Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Lu Lin’s Closeness

"Aunt! Why does he have the right to reject me? With my conditions, am I still not good enough for him?" Liu Jing listened to this advice, but instead got angrier.

"He’s adopted two children, which is no longer a secret. He won’t marry you because he doesn’t want to hold you back. With your temperament, how would you become a stepmother to two kids?" Liu Hongjun said directly.

At the time, he must have been out of his mind to think of introducing Liu Jing to Lu Feng, hoping to strengthen family ties.

But it turned out Lu Feng wasn’t interested in Liu Jing, thinking she wasn’t the kind of woman he was looking for, and he rejected her.

However, Liu Jing was smitten with Lu Feng’s face and insisted on marrying him. Lu Feng rejected Liu Jing several times, but it didn’t dampen Liu Jing’s spirit, instead, she became more determined.

Frustrated, Lu Feng bluntly said Liu Jing wasn’t suitable. He wouldn’t marry her over anyone else.

This really offended Liu Jing, who swore she’d marry someone more accomplished than Lu Feng.

No matter how much Liu Hongjun and his wife advised, it was useless; this girl’s stubbornness couldn’t be changed.

"It’s just being a stepmother, what’s the big deal!" Liu Jing was indifferent; children are not that hard to get along with.

"You... ah." Liu Hongjun couldn’t persuade her and decided to let it go.

He went back to the study to call his brother, hoping he could convince her to return home.

Lu Lin came home from school, and little Lu Chen immediately relayed the news of Fu Xiaoxiao’s injury to Lu Lin.

Lu Lin’s face changed drastically; he ran to Fu Xiaoxiao and saw the bruise on her arm, his expression became very grim.

"I’m fine; don’t listen to Xiao Chen, he’s just exaggerating." Fu Xiaoxiao wanted to prove she was okay; her arm was grabbed by Lu Lin before she could lift it, and he didn’t allow her to move.

"I’ll go find herbal medicine for you!" Lu Lin dropped his backpack and ran toward the back hill, crashing into the returning Lu Feng as he exited the door.

"Xiao Lin, where are you going?" Lu Feng caught Lu Lin to prevent him from falling, seeing his urgent look, he asked.

"Mr. Lu, I’m going to the back hill to pick herbs for Mrs. Fu." Lu Lin replied anxiously.

"Don’t go; it’s getting dark soon, and it’s dangerous. I already applied herbal wine to her hand." Lu Feng rubbed his head, explaining.

"Really, Xiao Lin, don’t go. It looks scary, but I’m really not in much pain now." Fu Xiaoxiao also chimed in, and only then did Lu Lin give up the idea.

Lin Qiu wiped her hands and came out of the kitchen. "The meal is ready."

"Sister Qiu, thank you for the trouble." Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Lin Qiu; she helped her with chores and even cooked the meal.

"Are you saying that again?" Lin Qiu gave Fu Xiaoxiao a glance, forbidding her from saying thanks again.

"Aunt Qiu’s cooking isn’t as good as your mom’s, but you can make do." Lin Qiu said apologetically to Lu Lin and Lu Chen.

"You’re already very kind to help with the cooking." Lu Feng shook his head; it’s already good enough to have someone come help cook.

"I’ll be going now." Lin Qiu took off her apron, ready to leave.

"Don’t! Sister Qiu, you’ve been busy all day; stay and have dinner with us!" Fu Xiaoxiao hurriedly tried to keep her.

"Don’t be polite with me; I didn’t stand on ceremony with you either. I cooked extra using your vegetables to take to Xiao Xue and... Fu Cheng." Lin Qiu gestured for Fu Xiaoxiao to look at the lunchbox she held; after all, she used her stove and vegetables.

"Feel free to use them; don’t be reserved." Lu Feng replied; she’d helped them out so much; taking some food home is no big deal.

