A Bumpy Road to Power
Chapter 1170 - 1170
Dirk Carter saw what was happening.
He immediately held her hand and said, "You can't make the call."
"Why?"
Noelle Meyer asked.
Dirk Carter looked around and said, "It seems your opponent is determined to end your life. Unless we're mistaken, our phones have already been tracked. As soon as you make that call, they'll find us. Not only can we not call, but we need to discard our phones."
After saying that.
Dirk Carter took out his own phone, removed the SIM card, and showed it to Noelle Meyer.
He tossed it into the nearby bushes.
Noelle Meyer, despite being a proud person.
Was caught off guard by the situation; even her closest bodyguard had been bought off, and there's no telling if others might betray her.
"What should we do then? If we can't make calls, are we just waiting here to die?"
Noelle Meyer asked in a somewhat sorrowful tone.
After all, she was a woman.
Fear caused her eyes to brim with tears.
Dirk Carter pondered for a moment.
He turned to Elbert Rivers and said, "Elbert, those people likely have Mountridge County on lockdown. You can move more freely alone. Discard your phone, then find a way to leave Mountridge County. Once you're out, call Secretary Quincy and explain our situation; tell him to find a way to rescue us."
"But you..."
Leaving Dirk Carter, Elbert Rivers seemed unwilling.
Before he could argue.
Dirk Carter waved him off, saying, "I'll be fine. I'm giving you 12 hours. After 12 hours, bring people into Mountridge County. By then, I'll find a way to contact you."
"Alright, leader, stay safe!"
Elbert Rivers gritted his teeth and agreed.
He mingled into the crowd alone.
"What about us?"
Noelle Meyer asked.
Dirk Carter looked at Faye Ullman, whom he was supporting.
He said, "Both of you are already poisoned. I need to find a place to settle down; a moment's delay could be fatal for your female bodyguard."
Noelle Meyer suddenly had an idea.
She said, "I know a place, let's take a cab."
Fortunately, there were many black taxis parked by the roadside.
The two got Faye Ullman into a car.
Noelle Meyer told the driver, "To Stonecross Bridge."
Twenty minutes later.
The car returned to the city.
At this time Dirk Carter noticed that law enforcement officers were already arriving at the main intersections, clearly knowing of their escape.
Luckily, they moved fast.
If they were ten minutes slower.
This car would have been subject to inspection too.
About ten minutes later.
The car stopped on Stonecross Bridge Street.
This is Mountridge County's old district.
A large area of self-built houses.
Led by Noelle Meyer.
The three crossed through several alleys and arrived in front of a four-story house.
She input numbers on the password lock.
With a click, the gate opened.
"Quickly, come in."
Assisting Dirk Carter to bring Faye Ullman inside.
Noelle Meyer stuck her head out to check the alley for followers, shut the door once she was sure they were alone.
They thought it was just an ordinary self-built house.
Inside, the place had its own paradise.
The courtyard was exquisitely designed with rockeries, flowers, even a pavilion; it's clear the owner cared for a refined life.
"Is this yours?"
Dirk Carter asked.
Noelle Meyer nodded.
She said, "Don't ask, we'll talk later, let's first get her inside."
Indeed.
Now wasn't the time for discussing this.
A large floor-to-ceiling glass door was pushed open.
The view revealed a grand living room with luxurious decor, notably spotless; either someone lived here or it was regularly cleaned.
"There should be bedrooms upstairs, I'll go check."
After she finished.
Noelle Meyer hurried upstairs.
A minute later, she shouted from the upper floor, "Dirk Carter, bring her up, there's a bedroom here."
With some effort.
They got Faye Ullman to a bedroom on the second floor.
The room was spacious.
Bedding was in full supply.
Dirk Carter couldn't afford to hesitate; he promptly placed Faye Ullman on the bed.
While on the road, she exhibited noticeable breathing and whimpering, but now she was eerily calm, her breathing faint.
As Dirk Carter prepared to check her pulse.
Suddenly.
Noelle Meyer let out an "ouch."
Then with a thud, she collapsed to the floor.
In a state similar to Faye Ullman.
Her whole body trembled, cold sweat dripped off her forehead.
Perhaps due to severe abdominal pain.
Noelle Meyer curled up on the floor.
She had drunk less water than Faye Ullman, so her symptoms appeared later.
Dirk Carter immediately helped her onto the bed.
Noelle Meyer's pain was intensifying, she was close to writhing on the bed.
But even so.
She was biting down hard, not crying out loud.
Dirk Carter hastily checked her pulse.
The pulse was irregular, very complicated.
After a moment's thought.
He asked, "Miss Meyer, tell me, where exactly is the pain?"
Noelle Meyer gritted her teeth and stammered, "Abdomen, the abdomen hurts terribly."
"Miss Meyer, I apologize, but I need to check under your shirt."
After saying this.
Dirk Carter could no longer care about Noelle Meyer's protests.
He flattened her body, unzipped her jacket.
Preparing to lift her tight-fitting sports T-shirt.
Noelle Meyer immediately held the hem, glared angrily, "What are you doing?"
"I need to check the pain location to determine what poison you have."
"You... are you a doctor? You're... diagnosing me? Pervert! Shameless!"
Amidst the conversation.
Noelle Meyer endured immense pain, reached out to slap Dirk Carter hard across the face.
Slap.
A loud and clear sound.
Then she pointed at Dirk Carter, shouting, "Get out! Get out of this room!"
His face stung intensely.
In ordinary times.
Dirk Carter would have left.
But the situation was different now.
He remembered Kael Quill's warning; without timely treatment, the two women could soon die.
"I'm sorry, Miss Meyer, but I have to check."
After saying this.
Dirk Carter took off his shoes and climbed on the bed.
First, he gathered Noelle Meyer's hands together, holding them with one hand.
Then his legs pinned down her kicking legs.
With his free hand, he flipped her clothing open.
Her abdomen, devoid of excess flesh, displayed a purpling pattern.
At that moment.
Sweat poured from Noelle Meyer's arm and forehead.
Dirk Carter immediately held her mouth.
He said, "Come, stick out your tongue, let me examine the coating."
