A New Life in Fairy Tail

Chapter 569 - 569: This is a Magical Miracle That Cannot be Replicated

"You haven't realized it yet?" Noah asked softly, watching the old man process the sheer absurdity of the situation.

"Both of your parents suffered from the Ankhseram Curse. You know exactly how the curse operates: the more you love life, the more the curse violently attempts to steal it. Therefore, the moment your parents felt genuine, profound love for one another, the curse detonated at its absolute maximum capacity.

"Under those circumstances, conception should be biologically impossible.

"Furthermore, the First Master explicitly stated that her interaction with Zeref only went as far as a single kiss. There was no physical intimacy beyond that. But during that kiss, Zeref's curse detonated. The sheer concentration of death magic completely stripped the First Master of her life signs, plunging her into a state of suspended animation.

"Zeref, believing he had killed her, brought her body back to the guild and abandoned her on the doorstep. Precht found her and desperately initiated life-saving magical procedures.

"It was during those procedures that Precht detected a secondary, incredibly faint magical signature deep within her comatose body. He found you."

August stared at Noah, his eyes wide in absolute shock.

This was the first time he had ever heard the exact circumstances of his conception. And based on Noah's clinical breakdown... his existence shouldn't be possible.

Having served by Zeref's side for decades, August intimately understood the terrifying absolute zero of the Ankhseram Curse. Anything caught in the blast radius simply ceased to exist. Mavis only survived because she possessed the exact same curse, creating a paradoxical stalemate that left her trapped in a coma instead of turning her to dust.

August also possessed a flawless understanding of human biology. Conception required significantly more intimacy than a single kiss. Biologically, the conditions for his creation had never been met.

"Is that... truly everything? Are you certain no other details were omitted?" August asked, his voice trembling slightly as he struggled to comprehend the sheer impossibility of his own life.

"That's everything," Noah nodded firmly. "Precht discovered your embryonic magical signature. He placed the First Master in the Lacrima crystal and artificially sustained your gestation within her comatose body for ten months before extracting you.

"Then, terrified by your immense, anomalous magical density, he abandoned you. You were lost to history until I deciphered his logs.

"That is exactly why I marvel at the absurdity of magic. Your birth completely defies all laws of biology and logic. Your existence is an unparalleled, unreplicable magical miracle!

"You are the literal manifestation of a miracle born from pure, overwhelming love. You were conceived in the exact fraction of a second when two cursed immortals loved each other so deeply that reality itself shattered.

"That is why I am obsessed with studying magical theory. Because in this world, absolute miracles are real."

Hearing Noah's passionate explanation, August fell completely silent. His mind spun in an overwhelmed daze.

Noah wasn't surprised by the old man's reaction. Learning that your very existence defied reality and biology would put anyone in a stupor. August simply needed time to process the sheer gravity of his miraculous origin.

But as August processed the information, a profound realization settled over him. If his parents' love was so absolute that it bent the laws of reality to force his birth, then his life was an incredibly precious gift. He had to honor that gift. He had to take care of his health, live as long as he could, and spend his remaining years cherishing his mother.

Seeing that August was lost in thought, Noah quietly floated away, heading toward Mavis, who was currently hovering in the freezing air, gasping heavily as the last tendrils of black miasma dissipated.

"First Master, how are you feeling?" Noah asked, floating gently beside her.

"I'm... okay. It's been a while since the curse erupted, so the backlash was a bit severe. I'm just incredibly tired," Mavis panted, wiping cold sweat from her brow.

"Take this. It'll stabilize your Ethernano flow and replenish your stamina," Noah pulled a small vial from his spatial pocket and handed it to her.

Mavis uncorked it and drank it in a single gulp. Almost instantly, the unnatural pallor faded from her cheeks, replaced by a healthy, rosy hue as the potion rapidly restored her energy.

"How is Mother?!" August suddenly appeared beside them, having snapped out of his daze the moment he saw Noah handing her a potion. His eyes were wide with genuine, desperate concern.

