Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Who Decides Who’s Worthy

Lu Feng’s eyes sharpened as he glared at Wang Lu.

"Uh... I didn’t see anything." Wang Lu, flustered by Lu Feng’s glare, quickly turned and fled the hospital room.

"?" Fu Xiaoxiao looked up, bewildered, not knowing what had happened.

"It’s nothing." Lu Feng pursed his lips, already at his limit. "Are we done?" ℯℯ𝑙.

"Don’t move, I’m not finished yet!" Fu Xiaoxiao patted his leg, preventing him from moving. She was almost done; she couldn’t let all her efforts go to waste.

"Does it hurt? Let me blow on it." Fu Xiaoxiao thought she had hurt Lu Feng, so she gently blew on the wound. "Just hold on a bit longer! It’ll be over soon."

"..." Lu Feng tightly gripped the bedsheet, but he still couldn’t suppress the intense heat rising within him.

Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t realize it until she finally managed to separate the entire piece of adhesive gauze.

Lu Feng covered his face, not daring to look at Fu Xiaoxiao, but he could feel her tense up for a moment. Just as he was about to speak, a cool sensation spread over the wound.

Fu Xiaoxiao acted as if she hadn’t noticed, focused solely on treating the wound.

She sprinkled Yunnan Baiyao on the wound, then carefully bandaged it with gauze. Fu Xiaoxiao cleared her throat. "Take a rest; I’ll return these to the nurse."

"...Okay." Lu Feng hurriedly pulled the blanket over himself, his dark skin tinged with a hint of red.

Fu Xiaoxiao quickly walked out of the hospital room, and Lu Feng didn’t see her eyes shining brightly.

Arriving at the nurses’ station, Fu Xiaoxiao placed the tray on the counter and was about to leave when Li Lu’s voice called out from behind.

"You’re not good enough for Camp Commander Lu!"

Fu Xiaoxiao turned around to see Li Lu approaching with her arms crossed.

"Camp Commander Lu is young and capable; he deserves a better wife, one who can improve his future prospects, not someone like you, with no vision, unable to help him at all—just a useless village woman." Li Lu glanced at Fu Xiaoxiao dismissively, seeing nothing but her face.

"Are you a high-class pig?" Fu Xiaoxiao looked Li Lu up and down, blinking innocently as she asked.

"What nonsense are you spouting? You’re the pig!" Li Lu shot Fu Xiaoxiao a vicious glare. "People from the countryside are indeed crude."

"Yes, you’re from the city, you’re high-class! You treat people like mating pigs, deciding compatibility. Is marriage decided only by compatibility? Don’t people have choices? Is it all about matching conditions?" Fu Xiaoxiao rolled her eyes at Li Lu, unimpressed. Compatibility, I spit in your face.

"You!" Li Lu was at a loss for words, unable to respond to Fu Xiaoxiao’s retort.

Fu Xiaoxiao smirked coldly, continuing her verbal onslaught.

"Ha, whether I’m good enough for him or not, he knows best; what are you blabbering about here? Do you think your high standing lets you see everything about marriage and fate? Let me put it bluntly, you have time to meddle in others’ love lives, why not focus on finding someone genuinely caring for you? Your sour words only reveal your jealousy, they hold no weight. Besides attacking others with sharp words, what else do you have? You think belittling me elevates you?"

"I do not accept your ’high opinion.’ Please have some respect, and stop interfering. Lu Feng has already married me; whether we’re compatible or not, he’s tied to me. If you continue to pester Lu Feng, I don’t mind letting the commander judge the matter. Are you aware of the crime of sabotaging a military marriage?"

The two faced off for the first time, with Fu Xiaoxiao taking the upper hand, leaving Li Lu pale and speechless.

"Let me add, all of Lu Feng’s achievements were earned through hard work; he’s not the kind to take shortcuts. Do you think he would marry you for your status? That alone proves you don’t understand him at all. Using your so-called city status to pressure me is truly laughable. If he cared, he wouldn’t have married me!" Fu Xiaoxiao brushed past Li Lu, offering a slight, dismissive smile.

"You use status to press me down, but my face alone can crush you. In terms of looks, in terms of demeanor, are we even comparable? Not to mention wisdom, cooking, or character, what can you compare to me? Your status is merely the luck of your birth, brought about by your elders; it has nothing to do with you personally. Everything I have is my own—you think you can use status to press me?"

Once Fu Xiaoxiao finished speaking, she didn’t spare Li Lu another glance and walked away without looking back.

Leaving Li Lu with an unpleasant expression.

Li Lu looked at the tray on the table, ready to fling it away angrily, but as she turned, she froze in place. Behind her stood several nurses at some point, with the head nurse glaring at her hand on the tray.

"Comrade Li Lu, you’re no longer needed here! The hospital is for saving lives, not for your love affairs. If you’re looking for a partner, this is not the place." The head nurse maintained a stern face, having heard Fu Xiaoxiao’s pointed remarks, recalling Li Lu’s request to attend to Lu Feng earlier that day.

It seemed she had ill intentions from the start, deliberately getting close to Lu Feng, aiming to cross a line.

Regardless of her success, even as Minister Li’s niece, she couldn’t be kept.

"What? You’re firing me?" Li Lu couldn’t believe it. "I refuse, I haven’t done anything, how can you fire me?"

"I’ll explain this personally to Minister Li." The head nurse gave her a cold glance before turning to the other curious nurses, her expression darkening. "All of you so idle? Is there no work to be done?"

The nurses, frightened, quickly dispersed and returned to their tasks.

Returning to the room, Fu Xiaoxiao’s mood seemed obviously off, prompting Lu Feng to glance at her. "Did something happen to upset you?"

"That woman named Li Lu has feelings for you." Fu Xiaoxiao stated it as a fact.

Realizing she mentioned Li Lu, Lu Feng sat up straight, his expression serious.

"I have no feelings for her whatsoever." Lu Feng hurried to clarify, fearing a misunderstanding. "The commander did try to matchmake us before, but I didn’t find it suitable. I never said anything misleading to her, and I’ve told her repeatedly that we’re not a match."

Yet Li Lu seemed unable to comprehend his rejection, remaining undeterred despite numerous rejections.

"She just told me I’m not good enough for you." Hearing Lu Feng’s explanation, Fu Xiaoxiao’s demeanor improved.

If Lu Feng hadn’t rejected Li Lu, she would’ve married him long ago, and naturally, Fu Xiaoxiao wouldn’t be in her current position. Since Lu Feng said this, it proved he wasn’t lying.

"I don’t need her approval; you are an incredibly good woman, marrying me is a kind of sacrifice for you." Whether it was Fu Xiaoxiao’s cooking skills or her thoughtfulness, Lu Feng never doubted her; he could see her kindness.

"Don’t worry about what she said; she means nothing to me, you’re my wife, and in our home, you make the decisions." Lu Feng panicked; his inability to comfort others made him worry Fu Xiaoxiao might become upset.

Seeing Lu Feng’s anxious attempts to explain, Fu Xiaoxiao’s temper cooled significantly.

The fault was Li Lu’s, not her boss’s—how could she doubt her own boss!
