Chapter 1282: Apology!
Chapter 1282: Chapter 1282: Apology!
Yin Manqing looked at Mu Yan, wanting to speak but stopping several times, as if it was hard to open her mouth.
Seeing her like this, Mu Yan probed, "You want to ask me about Jing Heng?"
Yin Manqing looked at her serene face, at those clear, limpid eyes that seemed able to see through a person’s heart, and suddenly smiled. "Yeah, I haven’t seen him for a long time. I don’t even know if he’s doing well."
Mu Yan looked at her in surprise. "If you care about him, why don’t you ask him yourself?"
Yin Manqing’s brows twitched slightly. "I..."
"Hm?"
Yin Manqing looked at her pretending-not-to-understand expression and suddenly laughed. "It’s not like you don’t know he doesn’t like me. If I really call him, he definitely won’t pick up."
Mu Yan looked at her in surprise. "Weren’t you the one who hated Jing Heng? How did it turn into him hating you?"
Yin Manqing was stunned for a moment, as if she had thought of something, and didn’t respond.
Mu Yan pressed her lips together, secretly amused. For the first time she found Yin Manqing a bit cute. In fact, she could feel that She wasn’t that She didn’t love Jiang Jingheng, maybe She just didn’t know how to cherish a child.
She said, "Jing Heng is doing pretty well."
"Don’t lie to me." Yin Manqing let out a sigh. "I saw people online exposing that he’s an illegitimate child. He must be really angry right now."
And of course, he hates her even more.
Seeing her guilt-ridden look, Mu Yan inexplicably found it a bit novel. Thinking back to the first time she met her, she’d been the typical overbearing, arrogant evil mother-in-law, irritating in every way. But now that she’d been pulled out of the Jiang Family, Mu Yan suddenly found her much more pleasing to the eye.
Maybe just as she had said, the Jiang Family was a cage that imprisoned her soul and turned her into someone she herself despised.
"Angry, not really. You’re underestimating him." Mu Yan said calmly.
Yin Manqing looked up at her and said uncertainly, "Really?"
"Of course. He’s not a kid anymore, not so fragile that he’d fly into a rage over a single slander from the outside world."
Yin Manqing thought about it, then smiled. "That’s true."
She didn’t know what came to mind, but her face took on a hint of melancholy.
From her expression, Mu Yan saw the disappointment and tentatively asked, "He used to mind it a lot?"
Meeting Mu Yan’s probing gaze, Yin Manqing said, "When he first got to the Jiang Family, no one there liked him. He kept pestering me to go back home. I wouldn’t agree, and he couldn’t fight me. Then one day he got into a fight with some kids and the school called his guardian in. Only then did I find out they had been calling him an illegitimate child, and he couldn’t take it, so he hit them. Because of that, there was even one time he ran away from home over it. He’s a child with a very strong sense of pride."
Mu Yan thought back to that diary she’d seen—just a few sparse lines, but she could see the gloom of his youth between them.
"Since he wasn’t happy in the Jiang Family, why didn’t you take him and leave?"
Yin Manqing looked at Mu Yan in surprise. Sensing that she wasn’t joking, she suddenly said with self-mockery, "Maybe it was for true love, maybe it was for money. I can’t quite remember how I felt back then anymore."
Mu Yan knew her feelings had taken a hit lately and didn’t want to poke at her sore spots. Just then the waiter brought over the coffee and pastries.
The two of them sat facing each other, not saying much.
Mu Yan glanced at the time. It was getting late.
"If you don’t have anything else, I’ll get going first?"
Yin Manqing looked at her and suddenly said, "I’m sorry."
"Hm?" Mu Yan looked at her in surprise. "Why are you apologizing to me?"
"I was too rude to you back then." Yin Manqing said frankly. "Fortunately you two didn’t break up because of me, otherwise, it’d be hard for him to ever meet another girl as good as you in this lifetime."
