"You lost."

Dirk Carter turned around, and Alexis Lewis spoke bluntly.

As she said these words, she appeared to be full of vigor; judging by her expression, she seemed completely unfazed by any threats.

"I had thought you might seek help from Secretary Keating, but I wasn't sure. But thinking about it now, it's not surprising, as it is your only means of survival."

Dirk Carter replied calmly.

Alexis Lewis let out a long sigh.

She said, "I underestimated you. You surprise me. Although I don't know how you found out the truth, it's not too late for you to stop now."

"Stop? Aren't those words more suitable for you?"

Dirk Carter said with a smile.

"Do you really have to fight me to the end?"

Alexis Lewis asked.

Dirk Carter waved his hand, saying, "Minister Lewis, you're mistaken. I never intended to fight with you; the 626 case needs truth. What I'm doing is simply seeking the truth."

"Alright, since that's the case, just name your condition then."

"Condition? I don't need any condition!"

Dirk Carter's response was neither humble nor pushy.

Alexis Lewis burst into laughter.

She said, "Now it's just the two of us, and I don't have any recording device on me. Drop your righteous act. Aren't you in this for promotion and profit? If you let go of this matter, I can help you with the positions of Executive Deputy Mayor, Municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary, or even Mayor. Moreover, money, no matter how much you need—five million, ten million, within thirty million—I can agree."

Roxanne Hall spoke energetically.

But Dirk Carter remained unmoved.

He simply stared at Alexis Lewis's face.

As if he were admiring some magical object.

At that moment.

Alexis Lewis seemed to guess something.

She sneered and said, "So, you want both power and wealth, huh? You should have said so earlier to avoid this situation. Alright, like I said, as long as you let go, anything is possible. You can find a place tomorrow, and I'll accompany you."

"Minister Lewis, do you think you're very attractive?"

"Of course, do you not think so?"

Dirk Carter gently shook his head.

He said, "One's facial expression reflects the heart. In my eyes, you're not only ugly but extremely repulsive. I'm sorry; I have no interest in you. The reason I stare at you is not because I covet your outward appearance, but because the positions and wealth that ordinary people can never reach seem so simply attainable from your mouth. You are not fit to be an official, and being associated with someone like you is a disgrace to me."

"You... You bastard! Dirk Carter, you insolent jerk! If you won't listen, don't blame me for being rude. You'll be crying soon!"

Alexis Lewis finally lost her temper.

She stomped her foot.

Fuming, she stormed inside.

Dirk Carter sighed.

He walked up the steps of the building.

At this moment, Athena Meyer was looking at him with worried eyes.

Dirk Carter paused his steps.

He glanced up and down at Athena Meyer.

Murmuring, he said, "You're still easy on the eyes."

"What do you mean?"

Athena Meyer naturally hadn't heard the earlier conversation between the two.

She asked in surprise.

Dirk Carter waved his hand, saying, "Nothing, just casually speaking. I'll call you sometime for some fun."

After speaking.

He walked inside leisurely.

Athena Meyer was stunned, then her face turned red.

She muttered, "In such dire straits, still joking like this. Really shameless."

Though she said so.

Inexplicably, she already felt a bit thrilled inside.

Inside the Public Security Sub-bureau's conference room.

Stanley Keating was sitting upright in the head seat.

Mayor Colter Hall was to his left, and Alexis Lewis was to his right.

In the political arena, hierarchy is very particular.

Dirk Carter's ranking in the Municipal Government is higher than Alexis Lewis, so the position to Stanley Keating's right should belong to Dirk Carter.

This disregard for protocol by Alexis Lewis also displayed her contempt for Dirk Carter.

Dirk Carter didn't mind.

Standing by.

He asked, "Leaders, coming here at midnight, is something the matter?"

With a smack.

Colter Hall slammed his hand on the table.

Angrily, he said, "Dirk Carter, what are you pretending for? You really are reckless. As a Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection Secretary, you actually detained the Executive Deputy Secretary of the State Commission for Discipline Inspection! Who gave you the courage, who gave you the power?"

His words were full of passion.

Clearly, he was trying to show off in front of Stanley Keating.

As soon as he finished.

Alexis Lewis said sarcastically, "Our Secretary General Carter here detained two leaders of the main division level. He is increasingly ignoring everyone, even daring to detain direct leaders..."

"Cough cough..."

At this moment.

Stanley Keating cleared his throat.

Alexis Lewis then dared not continue speaking.

All eyes were on Stanley Keating.

"Comrade Dirk Carter, comrade Alexander Camden is the Executive Deputy Secretary of the State Commission for Discipline Inspection, a state-managed cadre of the department level. What authority do you have to detain him? Even if he committed any illegal acts, is it your place to manage? This is overstepping authority, do you understand? This is violating organizational discipline, do you understand? Do you even respect the Party's rules and regulations?"

Stanley Keating's voice grew louder as he spoke.

By the end.

His finger knuckles had begun tapping directly on the table.

"Yes, yes, the leader's reprimand is right."

Dirk Carter nodded and said.

Seeing Dirk Carter concede in front of Stanley Keating.

The smugness on Alexis Lewis's face grew.

Stanley Keating saw this and raised his voice again, asking, "Since you already acknowledged your mistake, quickly release the person!"

"Sorry, Secretary Keating, I can't release the person, I don't have the authority."

Dirk Carter said.

Stanley Keating was stunned.

Suddenly feeling a bit mentally drained.

He had just admitted fault.

So why couldn't he release him?

Isn't this knowingly violating the law?

If Dirk Carter can't be instructed, it's fine; isn't there Colter Hall?

Harshly, he said, "Comrade Colter Hall, go coordinate and release the person for me. We can discuss Comrade Dirk Carter's issues later."

"Okay, leader, I'll go now."

Colter Hall shot a glare at Dirk Carter.

He stood up.

Before he reached the conference room door.

A slim figure blocked his way.

Colter Hall instinctively wanted to curse out loud.

As his eyes widened, he froze.

Immediately he respectfully shouted, "Secretary Hughes, why are you here?"

This shout of "Secretary Hughes."

Instantly stunned everyone in the conference room.

Looking towards the door.

They saw a middle-aged man in a white shirt standing at the doorway.

The man's build was medium and appeared slightly thin, but his brow was sharp, exuding an air of authority forged from years in officialdom.

This man was Ian Hughes, member of the Novaria State Committee, Standing Committee member, and Secretary of the State Commission for Discipline Inspection.
