A second chance with my billionaire husband
Chapter 2197: Extra Story 3 Yun Miao 5
The two didn’t need to say much; they shared a silent understanding.
Yun Miao smiled and patted Yun Ya’s head: “I have to go, or else your husband might come looking for me to fight.”
Yun Ya tugged at his sleeve, and said proudly, “He wouldn’t dare.”
“Brother, don’t go.”
Yun Miao sighed: “I don’t want to be separated from you either, but you’ve married now and are a mom to two babies. You need to think more about the babies. I’ll visit you whenever I can.”
Yun Ya’s eyes glistened with tears; she’d found herself crying more since she got pregnant, and after giving birth, her emotions were even more fragile. Just thinking about Yun Miao leaving made her want to drop everything and go with him.
Over the years, Yun Miao had become an inseparable part of her life.
“You must take care of yourself, eat on time, sleep on time, don’t overwork, video call me every day…” Yun Ya nagged, and Yun Miao nodded gently, agreeing to everything.
When Yun Miao left, Yun Ya didn’t go to send him off; she couldn’t handle the farewell scene, afraid that she would cry once again.
While she was sitting in the room, dazed, she heard the sound of her child crying loudly outside, causing her heart to clench as she looked nervously toward the door.
A tall man entered, carrying a child in each arm.
The crying of the two children pierced the air, tugging at everyone’s heartstrings.
“Why did you bring them over?” Yun Ya asked, taking one and comforting it. The child seemed to sense the gentle aura from its mother, and the crying gradually stopped, while the other cried even harder.
Yan Song said helplessly, “The kids wanted their mom; what else could I do?”
Yun Ya passed the child she was holding to Yan Song, then took the other one to comfort, but just as this one calmed down, the other started crying again, leaving Yun Ya exhausted, “Oh my ancestors, can you let mommy have a break?”
Yan Song looked at her gently, knowing that only like this would she not be trapped in the sadness of Yun Miao’s departure.
Seeing Yun Ya so worn out, he felt both guilty and pained.
“Stop crying.” Yan Song widened his eyes, and the baby’s cry abruptly stopped, staring at him with wide, shiny eyes.
Yun Ya glared at him: “What if you scared the child?”
——
Yi Peilan wandered around outside Yun Ya’s yard, feeling quite cold this early morning. She tightened her coat and sniffled.
She felt terribly foolish doing this, yet she couldn’t help herself; she just wanted to see him, even just for a moment.
Finally, a tall figure gradually approached, and she immediately hid behind a tree, watching intently.
In such a cold weather, he wore a thin jacket, his strides long and graceful, with an inherent elegance and nobility in every movement, a natural, deep-seated aristocratic aloofness, much like Yun Ya.
She became mesmerized as she thought of the regrettable kiss from yesterday, her heart rate slowly increasing.
As the man was about to walk away, Yi Peilan gathered the courage to rush out: “Hey.”
Upon hearing a sound, the man finally stopped walking and turned around.
The sunlight was strong, overwhelming her vision.
She couldn’t see his face, only the calm and aloofness in his eyes.
As if she were nothing but a stranger to him.
This realization pained her heart, but she was helpless.
“Don’t you remember me?”
The man smiled faintly, warm yet detached, even though standing right before her, giving her a sense of distance.
“Should I remember?”
Such ambiguous words left Yi Peilan stunned, “Yesterday you were drunk, and I…”
A tall young woman with a high ponytail approached Ji Yunmiao and whispered to him, and Ji Yunmiao nodded lightly, saying indifferently to Yi Peilan: “Sorry, Miss, I have matters to attend to. I’ll be off now.”
With those words, he turned and left without another glance.
Before leaving, the tall, spirited young woman looked back at Yi Peilan with such a cold, piercing gaze, like an X-ray exposing all her small thoughts, her heart drummed like a drum, left standing dazed.
Who was that woman, and what was her relationship with Ji Yunmiao?
Does Ji Yunmiao like her?
A mix of emotions stirred within her.
Despondent, she returned to Yi Suchen’s yard, where Yi Suchen was setting up breakfast, and greeted her with a smile asking, “Did you see the person?”
Yi Peilan looked at her in surprise, her cheeks instantly turning red at the gentle and encouraging gaze of Yi Suchen.
“Do you think I can’t see through your little thoughts?” Yi Suchen held her hand, “That child is quite good, as excellent as his sister, but I’m afraid he’s a man who won’t be easily controlled. If you’ve really set your heart on him, it will be very hard for you in the future. I can’t bear that for you.”
“Aunt,” Yi Peilan said resolutely, “I, Yi Peilan, will never give up easily. Anyway, I’ve decided on him for this life.”
Yi Suchen gently patted the back of her hand. “Since that’s the case, Aunt has nothing more to say. The only thing Aunt can help you with is to discreetly find out what Yun Ya thinks.”