"I’ve got enough for myself now! I’ll come again tomorrow; Dragon Beard Candy is in the cabinet, remember to eat it!" Lin Qiu smiled at them, took the food and left the Lu Family, leaving them to gather as a family of four.

Lu Feng went to the kitchen to bring out the dishes; Lu Lin and Lu Chen helped serve the rice, arrange the cutlery, and the family sat at the dining table. Fu Xiaoxiao looked at this scene, and her heart warmed.

Having been with the Lu Family for this long, she felt for the first time she really became part of the family.

Being cared for in this way.

"Mom, can I feed you?" Lu Chen scooped up a spoonful of rice, cautiously bringing it to Fu Xiaoxiao’s mouth.

"Thank you, I can eat by myself." Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled, picking up chopsticks to show them she was perfectly capable of eating on her own.

Thanks to the herbal wine, the wound felt much better. Eating wasn’t a problem.

"Okay!" Having lost the opportunity to feed her, Lu Chen felt a small disappointment.

Fu Xiaoxiao looked at the furthest green vegetables, ready to pick them up, when she saw they’d already been picked up and placed in her bowl.

Fu Xiaoxiao paused and looked up into Lu Feng’s eyes.

"What else would you like to eat?" Lu Feng asked.

"I can pick them myself..." Fu Xiaoxiao subconsciously glanced at the stir-fried eggplant; she hadn’t finished speaking when the eggplant had already ended up in her bowl.

Alright then!

She lost the liberty to pick her own food.

But how to describe this feeling...

A bit happy.

Throughout the meal, whenever Fu Xiaoxiao’s gaze landed on a dish, it promptly found its way into her bowl, very thoughtfully.

Fu Xiaoxiao was served by the three gentlemen, leaving her to only use her chopsticks to eat the rice.

After dinner, Lu Feng, as a father, took the two kids to bathe. Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t have to concern herself with anything; the tableware was cleaned by them, and Lu Feng cared for the children, leaving her to only guide Lu Lin in his homework.

This feeling was one she’d never experienced before, so comforting.

Much more... comforting than Lu Feng giving her money to take care of them as a nanny.

"Mrs. Fu, are you in pain?" Lu Lin asked suddenly as he was doing his homework.

Fu Xiaoxiao saw the worry in his eyes, smiled, and pinched his cheek. Lu Lin, who once hated being touched, now could calmly accept Fu Xiaoxiao’s touch.

Fu Xiaoxiao intended to say it didn’t hurt, but for some reason, she changed her tune. "It hurts a little, but if you blow on it, it’ll be better."

"Then I’ll blow on it for you." Lu Lin finally heard the ’truth’ from Fu Xiaoxiao and, carefully holding her hand, blew gently on it.

The gentle warm breeze blew on the wound, and Fu Xiaoxiao smiled at Lu Lin. "Thank you, it really doesn’t hurt now!"

"If it hurts in the middle of the night, call me, and I’ll come help you." Lu Lin said seriously and earnestly.

"Okay." Fu Xiaoxiao rubbed his head.

"Mrs. Fu, the teacher asked me to write an essay, but I don’t know how." Lu Lin finished his math homework, looked at his language homework, and couldn’t help but look to Fu Xiaoxiao.

"What kind of essay?" Fu Xiaoxiao asked curiously; Lu Lin’s language skills might be limited, but she’d taught him pinyin, so he should be able to write.

"My mother." Lu Lin looked at Fu Xiaoxiao, clutching his homework with both hands.

"Does this make you feel difficult?" Fu Xiaoxiao asked cautiously.

Lu Lin looked at Fu Xiaoxiao, torn in his heart over whether to write about Fu Xiaoxiao or about his mother.

But when it came to his mother, he didn’t know what he could write. Write about how she couldn’t protect him and Xiao Chen? Write about how she gave everything to the uncle? Write about how when dad got hurt, she just cried and even sent the chicken meant for dad to the uncle?

Lu Lin didn’t want to write a single word.
