A Bumpy Road to Power
Chapter 1165 - 1165
The following time became somewhat awkward.
One stood on the steps, another at the bottom, with at least ten meters between them.
After Ryan Rhodes finished his introduction.
Noelle Meyer just looked up at Dirk Carter, without any intention of moving her steps.
Dirk Carter did the same.
Standing in place, not moving an inch.
They just looked at each other like that, for about a minute.
Only then did Noelle Meyer start walking.
Slowly and leisurely.
Under the personal escort of Ryan Rhodes, she walked to the side of Dirk Carter.
This should be highlighted.
It was the side.
Not face to face.
They stood almost shoulder to shoulder, one looking outside, the other inside.
Noelle Meyer stopped and said, "Dirk Carter, I've heard of you, both Astrid and Alexis were taken down by you. It seems you like to make a name for yourself with women..."
These words.
Implied that the two "corrupt officials" Dirk Carter took down were both women.
And now he's going after her.
It inevitably makes people suspicious.
"Look who's talking, Ms. Meyer, haven't you taken down men along the way?"
Dirk Carter sneered.
Noelle Meyer was stunned.
She didn't respond anymore.
Took big strides inside.
As she walked, she said, "Director Rhodes, I'm very busy, please hurry up, or you'll be in trouble."
"Wow, such a strong aura."
Said a female officer standing nearby.
Another female officer beside her said, "If you were that rich, you'd have that aura too."
"That aura isn't just about money; if there's nothing behind you, where does the confidence come from?"
"What do you mean, behind her? Maybe it's beside her… hahaha…"
Though their voices were low.
Every word still reached Dirk Carter's ears.
"Secretary General Carter, a call."
Elbert Rivers suddenly came over.
Handed the phone to Dirk Carter.
Whispered, "It's Secretary Thorne."
What's meant to come will always come.
Dirk Carter raised the phone, calmly saying, "Secretary Thorne..."
He had only just said the title.
When Hadley Thorne roared on the phone, "Dirk Carter, I don't care what you're up to, or what you plan to do, but Noelle Meyer must be released immediately."
"Secretary Thorne…"
Dirk Carter tried to speak.
But Hadley Thorne gave him no chance.
Continued to roar, "Within ten minutes, I want to hear that Noelle Meyer has been released. Whatever you've done before, I won't hold it against you, but you can't touch Noelle Meyer, don't push me."
After this sentence.
The call was hung up.
You could tell Hadley Thorne was truly angry this time.
Elbert Rivers looked on, immediately asking, "Boss, what did Secretary Thorne say?"
"He told me to release her."
Dirk Carter said.
"We didn't arrest her, why tell us to release her?"
"Regardless of that, now it is, this setup from the beginning was meant to drag us down with it."
Dirk Carter mused.
Elbert Rivers paused: "Setup? What setup? Are you saying this case is a setup?"
Dirk Carter nodded, "Whether it's that letter of accusation or the current Hansel Levin case, there's someone behind it, pushing us."
Elbert Rivers frowned.
Asked, "This person is quite cunning, so do we release Noelle Meyer or not?"
Dirk Carter suddenly looked at Elbert Rivers, asking, "Have you ever been to Five Peaks Mountain?"
Such a sudden topic shift.
Elbert Rivers was momentarily unresponsive.
He shook his head, saying, "No… I've never been."
"Want to go check it out?"
"Now?"
Elbert Rivers asked, bewildered.
Dirk Carter nodded, saying, "Yeah, right now, since we're here, wouldn't it be a waste not to see it? Let's go."
After leaving this sentence.
Dirk Carter walked toward the front door.
Elbert Rivers was speechless.
A hot potato in hand, with no idea what to do, and now Dirk Carter suggested going for a trip, quite unexpected.
He snapped out of it.
Hurriedly followed.
"Boss, I understand now, this is about being unchanging amidst changes."
Elbert Rivers said.
Dirk Carter smiled contentedly.
Said, "Remember, when the situation is deadlocked and you don't know what to do, simply jump out of the circle and let the situation continue to evolve. This way, someone will be more anxious than us."
"You mean Ryan Rhodes?"
Elbert Rivers asked.
Dirk Carter smiled slightly.
Said, "Don't be fooled by Ryan Rhodes's constant smile; he's no good either. There must be someone behind him remotely directing. From the case's onset until now, he's intentionally had us lead, then arrested Noelle Meyer without consulting, all to put the blame on me. Now that I'm out, he's the one to panic."
Indeed.
No one expected Dirk Carter to walk away at this critical juncture.
After Noelle Meyer was taken into the interrogation room.
Ryan Rhodes hurriedly returned to his office, locked the door, and took out his phone.
Dialed a number.
Soon.
The call connected.
Ryan Rhodes eagerly said, "Mayor Hall, as per your instructions, we have apprehended Noelle Meyer. Dirk Carter didn't raise any objections."
"Good, remember, no matter what happens, you must put Dirk Carter at the forefront."
Colter Hall said over the phone.
Ryan Rhodes had a smug expression.
Said, "Don't worry Mayor Hall, this is a small task. No matter who asks, I'll just blame Dirk Carter."
"Good, you've handled this beautifully, and I won't forget your efforts."
"You're too kind, Mayor Hall, it's my honor to serve you..."
After a round of flattery.
Ryan Rhodes exhaled deeply.
Returned to the corridor.
Called out to a passing officer, saying, "Inform the criminal investigation team that the interrogation of Noelle Meyer is to be led by the Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection, we shouldn't overstep."
"The people from the Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection have left."
The officer said.
Ryan Rhodes was stunned.
Stiffened in place.
Asked, "When did they leave? Why didn't I know?"
"Just two minutes ago."
"All of them left?"
Ryan Rhodes still couldn't believe it.
The officer nodded, saying, "Yes, they all left. The director named Woolf said the case had been clarified, and what remains is no longer their concern..."
"What do you mean it's not their concern? The victim is the City Government Secretary, isn't this the Commission's job? Those bastards, do they have no shame?"
Ryan Rhodes roared.
As he walked out of the building.
He looked towards the courtyard.
Indeed.
The three cars from the Commission were gone.
You've seen people abandon tasks, but not like this.
Ryan Rhodes's heart jumped to his throat.