Yi Peilan said gratefully, “Thank you, Aunt.”
“Silly child, need you be so polite with Aunt? After all, it’s about your lifelong happiness.”
Yi Suchen thought that Peilan was more than enough in terms of family background, looks, or personal qualities to match Yun Ya’s brother. But she had seen that man from afar yesterday; he and Yun Ya were indeed siblings from the same mother, possessing very distinct personal traits. He was clearly not someone easy to get close to. Peilan wanting to marry him would really be too difficult.
But for Peilan’s sake, she still wanted to try. First and foremost, there was Yun Ya, with whom she had the best relationship.
——
“Young Master, just now that was the young lady from the Yi Family. Yesterday you got drunk in the garden and some things happened between you two. Do you really not remember?”
The car sped away, and inside, Mingyue asked.
Yun Miao looked out the window at the swiftly passing scenery and said faintly, “Should I remember?”
Mingyue should have expected this outcome, but still couldn’t help but ask, “At your age, you should fall in love, or else Miss will worry.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Yun Miao’s icy gaze turned over to her, implying a warning.
Mingyue coughed, quickly lowering her head. “I misspoke. Please, Young Master, punish me.”
After a while, a man’s hard-to-read voice came out, “After I died in my past life, what happened to Younger Brother Feng?”
The topic had shifted too fast, catching Mingyue off guard. She whispered, “You… remember?”
“I dreamed of it.”
Yun Miao glanced at her from the side. “Everything you know, tell me.”
It turns out that when he personally witnessed the rift between Younger Brother Feng and Rong Qiuyi, he was sucked in by a mysterious force, and Feng was rescued by Mingyue. Later, despite all odds, Rong Qiuyi ascended to emperor. Countless people opposed her, and she killed every single person who defied her. Back then, the entire world was a river of blood, and everyone was in fear, while the kingdom in this woman’s hands was teetering on the brink of collapse.
After she ascended the throne, the entire nation hunted Younger Brother Feng. Anyone remotely resembling him was killed without mercy. Feng, along with Mingyue, fled back to Kunlun Mountain, living incognito there.
Later, under Rong Qiuyi’s tyranny, the world fell into chaos. Everywhere, righteous fighters arose to overthrow the witch’s rule. But the royal bloodline had been eradicated by Rong Qiuyi, and to topple the tyranny, a new dynasty had to be established. At this time, rumors spread that the previous emperor had a brother wandering among the common people, whom Rong Qiuyi’s people were secretly hunting but who was still alive. If this person could be found, using the banner of restoring the Great Xia Dynasty’s bloodline, they could justifiably overthrow Rong Qiuyi’s tyranny.
Thus, she stood out with determination. Even when being used by various forces, she harbored no grievances. She had no grander ambitions for the world; she only wanted to avenge her brother. She lay dormant and endured, maneuvering among numerous forces, growing from a kind and gentle soul who would feel guilty for days after stepping on an ant to a deeply scheming leader who would stop at nothing and took countless lives. Those who believed in her grew in number, yet she became ever more solitary.
Mingyue, who had always been by her side, witnessed her transformation.
Finally, when she stood before that woman, looking at the once-arrogant empress still exuding a superior air despite her defeated army and dire circumstances, she could no longer control her hatred and drew her sword.
“You lunatic, who imprisoned me my entire life, harmed my brother, brought ruin and suffering to the people. Why won’t you just die?”
A clap of thunder boomed, and the sword in her hand fell to the ground.
The woman laughed loudly, “Matricide! You’ll be cursed, never to die a good death.”
“Even if I don’t die a good death, I will still kill you with my own hands. My life was given by you, and I return it to you. Let us both go to Hell together.”
The sky that day was red, like the blood covering her entire body.
In the end, she did not die as she wished but lived on, lonely.
She ascended the throne and governed the land well. The people sang her praises, even erecting monuments and writing histories for her.
She was the sovereign, ruling the world, able to summon the wind and rain at her will. Yet, she never knew a single day of joy.
In the dead of night, she dreamed of Deyun Hall during that snowstorm, carefully following her aunt into the palace for the first time. She saw the boy standing under the eaves with clear and curious eyes.
“Brother…” she meekly tugged at his sleeve.
Brother… this is the kingdom you dedicated all your efforts to. From now on, I will protect it for you.
Later, Mingyue told her that her brother hadn’t died and was still alive in another form. For the first time, she felt happy like a child.
“Mingyue says, in another time and space, perhaps you’ve forgotten everything here, but you’re still alive, living an ordinary life, with your family protecting you. That’s good enough for me to feel at ease.”
Even if you no longer remember me, as long as you are well, nothing else matters.
The person who guarded my brother for me, I thank you. If there’s an opportunity, I will surely repay you.
Mingyue sighed helplessly as she watched the person kneeling in the snowy night, burning ritual money while muttering to themselves.
That person is you, fool.
