A Bumpy Road to Power
Chapter 1114 - 1114
This man is Kaine Linden, the director of Silverwood City's Health Bureau.
After receiving Dirk Carter's call, he rushed over urgently.
Originally, there was still a bit of doubt in Hank Newhart's mind.
But the moment he saw Kaine Linden.
The last bit of hope in his heart was instantly extinguished.
Kaine Linden ran up to Dirk Carter, panting heavily, and said: "Dirk... Secretary General Carter, I'm here..."
Then, he immediately noticed the trembling Hank Newhart and realized this kid had caused trouble. Just as he was about to lose his temper, Dirk Carter pointed to the dying patient and said, "Don't talk about anything else, immediately arrange for the patient to be admitted."
Kaine Linden took one look.
Nodded repeatedly.
Hank Newhart didn't dare to slack off either and waved to the doctors who were watching the commotion.
A group of people hurriedly and chaotically took the patient back inside.
Ten minutes later.
In the conference room of the Tumor Hospital.
Dirk Carter sat, while Kaine Linden and Hank Newhart stood tremblingly, hands tied.
It's known that Dirk Carter removed Griffith Payne, the County Committee secretary, right after taking office, so his reputation spread far and wide. At this moment, Kaine Linden and Hank Newhart knew disaster was looming, so how could they dare to be careless?
"Explain to me, give me a reason."
Dirk Carter said lightly.
Kaine Linden quickly nudged Hank Newhart, feigned anger, and said: "You fool, hurry up and talk."
Hank Newhart swallowed hard.
Glanced at Dirk Carter.
He said, "Secretary General Carter, it's not that our hospital doesn't save people... it's... it's because Secretary Frederick Eames won't let us save them..."
"Secretary Eames? Which Secretary Eames?"
Dirk Carter asked in confusion.
Kaine Linden quickly explained, "Secretary Frederick Eames."
Frederick Eames?
This name, Dirk Carter naturally knew.
Frederick Eames is a Silverwood City Committee member, and Riverwood District's Committee Secretary.
And the location of the Tumor Hospital is precisely in Riverwood District.
"Why won't he let you save people?"
Dirk Carter asked.
Hank Newhart paused in silence and said, "I can't really explain the exact reason; maybe you should ask Miss Si. She knows more about it. Secretary General Carter, you know, our hospital is under Riverwood District's jurisdiction, so..."
"No need to explain, first arrange for the rescue; I'll handle other matters. Alright, you two can go now."
Dirk Carter said.
The two felt like they received a great amnesty.
Thanked profusely as they left.
A few minutes later, Dirk Carter arrived at the emergency room door.
Small was waiting anxiously outside with Ajing and a group of people.
Seeing Dirk Carter.
Small immediately approached.
"Thank you, we caused you trouble today."
Dirk Carter smiled.
He said, "Haven't I often troubled you too? No need for formal words, explain to me about the patient inside, what's their connection to Riverwood District's Committee Secretary Frederick Eames?"
Small looked surprised and asked, "You know already?"
Dirk Carter nodded.
Small hesitated for a moment.
He said, "Could I take you somewhere?"
"Sure."
Dirk Carter said.
Small turned and instructed a few words to the others.
Then, he took Dirk Carter and walked out.
Once back in the car, under Small's direction, the car left the highway for a dirt road, winding its way until it stopped in front of a construction site ruin.
"What is this place?"
Dirk Carter asked.
Small sighed deeply and said, "Verdant Court Residence District, an abandoned building, it's been unfinished for four years now. The developer ran away, the government doesn't care, and now it's the home of those people you saw at the hospital."
After saying this.
Small walked through the gap in the rusty iron fence.
Before going in.
Dirk Carter thought this place was merely abandoned.
But what unfolded before him was not at all so.
On the open ground, some bicycles were parked.
Looking around, the open ground was also home to rows of makeshift houses made of iron sheets or planks.
Of course, these so-called houses, in a certain sense, couldn't really be counted as houses, as many were teetering on the edge of collapse.
"Small, you're back, how is Xianmei doing?"
At this moment.
At the door of an iron sheet shack.
A middle-aged woman emerged, carrying a flashlight. Seeing Small, she immediately came up and asked.
Small, shedding his weariness, smiled and said, "Auntie, it's alright; Xianmei is fine, she's already receiving treatment. The doctor said she'll be alright after some rest."
"That's wonderful, that's wonderful, Small, you're a lifesaver; I'll kowtow to you."
After saying this.
The middle-aged woman started to kneel towards Small.
Small quickly supported her.
Glanced at Dirk Carter and said, "Auntie, it's getting late, go and rest. I have a friend over, and we need to discuss something."
"Oh, oh, oh, then I won't disturb you, you carry on, you two carry on."
After saying this.
The middle-aged woman wiped her eyes and returned to the small room.
Small led Dirk Carter, passing through one makeshift room after another, and then pushed open one of the doors, saying, "Come in."
The light inside was somewhat dim.
Just enough to see.
Small apologized slightly, saying, "I haven't been back for days, the battery wasn't charged, and it may be running out soon."
"No problem, I can see."
Dirk Carter said.
Then sat down on a small stool.
Looking around, though the facilities are simple, the room was organized warmly.
Clearly, this should be Small's room.
"Tell me, what's this all about?"
Dirk Carter said.
There were no extra stools, so Small sat on the bed.
Sighed and said, "Where should I start from... Let me think, perhaps from the Riverwood District Committee Building..."
The timeline should be turned back to four years ago.
Four years ago.
All the people here were still villagers of Southgate Village in Highbridge Town, Riverwood District.
Southgate Village isn't big, with just over 70 households, totaling under four hundred people.
The village is situated at the foot of Southgate Mountain, and due to generations of closeness, the villagers had harmonious relations.
Life was quiet, but no one imagined their nightmare would begin with a red-headed document.
An ordinary morning four years ago.
Staff from the district and town arrived at the village, posting an announcement stating the district decided to build a new district committee building in Southgate Village.
It's important to know that Highbridge Town's Southgate Village is about thirty kilometers from the district center.
No one expected that the windfall called "demolition" would land on their heads someday.
Initially, everyone was very excited.
Because according to the demolition announcement, villagers would receive a commodity house based on residential land area, alongside compensation for farmland or forests. The conditions seemed quite favorable.
In the following two months alone, villagers signed the demolition agreements.
For generations of rural people.
Being able to become residents through demolition and receiving houses and money, no one could be luckier.
Here, Dirk Carter asked: "The house given to you is this same development?"
