Chapter 345: Chapter 345: An Old Bull Eats Tender Grass (Part 1)

The Appraisal Convention came to a successful conclusion. This year’s event was truly spectacular. Not only was an inkstone sold for an astronomical price, but so was a set of jewelry. Furthermore, the prices for all the other antiques were much higher than in previous years! It’s safe to say the organizers raked in a hefty profit, gaining both fame and fortune.

Old Man Hale acquired the Snow Hall Inkstone, and a mysterious bidder purchased a set of jade jewelry. And then there was the revelation that Nadia Chapman was the general manager of Keystone Technologies! Not only that, she was its owner! To have achieved so much at such a young age, without even graduating from university! It was simply astonishing.

Nadia Chapman’s high-profile debut made some people take notice. She was already such a capable earner; whichever family managed to marry her in the future would consider it a tremendous boon! It could be said that Nadia had single-handedly brought Keystone Technologies back into the high-society circuit, making the company the center of attention once more!

As Nadia Chapman became the talk of the town and the object of everyone’s praise, the person least happy about it was Fiona Chapman. ’All this time, Nadia has just been a pathetic little creature in my eyes, a speck of dust I could ignore! There’s no way she can compare to me, the *true* Miss Chapman! Nadia’s place is to look up to me; she isn’t even qualified to be mentioned in the same breath!’

’But who would have known that overnight, the whole of high society would learn that the Chapman family had a stock market prodigy who, at such a young age, already owned and managed her own company! Overnight, everything changed. Nadia has completely stolen my spotlight!’

’Even Dad, who has always doted on me, started taking Nadia seriously. This morning, he even gave Nadia a credit card and told her to buy whatever she wanted. As a daughter of the Chapman family, she couldn’t be seen dressing so shabbily! Something like that would have been absolutely impossible before!’

’This morning alone, I’ve gotten ten phone calls. Out of those ten, eight were from people asking about Nadia! The other two were asking me to invite Nadia to their gatherings! Before, nobody even knew who Nadia was, let alone brought her up! But now, the invitations are coming through me!’

Fiona Chapman was seething with anger. She had planned to go downstairs and give Nadia a piece of her mind to vent her frustration, but to her surprise, she found Nadia was already getting ready to go out.

"Nadia, stop right there! Dinner’s almost ready, where do you think you’re going? Don’t think that just because a few people praised you, you’re something special! Have you forgotten all your manners? A lot of the time, compliments are just a courtesy. They don’t mean anything! That’s how it works in high society! I’ve been hearing empty praise like that my whole life, so there’s really no need for you to take it to heart!"

"You’re right, I haven’t taken it to heart. But it certainly seems like *you* have," Nadia replied with a dazzling smile. The brilliance of her expression made the anger in Fiona’s heart flare up again.

"Besides, I don’t think I’ve eaten a meal with you and your family in a very, very long time. If you want to talk about etiquette, why bring it up now instead of all those other times? You can keep your ’family dinner’ rule for yourselves. It’s your rule, not mine." With that, Nadia ignored Fiona, who was clearly just looking for a fight.

"Nadia, Fiona is your younger sister. She might be immature, but you’re the older one; shouldn’t you know better? Our family hasn’t eaten together in a long time, and the kitchen has been preparing this dinner since noon. It’s almost ready, and you’re leaving now? As a daughter, do you really think that’s the right thing to do? You’re not a child anymore. Why are you acting so inconsiderate?"

Noelle Patterson adopted the posture of a stern mother. While she was admonishing Nadia, every word seemed perfectly reasonable on the surface, making it impossible for anyone to find fault with what she was saying.
