A Bumpy Road to Power
Chapter 1130 - 1130
3 a.m.
The two were already drunk at a late-night snack bar.
Especially Kane Keating, under Doyle Paxton's shower of compliments, drinking cup after cup, his usual tolerance for alcohol quite mediocre, he was now dizzy, and his speech began to slur.
Sensing the right moment.
Doyle Paxton glanced towards the door.
It was just a blink of an eye.
A lackey came running in, panting heavily.
"Boss, we found it, found it..."
Doyle Paxton frowned and asked, "What did you find?"
"We found out the identity of the woman beside Dirk Carter, look, I even brought a photo..."
The lackey pulled out a photo and presented it to Doyle Paxton.
Before Doyle Paxton could take it.
Kane Keating snatched it away.
It was a picture of Thea Sykes, youthful and beautiful, obviously a top-tier beauty.
"How did you find it?"
Doyle Paxton asked.
The lackey responded, "We were tailing Dirk Carter, but then he went to the cemetery. After we lost him, we went back to find the cemetery manager. Once the cemetery was confirmed, we discovered her identity. This woman is named Thea Sykes."
"What about the address?"
"We found the address too, not far from here, it's a rental place, look, it's on this slip of paper."
The lackey said.
"Alright, alright, I get it. I asked you to check Dirk Carter, and you look into a woman, what good does that do? Useless!"
Doyle Paxton cursed.
At this moment.
Kane Keating raised the photo and quickly interrupted him, saying, "Paxton, you're wrong. It's useful, this photo and address are very useful. We can't teach Dirk Carter a lesson, but can't we teach his woman a lesson? Isn't he trying to mess up my plans? Then I'll mess up his woman, won't I?"
Upon hearing this, Doyle Paxton waved his hands repeatedly.
Said, "Mr. Keating, you can't say that, Dirk Carter is the head of the commission. If we touch his woman, his retaliation will be something a businessman like me can't handle. I won't be able to survive in Silverwood City."
With a slap.
Kane Keating slammed his hand on the table.
Then snatched the slip of paper with the address.
Said, "Paxton, it's not that I look down on you, but what is Dirk Carter, really? In front of my father, he's just a nobody. You're afraid, but I'll handle it. If I don't vent this anger, I'll just be vexed."
"Mr. Keating, it's not that I'm lecturing you, even though your father has an unusual status, here in Silverwood City, you... compared to Dirk Carter, the gap is quite significant, so..."
Before Doyle Paxton could finish his words.
Kane Keating suddenly stood up, shouted, "Nonsense! Why would I be afraid of Dirk Carter? Even if there were ten of him in front of me, I wouldn't flinch. Fine, fine, bunch of cowards, I'll take this photo..."
After saying that.
Kane Keating staggered to his feet.
Doyle Paxton quickly stood up as well, grabbing him, his eyes then darting to a corner surveillance camera, emotionally saying, "Mr. Keating, you can't do this, really you can't, what you're about to do is illegal..."
Drunk.
Kane Keating couldn't be persuaded now.
Pushed Doyle Paxton away and staggered off...
"Boss, should we try to stop Mr. Keating?"
Once Kane Keating had walked some distance, the lackey asked.
Doyle Paxton knocked him on the head.
Angrily said, "Stop? Stop what? Let's just wait for the show. This kid won't be jumping around for many days more..."
After 8 a.m.
Thea Sykes arrived at the rental apartment door, her legs somewhat unsteady.
Twice in one night.
Didn't feel much at the time.
Now the fatigue was overwhelming her.
Most distressing was the area between her legs, which was swollen and rubbed painfully against pants or thighs.
But when she thought about the craziness with Dirk Carter last night.
The pain seemed negligible.
Took out the key and opened the door.
Planning to rest a bit, then pack up to head to school for registration.
But as the door opened.
A strong smell of alcohol hit instantly.
After mingling in society for so long, she still had basic awareness of potential danger.
The rental apartment was a studio.
Very small.
Just a glance could take everything in.
Squinting, she saw a man sleeping soundly on her bed, shocked, she trembled as she dialed the police.
Ten minutes later.
A few officers arrived at the scene.
After Thea explained the situation.
The police rushed in and dragged the soundly sleeping Kane Keating up.
Believe it or not, this kid slept heavily, the officers couldn't wake him.
With no choice, they had to first carry him back to sober him up.
By around 9:30 a.m.
Dirk Carter was chairing a work meeting at the commission.
Midway through the meeting.
The phone rang.
When meetings were on, the phone was usually with Elbert Rivers.
Elbert saw the call was from Manuel Brooks, the captain of Upper Lake Police Precinct's criminal unit, hesitated not a bit, and exited the meeting room with the phone.
About two minutes later.
Elbert Rivers returned.
Approached Dirk Carter, interrupting his speech, whispering a few words in his ear.
Dirk Carter was taken aback.
Asked, "When did this happen?"
Elbert answered, "Just now."
Dirk Carter pondered for a moment.
Said, "Let's temporarily pause today's meeting. I have some important matters to attend to."
After the attendees left.
Dirk Carter frowned, said, "Tell me in detail, what exactly happened?"
Elbert Rivers recounted the entire experience of Thea Sykes.
The incident wasn't complicated at all.
Kane Keating and Thea Sykes were both taken to Upper Lake District Police Precinct.
Around 9 a.m.
Kane Keating woke up.
The precinct then verified his identity.
It was shocking upon checking, this so-called deranged drunk was actually Kane Keating, deputy secretary-general of the municipal government, the notorious Mr. Keating of Silverwood City.
The investigating officers were at a loss, directly reporting to the captain of the criminal unit, Manuel Brooks.
Seeing the case couldn't proceed.
They had to focus on the plaintiff, thus asked Thea Sykes if she could downplay the matter.
Upon hearing it was Kane Keating, Thea realized the situation was serious, asked them to first contact Dirk Carter.
This instantly tied the matter to the commission's secretary.
Manuel Brooks dared not slack off.
Had to call to inquire how to resolve the matter.
Dirk Carter wasn't a fool.
Just yesterday afternoon, Kane Keating had sent people to ambush him.
Then in the wee hours, drunk, he ran off to Thea's place, and they found a candid photo of her at the scene, showing this guy had malintent.
If Thea hadn't stayed at his place the night before, trouble would have ensued.
Repeatedly.
