A Bumpy Road to Power
Chapter 1156 - 1156: The Power Shuffle
Jeb Ross shook his head.
Saying, "No, none of them informed me in advance."
"Isn't there a problem there? To put it bluntly, this time the two have teamed up to pressure Dirk Carter. Once these positions open up, someone has to fill them. The position of the Greshire County Chief is undoubtedly the most important. We subordinates shouldn't let the leader initiate, right? We should try to guess the leader's intentions."
"Listening to you, Lane Quincy, is enlightening. Brother, I'm not very familiar with the political situation in Silverwood City. What do you think I should do next?"
Jeb Ross asked.
Lane Quincy paused and said, "I know Secretary Thorne quite well. He's the type who doesn't say anything and makes his subordinates figure things out. If he puts his people in positions like the Greshire County Chief and others, do you think he might look at you differently?"
"Yes, yes, you're right, brother. I was shallow. According to your perspective, who should be placed as the Greshire County Chief?"
Jeb Ross asked eagerly.
Lane Quincy pretended to think for a moment.
Saying, "Secretary Thorne's secretary, Jules Reid, has been with him for years and hasn't found an appropriate opportunity for a transfer. If you could place Jules Reid in this position, it would surely be the right move."
Jeb Ross stroked his chin and thought carefully.
Lane Quincy's suggestion seemed flawless.
As someone close to Dirk Carter, yet recommending Hadley Thorne's person for the position, it was surely for his own benefit.
Thinking about this.
Jeb Ross raised his glass again.
He said, "Lane, brother, no words are needed, they are all in the drink. If you need anything from me in the future, just ask. From now on, we're brothers..."
"Okay, brother, cheers."
Lane Quincy was also very straightforward.
He clinked glasses again with Jeb Ross...
On Tuesday morning.
As soon as Jeb Ross arrived at the office, he ordered his subordinates to start the organizational assessment of Jules Reid.
It's a sign before promotion.
The high-profile manner of doing this.
Frankly, it's to show loyalty to Hadley Thorne.
Around ten o'clock in the morning.
Inside the Mayor's office.
A small meeting between Colter Hall and several deputy mayors just ended.
City Government Secretary Hansel Levin knocked on Colter Hall's office door.
"Is it Secretary Levin? What's the matter?"
Colter Hall looked up and asked.
Hansel Levin walked straight up to Colter Hall, lowered his voice, and said, "Mayor Hall, news from the Organization Department says the assessment of Jules Reid has already started."
"Jules Reid? Secretary Reid?"
Colter Hall asked.
Hansel Levin nodded with an affirmative sound.
Colter Hall then put down the pen in his hand.
Asked, "Is Secretary Thorne preparing to transfer Jules Reid?"
"It seems so."
Hansel Levin said.
Colter Hall paused, asked, "To where?"
"Possibly the Greshire County Chief."
Hansel Levin's words.
Startled Colter Hall, asking, "Greshire County Chief?"
"Yes, news from the Organization Department. Moreover, a few close to Secretary Thorne are in this assessment too, the Public Security System and the Discipline Inspection Commission included."
This sentence is the key point.
Colter Hall suddenly thought of a few positions Jeb Ross mentioned at the Standing Committee.
Taking a deep breath.
Said, "Hadley Thorne wants to pull Dirk Carter's people out and replace them with his own!"
"Currently, the possibility is high, Mayor Hall. You're not in on this plan, are you?"
Hansel Levin asked.
Colter Hall shook his head.
Through gritted teeth, he said, "Hadley Thorne, no wonder he agreed so readily to cooperate with me. Turns out he had hidden plans, suppressing Dirk Carter, then pulling the rug from under me. The entire Silverwood City's power will fall in his hands."
Hansel Levin frowned darkly.
Said, "Leader, Dirk Carter has been in the spotlight lately, but if you think about it, he doesn't control many key positions. Those close to him are just Lane Quincy, a spent force. Factually, the threat to us isn't large. Instead, Secretary Thorne, he is practically in a standoff with us. If Dirk Carter's forces are absorbed by him, going forward, will we have any say in Silverwood City?"
"What do you mean?"
Colter Hall asked.
An ominous expression spread across Hansel Levin's face.
Said, "Since Hadley Thorne has stabbed us in the back, intending to play misdirection, I think our best strategy is to cooperate with Dirk Carter, eliminate Hadley Thorne, gain maximum power in Silverwood City, then turn and deal with Dirk Carter. Isn't it the best of both worlds?"
"Let me give you a more direct example. You're like Hassell Hall from the Three Kingdoms period, Dirk Carter is akin to Quade Summers of the Eastern Wu, while Hadley Thorne is the devil from The Kingdom of Wexland. Only an alliance between Wu and Shu can properly counter Wei and Wexland. The ancients have proven this point long ago."
Colter Hall froze for a moment.
In a challenging tone, he asked, "You're asking me to find Dirk Carter now, to cooperate with him, will he agree?"
Hansel Levin gave a slight smile.
Said, "Of course you don't need to approach Dirk Carter directly. That would lose face for you. I'm saying we can expose some of Hadley Thorne's weaknesses, let Dirk Carter investigate, at that time..."
Hansel Levin didn't continue speaking.
Colter Hall also understood his meaning.
Frowning, he asked, "Tell me, what could deliver a fatal blow to Hadley Thorne?"
Hansel Levin's eyes swiveled.
Leaned closer to Colter Hall, lowering his voice, he said, "Noelle Meyer."
Mentioning this name.
Colter Hall shuddered slightly.
Asked, "If this matter is uncovered, won't it cause too big an uproar? If Hadley Thorne acts desperately, we won't be able to handle it?"
"Haha, not at all, not at all. This matter isn't uncovered by us but by certain insiders revealing it. Besides, when Hadley Thorne is desperate, his target is Dirk Carter, not us. When the clam and crane fight, the fisherman profits. Don't you think that's the ideal outcome?"
Hansel Levin said.
Colter Hall remained uncertain.
Frowning, he said, "Noelle Meyer is indeed quite good. During these years in Silverwood City, whenever there's a problem, I've approached her, and she has generally helped solve it. Besides, if this matter is uncovered, it's a seismic event, and chaos will ensue."
"Leader, don't hesitate anymore. If you continue to hesitate, it will be too late. Once Dirk Carter is crushed, won't it be your turn next?"
Hansel Levin's remark was the ultimate persuasion.
It finally solidified Colter Hall's determination.
At this point, he did not know.
His gamble for power would ultimately transform into a tsunami in Silverwood City.
And would eventually unveil a conspiracy buried for years.
