Chapter 316: Chapter 316: This Temper of Mine (4)

"Let go! If you don’t, don’t blame me for getting rough! Seraphina doesn’t know how to ride. If she falls off that horse, the consequences will be unthinkable!" Wyatt Gallagher’s eyes frantically searched the racetrack for her. His chestnut horse was no ordinary steed; it had competed in many international races and its speed was undeniable. After being whipped so violently, it was bound to bolt.

’An experienced rider might be able to bring it under control, but Seraphina Sterling is a complete novice. She can’t handle this! If she falls from a galloping horse, she’ll be seriously injured! Didn’t she say school was starting soon? An injury would throw off her plans! She’s always so meticulous!’

"Since she agreed to the race, she must accept any accidents that happen! I’ll ask you to abide by the rules!" Jay Gable wouldn’t let go. His thoughts were even more vicious. ’Good. Let her fall to her death. If she dies, no one will be able to compete with Shannon.’

Aiden Faulkner also stared, unblinking, at Seraphina Sterling being jostled on horseback. In his mind, he chanted, ’Fall off! Fall off! It’d be best if you fell to your death!’

Seeing Jay Gable’s refusal to stand down, Wyatt Gallagher immediately started fighting him.

The sudden turn of events caught everyone by surprise. The moment the horse bolted, Seraphina Sterling immediately gripped the reins, steadying her body against the violent bucking. Fortunately, she had undergone special training. If it had been any other wealthy heiress who couldn’t ride, she likely would have passed out from the jarring alone.

"Oh, I’m so sorry, that was my mistake earlier! But keep it up! A horse race is only interesting when we’re galloping! Going so slow is no fun at all. I just didn’t want you to lose too badly, that’s all!" Shannon Gable was already on her final lap. Seeing her scheme succeed and watching Seraphina Sterling’s clumsy attempts to stay balanced, the anger simmering in her heart cooled considerably.

Hearing Shannon Gable’s faux-innocent, boastful words, Seraphina Sterling, still struggling atop the chestnut horse, felt her short temper flare. Disregarding the galloping steed, she used one hand to vault off its back, landing squarely on her feet. The instant she hit the ground, the fruit knife in her hand shot forward and embedded itself in Shannon Gable’s mount.

The horse, already at a full gallop, gave a sudden, violent leap. Since Shannon Gable knew Seraphina Sterling couldn’t ride, she hadn’t treated her as a real opponent. Who could have known that this miscalculation—this underestimation—would be the very thing that sent her flying from the saddle.

It all happened in the blink of an eye. As Shannon Gable’s shrill scream pierced the air, Jay Gable was already running. ’He never imagined the person falling from a horse would be his own sister! That the one getting hurt would be his sister!’

Freed from Jay Gable, Wyatt Gallagher also rushed over. "Are you alright?"

Seraphina Sterling gave a faint smile and shook her head. "I’m fine. What could happen to me? The one in trouble is Miss Gable." She glanced at Shannon Gable, who was pale and wailing. "You’re a doctor. Go take a look. It looks like a nasty fall, but it’s probably not a serious injury. You don’t have to worry too much."

As a doctor dedicated to saving lives, once Wyatt Gallagher confirmed Seraphina Sterling was unharmed and got his own emotions in check, he immediately went to examine Shannon Gable’s injuries.

"Seraphina Sterling, if anything happens to my sister, you’ll pay with your life!" Jay Gable’s eyes were bloodshot. ’Shannon has never had so much as a scratch her entire life, and now she’s fallen off a horse! The pain must be killing her!’