"The First Master is fine. The curse detonation just drained her physical stamina. The potion I gave her will have her back to normal in a few minutes," Noah reassured him.

"I'm completely fine, really! Noah's potions are amazing, I already feel so much better. Please don't worry," Mavis smiled, waving her hands dismissively to calm her panicked son.

"Thank goodness... We should return to the ground immediately so you can rest in your room," August insisted, his tone leaving no room for argument.

"Alright, let's go," Mavis agreed.

Noah noted that the complex stealth and containment wards he had woven into Mavis's clothes had automatically rebooted and stabilized. Furthermore, based on their extensive testing, an Ankhseram eruption drastically reduced the probability of a secondary detonation occurring anytime soon. She was perfectly safe to return to the city.

Seeing that both of them were ready, August tapped his staff in the air.

In a flash of light, the three of them materialized back on the ground, standing on the roof of a building overlooking the alleyway they had just vacated.

"Look down there. What's happening?" Mavis pointed toward the alleyway.

A large contingent of Imperial Guard soldiers in pristine uniforms were currently swarming the area, aggressively cordoning off the street and conducting magical sweeps.

"When the First Master's curse triggered, August lost control of his magical aura for a fraction of a second. The resulting shockwave pulverized the cobblestone. The Imperial Guard is likely investigating the epicenter of the anomaly," Noah analyzed. He turned to August. "Is this going to be a problem?"

"None whatsoever. I will handle it," August shook his head calmly.

"Oh, good," Mavis nodded.

As one of the highest-ranking authorities in the Empire, calling off a local investigation would be trivial for him.

"We should return to the inn so you can rest," August urged gently.

"No, wait! I want to see how they handle the investigation! I'm feeling much better now, I promise!" Mavis refused instantly, not even looking at him as she stared intently at the soldiers bustling below.

August let out a long, helpless sigh.

He couldn't exactly physically drag his mother back to her room. If she wanted to watch the investigation, he had no choice but to stand beside her and ensure she was safe.

But as he watched her lean over the edge of the roof, her eyes sparkling with vibrant, unadulterated curiosity, August couldn't help but smile. Despite her vast tactical genius, she had only actually lived a normal life for roughly twenty years. She possessed the endless curiosity and playful spirit of a young woman.

Standing on a rooftop, secretly watching his own soldiers investigate a crater he had accidentally caused while hiding with his mother... it was an incredibly surreal, uniquely amusing experience.

Noah leaned against the roof access door, perfectly content to watch the show.

Eventually, finding no hostile signatures or clues, the Imperial Guard packed up their equipment and marched away.

"Aww, they're leaving. Okay, we can go back now," Mavis sighed, slightly disappointed that the show was over.

"As you wish," August nodded respectfully.

The three of them returned to the inn.

Since Mavis's stamina was still slightly compromised, she and August retreated to their shared room. Noah retired to his own room, cataloged a few more notes on Alvarez stealth theory, and went to sleep.

The next morning, Noah walked down to the inn's lobby.

He found Mavis sitting at a table, looking incredibly energetic and bright-eyed. August was sitting beside her, sipping tea with a contented smile.

"You look entirely too energetic. Did you guys not spend the whole night talking?" Noah asked, raising an eyebrow. He had assumed they would spend hours discussing the missing decades of their lives.

"Mother suffered a curse detonation yesterday. She required absolute, uninterrupted rest," August stated matter-of-factly.

"I know! I wanted to stay up and talk to him, but he literally forced me to go to sleep!" Mavis pouted, crossing her arms and glaring at her son.

"Mother, you explicitly ordered me to prioritize my health and longevity. As your son, it is my duty to ensure you do the exact same," August replied smoothly, his logic completely flawless.

"Ugh... fine. You win this round," Mavis groaned, her pout dissolving into a defeated smile.

