In Chase Childs’s car, Holly Summers watched him drive, completely focused and not saying a word. She hesitated for a moment before searching for a topic of conversation, trying to break the slightly awkward silence.

"President Jennings is going to be a dad. He seems so happy, heh..." She forced a laugh, immediately feeling foolish. ’Who wouldn’t be happy about becoming a father? Was that something I really needed to point out?’

In response, Chase Childs simply turned his head, gave her a blank look, and then refocused his attention on the road ahead.

Holly Summers pouted to herself. On the way to The Tuberose, he hadn’t been very talkative, but he wasn’t as silent as he was now.

’Is he... upset after seeing how lovey-dovey President Quinn and Clara are?’

’But that couldn’t be right. As President Quinn’s assistant, he’s with him all the time. If seeing them together was going to upset him, he’d be upset every day. There’s no reason for him to be suffering over it now, right?’

"In the blink of an eye, President Jennings and Miss Vance’s baby is almost here. And the relationship between Clara and President Quinn is just so sweet and beautiful. It’s really hard for an outsider to break into a world they’ve built for two."

"And who knows, maybe President Quinn and Clara will have a baby soon, too. When that happens, the three of them will form the most stable iron triangle. Their little family of three really won’t have room for anyone else, will it? So..."

She had just gotten to that point when the car, which had been driving smoothly down the main road, suddenly lost control and swerved.

Terrified, Holly Summers quickly grabbed the handle above her door, her face pale with fright.

Chase Childs had been driving perfectly fine, but Holly’s words had still gotten to him.

Holly’s intention was to counsel him, but to his ears, it sounded like she was expressing her own envy for the loving relationship between Seth Quinn and Clara Grant.

’Did her words mean that seeing how in love they were, and thinking about how they’d soon have a child of their own, made her sad?’

Even though he had known all along, hearing her pour her heart out like that still made Chase Childs’s heart ache. That’s why his hand had trembled, causing the car to swerve.

He calmed himself, steadied the car, and brought it back under control.

Only then did Holly Summers let out a breath of relief. She patted her chest and looked at Chase Childs, her heart still pounding. ’My words must have set him off, right? I know counseling someone until they see the light is a good deed, but...’
