Above the Mage!
Chapter 115 - 114: [Acquire Magic Pet]
Chapter 115: Chapter 114: [Acquire Magic Pet]
Leaving the academy committee, Mage Lael pointed in two directions for Gaode and said, "Room 30 in District 1 is over there, and the academy dining hall is this way. Tidy up your things and hurry to get some food.
"Eat well. You’ll need your strength tomorrow," he added, giving Gaode’s shoulder a meaningful pat before they parted ways.
Since the matter was settled, he had no interest in escorting Gaode any further.
Gaode took it in stride, knowing that his relationship with Mage Lael was merely transactional. He quietly walked back to the Guest Reception Building, grabbed his luggage, and headed in the direction of District 1 that Mage Lael had pointed out. Passing through the well-organized academy roads and buildings, Gaode easily found Room 30 in District 1.
Cyrus Magic Academy was impressively built like a fully functioning small city. Almost every intersection featured clear, distinct signs, and every building was marked with a corresponding plaque. With the help of his map, finding his dormitory was no difficult task as long as he wasn’t completely hopeless with directions.
When he finally saw "District 1, Number 30," Gaode understood why Commissioner Rachel had been so certain he would like this place. District 1 was actually a residential area of detached houses built around a small lake. At a glance, there were about thirty or forty uniformly styled, two-story wooden cabins arranged picturesquely along the lakeshore.
Gaode turned his key and unlocked the door to Number 30. A faint scent of pine washed over him as he carried his luggage over the threshold and stepped inside.
Wherever he looked, the room was fully furnished. The quality was just right—not overly luxurious, yet undeniably tasteful. On the wooden table in the center of the entrance hall sat a neatly folded stack of items.
Stepping closer, Gaode saw two sets of clothing bearing the Cyrus Magic Academy emblem. The main color was dark blue, and the tops were designed as robes, stretching past the knees with loose cuffs. The bottoms were tight-fitting pants, a practical design that ensured flexibility and ease of movement. There were also two belts provided.
The only thing that puzzled Gaode was how these clothes perfectly matched his size when no one had ever taken his measurements. However, he didn’t dwell on it, for there was something else far more worthy of scrutiny.
Next to the two sets of student uniforms lay an assortment of strange tools. These included a pickaxe, ten pairs of linen gloves, a small shovel, and a woven back basket. In addition, in the empty space on the wooden table, a few rows of shimmering, interlaced characters made of light—left behind by Magic—caught his attention:
"Number 30, District 1. Equipped with a minor cleaning Magic Array, a minor soundproofing Barrier, a minor alarm Barrier, and a minor temperature control Barrier. The monthly maintenance fee is 5 silver coins. Please pay promptly at the Academy Logistics Department.
"Remember to bring all tools when reporting to Kuli Cliff tomorrow.
"Welcome to Cyrus Magic Academy! We hope you have a pleasant stay!
"Logistics Department."
Gaode wondered, "What kind of admission task requires a pickaxe, gloves, a shovel, and a back basket?"
Staring at the "warm reminder" left by the Logistics Department, the doubts accumulating in Gaode’s heart finally reached their peak. If it weren’t for the two finely crafted academy uniforms sitting on the side, he would have thought he had joined a mining camp instead of the Cyrus Magic Academy.
He thought, "Whatever. I’ll find out what’s going on tomorrow."
Putting down his luggage, he took a walk around the house, carefully inspecting the place where he would be living for a long time. The first floor featured a spacious living room, a washroom, a laundry room, a small kitchen, a well-lit dining area, and a workshop. The second floor had a bedroom, a sitting room, a sunroom, a Meditation Room, and a large balcony.
Standing on the balcony and looking out, he had a panoramic view of the sparkling lake. Occasionally, water birds would skim across the surface, leaving a trail of ripples in their wake. Taking a deep breath, Gaode’s heart swelled with emotion. This was vastly superior to Number 237 Camond, which he had rented in Bremen City for twenty gold coins a year.
The best part was that this place was free!
Returning to the second-floor bedroom, Gaode slid his luggage under the bed before finally taking out the Magic Formula and Magic Potion he had been keeping close to his chest. He couldn’t wait to open the Magic Formula.
Although Gaode was still a long way from becoming a 1st Ring Mage, Mage Lael’s mention of a "Rare Magic Formula" filled him with intense curiosity about the 1st Ring Magic Formula in his hands. What met his eyes was still a Magic Model composed of numerous lines and diagrams, but it had a staggering thirty-seven nodes.
Gaode briefly glossed over the Magic Model, shifting his gaze to the Magic’s description below.
[Acquire Magic Pet] (Curse Magic, 1st Ring):
You summon and acquire a Magic Pet of the Same Tier as 1st Ring to serve you.
You may choose one of the following animal families for your acquired Magic Pet: bat, cat, crab, frog, toad, hawk, lizard, octopus, owl, Poisonous Snake, fish, piranha, rat, raven, seahorse, spider, or weasel.
The Magic Pet will appear in an unoccupied space within your Casting Distance.
Your Magic Pet can act independently, but it will always obey your commands.
When your Magic Pet is within 100 feet of you, you can communicate with it telepathically.
Additionally, as an action, you can shift your vision and hearing to your Magic Pet’s senses. During this time, you gain the benefits of any special senses the Magic Pet possesses, while your own body becomes effectively deaf and blind.
As an action, you can temporarily dismiss your Magic Pet, sending it into a pocket Plane to await your next summons.
While temporarily dismissed, you can use an action to summon it to any unoccupied space within 30 feet.
Alternatively, you can choose to dismiss it permanently. Once you make this choice, you cannot Cast this Magic to acquire a new Magic Pet for one month of Nature time.
When the Magic Pet dies, it disappears automatically and leaves no physical remains. After its death, you must wait a month of Nature time before you can Cast this Magic again to acquire a new Magic Pet.
You cannot have more than one Magic Pet at a time through this Magic.
Gaode’s knowledge of Magic was still far from adequate, but just by reading the effects, he could tell that Mage Lael wasn’t lying when he called it a "Rare Magic Formula."
The most direct comparison was that, as another 1st Ring Curse Magic, the Hidden Mist Skill on the Hidden Mist Fang only produced a cloud of fog 20 feet high and 20 feet in radius that lasted for one minute. In contrast, Acquire Magic Pet summoned a permanent Magic Pet of the Same Tier as 1st Ring, one that could interact with the Caster in multiple ways.
How could they even be compared? They simply couldn’t!
Rare items were called Rare for a very good reason!