She couldn't stay mad at him. To have her son actively worry about her health and enforce a sleep schedule... it felt incredibly grounding. It was exactly the kind of mundane, beautiful familial dynamic she had always wanted.

"Let's grab breakfast. After that, August can continue the grand tour of the capital," Noah suggested, pulling up a chair.

"Let's go!" Mavis cheered, instantly leading the charge out the front door.

August followed closely behind her. Since they had reunited, the Magic King had practically never stopped smiling. His eyes never strayed far from his mother.

Noah smiled softly as he followed them.

Before this mission, August had been a tragic figure. He had lived his entire life in the shadows, serving a father who didn't know him, mourning a mother he thought was dead, and bearing the crushing weight of absolute magical supremacy in silence. If Noah hadn't intervened, August would have died never knowing the warmth of a family.

Bringing them together was undeniably the greatest thing Noah had ever done.

Over the next few days, under August's expert guidance, they thoroughly explored the massive Imperial Capital.

Aside from maintaining their passive perception-filtering wards, they didn't use any magic to speed up the process. They walked everywhere, immersing themselves in the city like normal tourists.

Walking behind them, Noah couldn't help but notice the incredibly humorous dynamic between the two.

Biologically, Mavis was the mother and August was the son. But visually, it looked like a brilliant, wise grandfather patiently escorting his hyperactive, insatiably curious teenage granddaughter. Mavis was constantly pointing at unfamiliar architecture or asking questions about local customs, and August would chuckle warmly, providing incredibly detailed, encyclopedic answers without a hint of annoyance.

Noah wisely kept that observation entirely to himself. While August likely wouldn't care, Mavis would absolutely throw a tantrum if he called her a hyperactive granddaughter.

However, the tour wasn't just a vacation for Noah; it was an unparalleled educational experience.

August's knowledge was utterly encyclopedic. Whenever he answered Mavis's questions, he would effortlessly weave in profound historical, geographical, and magical context. Listening to him speak casually revealed more about the foundational mechanics of Western magic than reading a hundred textbooks.

Once they finished exploring the capital, August and Mavis decided to embark on a grand tour of the Empire. They planned to spend several months visiting all the major cities, allowing Mavis to fully experience the nation her son had spent his life building.

To facilitate the trip, August left a Thought Projection in the capital to permanently handle his administrative duties. His physical body would remain entirely dedicated to escorting his mother.

Noah decided to accompany them.

Beyond the obvious tactical advantage of touring the Empire alongside its highest-ranking general, Noah had a much more selfish motive: he wanted to aggressively mine August's brain for magical theory.

August possessed the ultimate "Copy Magic." He could instantaneously replicate, master, and counter any spell he witnessed. Because of this, his mental database of magical formulas was unimaginably vast—likely even greater than Zeref's.

Having the undisputed Magic King act as his personal tutor was an opportunity Noah absolutely refused to pass up.

Because Noah had facilitated the reunion, August was more than happy to answer Noah's endless stream of highly technical questions during their travels.

"Noah. I have a gift for you," August announced casually on the morning they were preparing to leave the capital.

"A gift?" Noah asked, looking up from his breakfast.

"Open your Archive interface. I am going to transmit a data package," August instructed, opening his own holographic Archive screen.

August had instantly copied Noah's Archive Magic the first time he saw him use it. He had immediately fallen in love with the spell's utility, using it to perfectly organize and catalog his own massive internal database of magical knowledge.

Noah opened his mental interface, and a massive, heavily encrypted data packet instantly began downloading. The file size was absolutely staggering.

"While you download that, I will explain," August smiled warmly. "That packet contains the structural formulas, theoretical mechanics, and casting sequences for a significant portion of my personal magical repertoire. Knowing your passion for arcane theory, I believe you will find it quite enjoyable."

Noah stared at the downloading progress bar, his eyes widening in absolute, unadulterated awe.

"August... I don't just like this gift. This is literally the greatest thing anyone has ever given me!"
