Chapter 494: Chapter 494: A Crushing Defeat in the Short-Term Showdown (Part 2)
Nadia Chapman had been holed up here getting some rest for the past few days, handling almost all her business online. "Should I go back to work tomorrow? I bet if I don’t get back to the office soon, Chester Sykes is going to lose his mind!"
"Have you figured out how to deal with Leo Fenton? He’ll probably keep pestering you, especially after Fenton Bank took a hit like that!" Seraphina Sterling quickly straightened herself up; this afternoon, she was going to enjoy the fruits of her victory. ’I can’t wait to see the look on Preston Patterson’s face. I’ll just consider this me teaching the Patterson Family a lesson on Nadia’s behalf!’
"Don’t worry, I can handle him! It’s just Leo Fenton! So it’s settled, then. This fake manager will report for duty tomorrow! Chester Sykes is already busy enough with just R&D. I’m worried that if I don’t go in, the company will fall into chaos again. That guy Chester... he’s a genius at R&D, but when it comes to management, he’s hopeless!" In her heart, Nadia Chapman already considered Keystone Technologies her home. She wanted to watch this home of hers grow stronger and more perfect.
"You seem to know Chester Sykes pretty well, huh? Planning on starting an office romance? I’m an open-minded boss. As long as it doesn’t affect your work, I won’t object!" Seraphina Sterling said with a look of utter sincerity, though her bright, beautiful eyes twinkled mischievously.
"Oh, please! What are you even thinking? The only thing in his eyes is his R&D!" Nadia Chapman rolled her eyes in exasperation. ’Is twenty-three that old? Why is Seraphina always trying to push me into a relationship?’
"Alright, no more jokes. Lately, I’ve noticed something strange with Chapman Jewelers’ stock price. Someone might be making a move against the Chapman Group. What are your thoughts on it?" Seeing that Nadia truly had no interest in Chester Sykes, Seraphina Sterling dropped the subject. ’I guess the time just isn’t right! Nadia hasn’t had her romantic awakening yet.’
"What do I think? I have no feelings whatsoever about the Chapman Group. I have absolutely nothing to do with that company, and I don’t care if it collapses or goes bankrupt!" Nadia Chapman answered without a moment’s hesitation, speaking her mind directly.
"But no matter how you look at it, you have inheritance rights to the company! If the Chapman Group continues to do well, that’ll be a considerable fortune when you inherit it!" Seraphina Sterling reminded her.
"Even if the company were doing well, the inheritance would never fall to me. How could Noelle Patterson and Fiona Chapman ever allow that to happen? Seraphina, I really don’t have any interest in that company. You have enough on your plate already, so don’t worry about these little things of mine! Rest assured, I’ll handle it myself!" Nadia Chapman smiled. ’Having a friend like Seraphina is probably the greatest thing I’ve gotten out of life so far.’
"Alright, then. If you change your mind down the road, just let me know. Even though you’ve left the Chapman Family, you should still teach those idiots a lesson. Make them learn not to constantly scheme against you!" Seraphina Sterling couldn’t help but add. ’I’ll deal with the Fenton Family, but the Chapman Family... that’s Nadia’s family. If I get involved, it won’t look good for Nadia. After all, it’s her home.’
"You just get some rest and stop worrying. Look, I haven’t done a thing, and the Chapman Group is already having problems. This must be divine retribution! Now hurry up and get to campus, it’s getting late. If I’m in trouble, I promise I’ll ask for help!" Nadia Chapman said, pushing Seraphina toward the door. No one knew what she was truly thinking.
Seraphina Sterling left The Retreat feeling a bit resigned. She didn’t believe in things like divine retribution. ’But for this to happen so coincidentally... could someone already be teaching the Chapman Family a lesson on Nadia’s behalf? Or is it just a pure coincidence?’ Seraphina didn’t believe in mystical things like coincidences. She believed that every coincidence had a human hand behind it.
「Five in the afternoon.」
The conference room was packed to the gills, filled entirely with members of the stock market club. Word of the bet between Director Patterson and Seraphina Sterling had already spread throughout the entire club, and even many of the seniors had made time to come witness the outcome.
