A Bumpy Road to Power
Chapter 1152 - 1152
"Alright, I see everyone is here, let's start the meeting directly."
Hadley Thorne glanced over and said.
"Today's regular standing committee meeting has only one agenda item, regarding the implementation of the State Government's use and appointment of technical cadres. I'll first convey the spirit of the State Committee and State Government documents to everyone..."
Next came the standard learning period.
About half an hour passed.
The study session ended.
Hadley Thorne cleared his throat and said, "Alright, that's the meeting for today. If you have anything to bring up, do so now, otherwise, let's adjourn."
Just as he was about to tidy up the documents in front of him,
the new Organization Department Head Jeb Ross suddenly raised his hand and said, "Secretary Thorne, I have something to say."
Jeb Ross took office three days ago.
A day later than Propaganda Department Head Howell Pace.
The city held a grand welcoming ceremony for the two of them.
Dirk Carter attended that night as well.
He had a good impression of this person.
He was quite courteous, and spoke and acted modestly. The two of them even clinked glasses several times that night.
At 49 years old, this person has basically been working in organizational roles throughout his political career, making him a senior veteran in organizational work.
"Oh? What would you like to say, Jeb?"
Hadley Thorne replied.
Jeb Ross picked up a document.
He said, "Regarding the State Government's use and appointment of technical cadres, before coming here, I've studied it thoroughly. After three days in office, I've listened to some opinions and suggestions from colleagues in the Organization Department and feel that Silverwood City is still adhering to outdated principles for appointing people. So, I'd like to propose some opinions at this meeting. Everyone can consider whether it's feasible."
Just after saying this.
Colter Hall, the mayor, nodded and said, "Jeb, you've worked in the organizational system for years; I trust your opinions are certainly objective and fair. Please go ahead. If there's anything wrong, we'll amend it, as democratic centralism suggests that it's not up to one person alone."
Upon hearing the latter part of the sentence,
Dirk Carter had a sudden foreboding feeling.
He instinctively glanced at Lane Quincy diagonally opposite.
Lane Quincy also looked puzzled, completely unaware of what was happening.
"Alright, then I'll say it, don't laugh."
After saying this,
Jeb Ross picked up the folder and said, "First, I'm going to mention one person, a few months ago appointed as Greshire County's county mayor, Barrett Tatum..."
Upon hearing Barrett Tatum's name,
Dirk Carter felt a chill in his heart.
"Greshire County is designated by our city as a key tourism county, with its main development direction centered around tourism. I've studied Barrett Tatum's career and found no relevant learning or experience concerning tourism. Placing such a person in the county mayor position of Greshire County, I think, is inappropriate."
After finishing this lengthy explanation,
Jeb Ross paused.
Hadley Thorne showed a contemplative expression on his face, then paused and said, "Jeb's opinion, I personally think is very pertinent. When the city appointed Barrett Tatum, indeed, we didn't consider so much, we have to admit, it was our oversight."
Colter Hall also nodded slightly,
and said, "Indeed, the county mayor of Greshire County should lead the county's economic development. As Greshire County is a major tourism county, indeed, this position should be filled with someone more knowledgeable about tourism to better serve progress. I agree with Jeb's opinion."
The remarks from the top two leaders,
set the tone for this matter.
The people below them, even without prior notification, could understand the motives of the two.
Deputy Mayor Kendrick Zane, also the previous Organization Department head, said, "In a way, this is also my responsibility. When assessing cadres initially, I didn't think it through thoroughly. Jeb's words are enlightening; it seems our future work needs to be more meticulous."
What is this called?
This is called advancing by retreating.
On the surface, humbly acknowledging one's mistake.
In reality, it's about supporting Jeb Ross strongly.
At this point,
Dirk Carter saw the head of the scheme.
Jeb Ross's so-called temporary proposal seemed likely devised by Hadley Thorne and Colter Hall together.
The purpose was to adjust Barrett Tatum's work.
Lane Quincy, being an experienced politician,
also saw through the subtext.
He paused and said, "Jeb, I agree with your opinion, but currently, there are still issues. The position of the Greshire County Committee Secretary hasn't been determined yet. If we adjust Barrett Tatum's work now, Greshire County would truly be leaderless."
Jeb Ross smiled slightly,
and said, "In regards to that, Secretary Quincy doesn't need to worry; the Organization Department is already working on nominations for the Greshire County Committee Secretary. The list will be out within these couple of days."
This sentence effectively silenced Lane Quincy.
In that moment.
He also had nothing to say.
At this time, Hadley Thorne said, "Jeb, besides the county mayor position in Greshire County, are there others?"
"Yes, I have other representative cases."
After saying this,
Jeb Ross flipped a page of the document in his hand.
He said, "There's also the case of our Upper Lake District Police Precinct Deputy Director, Criminal Investigation Team Captain Manuel Brooks. I've reviewed this comrade's background, and it's average in terms of criminal investigation capabilities. There are two unsolved cases over ten years old that remain unresolved. Personally, I think that the position of Criminal Investigation Team Captain ought to be filled by someone more capable."
As soon as Manuel Brooks' name was mentioned,
all the doubts in Dirk Carter's mind were instantly resolved.
Manuel Brooks was introduced by Lane Quincy for his own use. Recently, they've also grown closer, effectively making him a favored subordinate cultivated by Dirk Carter himself.
Barrett Tatum is one such example, and Manuel Brooks is another.
The strong objective is plain; it's about severing one's limbs.
The reason he provides is quite absurd.
For instance, the two unsolved cases over a decade old include one nearing twenty years now. At the time of occurrence, Manuel Brooks hadn't even graduated from police academy, attributing responsibility to him is nothing short of defamation.
"The third case involves Athena Meyer of our Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection. Everyone knows Athena's ex-husband was Baxter Chadwick, the former County Committee Secretary of Greshire County. Baxter Chadwick's story, I believe, needs no introduction. As a cadre of the Discipline Inspection Commission, with her ex-husband committing such major crimes without her discovering it, do you believe such a comrade is really suitable to work in the Discipline Inspection Commission?"
After discussing Manuel Brooks' case,
Jeb Ross flipped another page of the document in his hand.
This time, his hand had already reached into Dirk Carter's main territory.
