Chapter 1568: Chapter 1558: Threat

Seeing how pained She looked, Jiang Jingheng poured a glass of water for Her. "Just eat a little something to pad your stomach first. Once we get back I’ll make you something else."

Mu Yan took a sip of water and laughed. "No need to trouble yourself. A while back I was throwing up no matter what I ate, but it’s been much better lately."

As She spoke, She picked up Her chopsticks and took a bite of the greens.

She didn’t know if it was the oil, but it tasted cloying and greasy to Her.

Jiang Jingheng said nothing. His handsome face was tense, and his gaze slid from Her face down to Her belly. Unfortunately, with the table between them, he couldn’t see anything at all.

"How about..."

"Mm?" Mu Yan lifted Her head to look at Him, Her eyes full of confusion. "What?"

"How about we switch to another restaurant?" Jiang Jingheng said. "If you’re not used to the food, then you’re not. Don’t force yourself."

"That would be way too spoiled." Mu Yan smiled. "Besides, right now I just want to fill my stomach, that’s all."

Jiang Jingheng didn’t insist. He picked up the menu, ordered two more dishes, and told the waiter to go easy on the oil.

Mu Yan chimed in right after, "Add a pickled fish, too."

"Craving sour things?" Jiang Jingheng asked.

Mu Yan smiled slightly. "Yeah, I seem to really love sour stuff lately."

As She spoke, She used Her chopsticks to pick up a piece of pickled radish and put it in Her mouth, chewing with relish, one piece after another. In no time, that little bowl of pickled radish was empty.

"Ease up, or you won’t be able to eat later." Jiang Jingheng couldn’t help saying.

"But I just want to eat it right now." Mu Yan looked at Him with an innocent face.

"Okay, eat." Jiang Jingheng looked at Her with doting eyes.

Before long, the dishes arrived.

The pickled radish whetted Her appetite, and the dishes they’d ordered after that were all light, sour-and-spicy flavors. Mu Yan ate quite a lot.

She didn’t forget about Jiang Jingheng either, constantly picking food and putting it into his bowl.

Jiang Jingheng hadn’t been hungry at first, but watching Her eat so happily, he ended up eating along with Her.

After they finished, Mu Yan started feeling sleepy and just wanted to go to bed. Jiang Jingheng paid the bill and took Her back toward the guesthouse.

The streetlights were dim, and the road wasn’t very even. Just thinking about Her being out alone tonight made Jiang Jingheng feel a lingering fear, and his arm tightened around Her a little.

Noticing that something was off, Mu Yan asked softly, "What’s wrong with you?"

"Tired? I can carry you on my back," Jiang Jingheng offered.

"I’m not tired. I ate so much tonight—if I don’t walk it off I’m definitely going to gain weight." Mu Yan refused outright.

She hadn’t forgotten He was still injured. It hadn’t been that long; He definitely wasn’t fully recovered yet.

"If you could put on a little weight, that’d be a good thing. You’ve gotten so skinny." Jiang Jingheng frowned.

Mu Yan turned Her head to look at Him, scolding lightly, "Isn’t that all because of you? You actually wanted to leave me. Next time you pull something like that, I’ll go on a hunger strike and see if it breaks your heart."

Looking at the way She was accusing Him, Jiang Jingheng’s voice turned a little hoarse. "I never wanted to leave you. It was my fault. I promise I won’t ever do it again."

Seeing Him apologize again, Mu Yan poked His chest. "You’re not allowed to just apologize casually. If you keep throwing apologies around, I’ll ignore you..."

Her final syllable dragged out a little, Her beautiful eyes fixed on Him. When She finally saw the tension in His eyes, Her heart pinched sourly. She turned Her face away and put on a show of being domineering. "One hour. Yeah, just one hour. Let’s see if you’re scared."

Jiang Jingheng let out a low laugh. "Mrs. Jiang has spoken—how would I dare not listen? Forget an hour, if you ignored me for even one minute, I’d be miserable."

"Then you have to mean what you say."

"Mm."

Mu Yan gave Him a bright smile, wanting to bring up Mu Chen, but another yawn took over.

"Come on, let’s go back and sleep."

"Mm." Mu Yan rubbed Her eyes. She was really so sleepy.
