Chapter 335: Chapter 335: Gaining Experience in the Company (7)
Seraphina Sterling felt the corners of her mouth growing stiff. ’Grandpa has completely transformed into a motormouth! A motormouth who won’t stop singing his own praises! And once he gets started, there’s no end to it!’
She was too embarrassed to even look up. She figured that by tomorrow, more than half of Aethelgard’s high society would know she had gotten into Aethelgard University.
Seraphina Sterling was feeling the heat, and Nadia Chapman was no exception.
A cream-white, form-fitting gown outlined her exquisite figure, its open back revealing smooth, fair, and alluring skin. Her black hair was coiled in an updo, and an exquisite diamond necklace hung from her neck, lending her an air of nobility and grace. Tonight, she was the very picture of a high-society belle.
Nadia Chapman entered with Chester Sykes. Chester had been the talk of their circle lately. At a new product launch for a Hale Corporation tech subsidiary, he had released source code developed by his own Keystone Technologies, dealing a devastating blow to the Hale Corporation. To backstab someone so openly—and the Hale Family, no less! How did he dare? Everyone had been waiting to see his downfall.
Unexpectedly, Justin Hale made no move. Chester Sykes also disappeared from the public eye, leaving everyone baffled. Now, to everyone’s surprise, Chester was here at the auction, and with a stunning woman on his arm. It seemed he was doing quite well for himself! Apparently, the departure of his R&D team hadn’t impacted him much at all.
"Who’s that woman? She’s gorgeous."
"And her figure is amazing!"
"She doesn’t look very old. Probably a young lady from one of the families in our circle? But if I’d ever seen a beauty like her before, how could I possibly forget?"
...
The business magnates in attendance were focused on Chester Sykes, the head of Keystone Technologies. The younger heirs who had yet to join their family companies, however, had their eyes fixed on the beauty by his side. The low murmurs of discussion began to spread, as a handsome man and a beautiful woman always make for an attractive pair.
While they appeared to be a handsome couple to outsiders, the reality was... quite different.
"Why am I wasting my time on something so pointless?" Chester groused impatiently. "I haven’t even finished my work for today."
"You can’t just bury your head in research all day," Nadia said, her smile strained. "Your brain will turn to mush! You should cherish a good opportunity to relax like this!"
"I don’t need to relax!" Chester shot back, looking ready to breathe fire. "I need time! Besides, it’s my brain; I’ll know if it needs a break! You’re just wasting my time! I’m going back. If you want to wander around, you can stay here by yourself!"
Nadia grabbed Chester as he tried to leave. "You are staying put! Do you think I *want* to be here? If I could’ve found another date on short notice, do you think I would’ve dragged you along? I’m here on a mission, too!"
As she spoke, Nadia’s eyes landed on an elegant figure in the distance. She lowered her voice and whispered, "Listen to me. In a minute, all you have to do is keep your mouth shut and stay quiet. Got it? And whatever you do, don’t cause any trouble!"
"Well, well, if it isn’t Nadia Chapman." A sneering voice cut in. "Aren’t you a waitress at the Stelluna Hotel? What are you doing here instead of serving tables? This is a high-class auction. Is this really a place for someone like you, who spends her life waiting on others?"
From a distance, Fiona Chapman had thought the woman looked familiar, but she never imagined it was actually Nadia! ’Why should a mere waitress receive so many compliments? Why should she be the focus of so many admiring gazes?’ Jealousy flared up inside Fiona, and she deliberately raised her voice. The people who had just been speculating about Nadia’s identity were utterly shocked.
