Chapter 117: Chapter 117: First Glimmer of Light (2)

Seraphina Sterling’s radiant eyes met the Marshal’s scrutinizing gaze, her soft voice carrying a powerful presence.

"You’re threatening me?" A smile remained on the Marshal’s face, but the upward lilt of his tone was filled with menace.

An ordinary student, facing a Marshal like this, would have been scared pale, their thoughts a jumbled mess. But the Marshal’s intimidating presence was nothing compared to Terrence Grant’s—not even in the same league.

’After getting used to Terrence Grant’s fury, facing the Marshal is no pressure at all!’

Seraphina Sterling was perfectly calm. She nodded lightly. "You could put it that way."

’Quite brave!’ The Marshal genuinely admired Seraphina’s performance. ’If it weren’t for this winter camp business, they might have become friends.’

"I admit, you’re smart, and your method is effective. Sanford First High School would never allow news that could damage its reputation to get out. If anyone else were standing here today, they probably would have compromised and let these people attend the winter camp."

The Marshal’s smile widened, and his tone unconsciously grew heavier. "But you’ve made one huge mistake. In devising your strategy, you overlooked a critical piece of information. Because of that, your method has a fatal flaw. TV stations, newspapers... even if they interviewed you, what makes you so sure any of that news would ever get broadcast?"

"Marshal, how could someone from some backwater town possibly know how news broadcasting works? She obviously doesn’t understand anything, yet here she is, acting all smart and spouting nonsense. It’s utterly embarrassing!"

Michelle Galloway, who had been silent until now, was displeased with all the Marshal’s attention being on Seraphina Sterling. She finally seized the opportunity to make her presence known, and naturally, she didn’t forget to belittle Seraphina in the process.

Seraphina Sterling, however, paid Michelle Galloway no mind. "The ’miscalculation’ you mentioned, President, are you referring to the fact that you’re the son of Sanford’s top official?"

The atmosphere on the field changed palpably, growing more somber, more silent.

This time, even the Marshal’s smile seemed to freeze on his face. He hadn’t expected the girl before him to actually know his identity. But that wasn’t what surprised him most. What truly shocked him was that even after learning his identity, her expression remained indifferent, and she continued to threaten him so brazenly. ’What does this mean?’

’It means she isn’t the least bit afraid of who I am! In all of Sanford, the number of people who dare to disregard the Yorke Family can be counted on one hand. He knew every single one of them intimately, but this girl clearly wasn’t one of them. Who in the world is she?’

This was exactly the effect Seraphina Sterling wanted.

The unknown breeds fear.

And fear makes people hesitate, makes them act with more caution.

She had to attend this winter camp.

Seeing the look on the Marshal’s face, she knew she had already won half the battle.

"Even if you use your father’s connections to block the story, to keep it from being broadcast or published, what about the internet? Internet access might still be uncommon in small towns, but in a city the size of Sanford, there must be a fair number of users, right? Plus, the more developed the city, the more people pay attention to what’s online. We have so many people on our side. If every one of us made a post, and then someone gave it a little push from behind the scenes... I wonder what kind of an effect that would produce?"

A threat.

A blatant threat.

Her opponent was the son of Sanford’s top official! If he wanted to crush someone in this city, all it would take was a single word. And this girl dared to threaten him so openly?
