um... Sister-in-law, please don’t be upset. Camp Commander Lu achieved a great achievement this time, and there’s definitely a chance he could be promoted to regimental commander!" Wang Lu was still trying to say something good about Lu Feng, and Fu Xiaoxiao raised an eyebrow.
"Did Lu Feng get injured?" As soon as Fu Xiaoxiao spoke, Wang Lu’s face changed.
Oh wow, hit the nail on the head.
The boss got injured.
"Yes... Camp Commander Lu protected the other soldiers and was blown up. He’s fine, just still unconscious and on his way back. The commander asked me to let you know not to worry." Wang Lu cautiously glanced at Fu Xiaoxiao, seeing that she wasn’t angry.
"I understand." Fu Xiaoxiao nodded. "Tell the commander I’m not upset. He’s a soldier; saving others in danger is in his nature. How could I be angry because of this!"
If he got blown up, he must have a concussion at the very least.
"Sister-in-law." Wang Lu was moved.
He’s delivered messages so many times, and every sister-in-law would be angry or devastated as if the sky had fallen. None had ever reacted like Fu Xiaoxiao, still being considerate.
"Did Mr. Lu get injured?" Lu Chen heard about Lu Feng being hurt, jumped into Fu Xiaoxiao’s arms, trembling slightly, very scared. "Daddy was like that... and then never came home."
Fu Xiaoxiao and Wang Lu were both startled, and Wang Lu scolded himself internally for forgetting about Lu Chen! Saying such things in front of a child... was so inappropriate.
"When Mr. Lu comes back, we’ll go see him together. He’ll be okay, alright?" Fu Xiaoxiao hugged Lu Chen, gently comforting him.
"Hmm." Lu Chen nodded lightly, leaning into Fu Xiaoxiao’s embrace.
Back at the base, Fu Xiaoxiao carried Lu Chen out of the car and back home. Arriving at a familiar place, Lu Chen slowly regained his liveliness.
"Xiao Chen, what should we eat for lunch? What do you want to bring to brother?" Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t know what to make for lunch, so she decided to let Xiao Chen decide.
"As long as it’s made by you, brother likes everything. I like the pancakes you make, and the meat." As soon as Lu Chen heard Fu Xiaoxiao’s words, he immediately thought of the egg pancakes.
He liked that soft egg pancake the most.
"Is there any meat at home?" Fu Xiaoxiao looked around the kitchen, but there was no meat left.
"There is! I’ll show you!" Lu Chen’s eyes lit up, pulling Fu Xiaoxiao towards another room.
Fu Xiaoxiao looked at the room, with its military green bedspread and even the blankets folded into neat square shapes. Next to it was a desk and a wardrobe—everything could be seen at a glance.
Compared with her room, which had brand new wooden furniture and all necessary living supplies, it was a world of difference.
Fu Xiaoxiao was taken aback; Lu Feng really gave her the best of everything.
"Is the meat in Lu Feng’s room?" Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Lu Chen; this didn’t seem to be a room that would have meat.
"Hehe." Lu Chen beckoned with his little finger, walking up to Lu Feng’s wardrobe and opening it in front of Fu Xiaoxiao.
The wardrobe, which was supposed to hold clothes, contained a few pieces of cured meat wrapped in oil paper.
"..." This left Fu Xiaoxiao speechless for the first time.
Goodness! This sly fox.
The safest place is the most dangerous, indeed?
No matter how much Aunt Li thought about it, she would never guess that Lu Feng put cured meat in the wardrobe...
Fu Xiaoxiao took out a piece of cured meat, and Lu Chen smiled proudly.
"Did you and your brother put it here?" Fu Xiaoxiao guessed.
"Yeah, every time Aunt Li comes over, she takes all the meat in the house, and my brother and I don’t want the meat Mr. Lu buys to be taken by Aunt Li. But every time she comes, she searches the whole house, except for Dad’s room where she doesn’t dare go." Lu Chen puffed up his little chest.
"So my brother and I hid the meat in Dad’s wardrobe, and Aunt Li couldn’t find it and got angry, cursing at us. We pissed her off, hehe! This was my idea!"
"You really worked hard to come up with that idea." Fu Xiaoxiao ruffled Lu Chen’s hair, hoping that when Mr. Lu returned, he wouldn’t be surprised to find meat in his wardrobe.
"Hehe!" Lu Chen was so happy his little nose turned up.
"Since there’s meat, how about I make you guys some stir-fried cured meat rice?" Looking at the cured meat in her hand, Fu Xiaoxiao thought it was just right to have something rich.
"Then I’ll help you pick vegetables!" The moment Lu Chen heard they could eat meat, he rushed to the backyard to pick some vegetables.
Now both brothers were very skilled at it, knowing that Fu Xiaoxiao always added some green vegetables when she cooked.
Fu Xiaoxiao went into the kitchen, washed the rice, and saved the rinse water, then started cooking.
She approached the cutting board, sliced off a piece of cured meat, rewrapped the remaining pieces, and placed them back into the cupboard. The cured meat was cut into small dices for later use.
After a while, Lu Chen walked in with a disappointed look, lightly tugging on Fu Xiaoxiao’s clothes.
"What’s wrong?" Fu Xiaoxiao looked at him like this, wondering what was wrong.
"I couldn’t pull it out." Lu Chen lowered his head, feeling defeated.
Before, he used to run to the backyard with Lu Lin and saw his brother easily pulling out vegetables. Just now, he tried hard for a long time and only ended up tearing the vegetables, unable to pull them out.
Fu Xiaoxiao laughed at this endearing little guy.
"Let’s go." Fu Xiaoxiao picked up a small knife and brought Lu Chen back to the backyard.
In the middle, there was a clearly mistreated napa cabbage, and Lu Chen pouted, pointing at it.
Fu Xiaoxiao identified the target, smiled, and used the small knife to cut underneath, then waved Lu Chen over to pull it out.
Lu Chen was skeptical, but approached the napa cabbage he couldn’t pull out before. As soon as he exerted a bit of effort, the cabbage came out, and he was about to fall backward from using too much force.
Fu Xiaoxiao laughed, holding his clothes to lift him up, then gently setting him down.
"Thank you, my little helper." Fu Xiaoxiao patted Lu Chen’s head, taking the much-abused napa cabbage from his hands.
"Hehe." Seeing that he could really help, Lu Chen finally smiled happily.
Back in the courtyard, Fu Xiaoxiao tore the napa cabbage leaf by leaf, drawing water from the well to clean it. Lu Chen took his little stool, sat next to Fu Xiaoxiao, and washed the vegetables with her.
"Your little chair fits you well, doesn’t it?" Fu Xiaoxiao had long noticed that the stools used by Lu Chen and Lu Lin seemed custom-made for their heights.
"Wha..."
Just as Lu Chen was about to answer, a heartrending cry came from next door, startling the two of them.
