Above the Mage!
Chapter 151 - 150: Magic Training
Chapter 151: Chapter 150: Magic Training
"It is..." Falon nodded mechanically, agreeing out loud on pure instinct.
But inwardly, he roared, "It’s not like this at all!"
The disbelief in his widened eyes completely betrayed his true feelings. As a Second-Ring Mage, even he couldn’t manipulate Mage’s Hand for such precise metal component assembly. How could a mere Mage Apprentice pull it off? And so quickly, too!
Of course, Falon wasn’t the only one. The surrounding students also cast shocked gazes at Gaode. No one expected that the ordinary-looking Gaode could master Mage’s Hand to such an extent!
After being upgraded by Wind Spirit Moon Shadow, [Mage’s Hand+] could perform complex actions just like the Caster’s own two hands. Disassembly and assembly were naturally not an issue. The only difficulty was that the assembly work, which normally required two hands, now had to be completed using a single Mage’s Hand. This made Gaode feel slightly strained, to the point that a thin layer of sweat broke out on his forehead.
Focused entirely on the task at hand, he didn’t notice that Falon had completed the assembly using his actual physical hands. Thus, he didn’t realize anything was amiss. He merely assumed Falon was shocked that his control over Mage’s Hand was on par with the instructor’s.
In truth, he had hesitated slightly just a moment ago. But he ultimately decided there was no need to deliberately keep a low profile—at least not here. A tall tree catches the most wind, but by the same token, if one doesn’t show a little talent, they will miss out on many opportunities.
Gaode’s only gripe was that once he entered a state of intense focus, he tended to lose track of his surroundings. Because of this, even though he had initially planned to slow down and perform at least a bit worse than Instructor Falon... once he truly got into the zone, he forgot all about holding back. In the end, he seemed to have finished a bit too quickly.
The atmosphere turned a bit awkward—at least for Falon.
In his original plan, he was supposed to randomly select a student to attempt the very same task he had just done. Then, after the student exhausted all their Energy and ultimately failed, he would smile and say, "See? This is what I mean by the application, Control Power, and understanding of Magic. It makes the exact same Magic act completely differently in the hands of different Mages."
What was this called? This was leading by example. This was comparative teaching.
But now... the student he picked performed far better than he did. How was he supposed to continue the lesson?! Though, from another perspective, this also validated his claim that application, Control Power, and understanding could make the exact same Magic act completely differently. But evidently, Falon’s skin wasn’t thick enough to use himself as a negative example for the class. Should he pick another student to serve as the bad example?
In the end, Falon wasn’t shameless enough to act on that sudden intrusive thought.
"Good. You did very well," he praised Gaode, biting the bullet but speaking with genuine sincerity. Then, pretending nothing out of the ordinary had happened, he stiffly transitioned back to the course material.
"How do we improve our application of Magic? First, you must master sufficient theoretical knowledge, including Element characteristics, Magic principles, and so on.
"Next comes repetitive practice to gradually grasp the essence and details of the Magic, such as its flight trajectory, speed, and the like. Cast more Magic. Once you’ve cast enough times, it is guaranteed to improve your familiarity and Control Power over the Magic. Finally, you must clarify your own direction and conduct targeted practice...
"For example, if you want to improve the accuracy of a specific Magic, you can set up several moving targets and practice attacking them with it. Over time, your accuracy will naturally improve. Of course, while practice is useful, it requires a great deal of time and Energy...
"There are definitely techniques, experiences, and certain patterns that can help save you some effort. The focus of this lesson is to impart those techniques, experiences, and patterns to you. However, whether or not you can actually put them into practice will ultimately depend on your own comprehension and hard work."
After a solid half-hour of theoretical knowledge, Falon finally paused. He activated the Trial Puppet in the field. The Trial Puppet immediately began to move back, forth, left, and right at an extremely fast, irregular pace.
"By activating the Trial Puppet’s rapid evasion mode, you can practice improving the accuracy of certain Magic, such as [Flaming Arrow], [Magic Energy Burst], and the like."
As he spoke, Instructor Falon extended his right hand, his fingertips trembling slightly.
"Magic Energy Burst!" The next moment, he gave a light shout. An intense Energy Beam instantly erupted from his fingertips, shooting with pinpoint accuracy at the Trial Puppet, which was in the midst of its Quick Movement.
Struck by the sudden Energy Beam, the Trial Puppet instantly stopped moving. However, aside from a slight white scorch mark, there was no other obvious sign of damage on its body. Clearly, it was quite durable.
At that same time, text suddenly flashed across the Trial Puppet’s digital-screen-like eyes.
The left eye displayed: "Category: Force Field Damage."
The right eye displayed: "Attack Power: 10 grams of Magic Crystal equivalent."
"This is how the Trial Puppet is used. First, it accommodates your needs by simulating the movement patterns of enemies you might encounter in battle. Second, it records the type and power of the Magic damage it receives.
"Grams of Magic Crystal equivalent is a unit set by Mages to measure the destructive power of Magic. It represents the Energy released by the explosion of one gram of a standard Magic Crystal," Instructor Falon explained to the class. "However, we more commonly abbreviate it as ’degrees.’
"Magic Energy Burst has always been universally recognized as the highest-damaging Trick in terms of pure power. Its strength is 10 degrees.
"Of course, the destructive capability of a Magic cannot be judged solely by its raw attack power. For instance, when facing plant-type Earth Vein Creatures, a Flaming Arrow with a power of only 8 degrees will deal more substantial damage than a 10-degree Magic Energy Burst.
"Therefore, knowing which Magic is most appropriate to Cast in various situations is a field of study in itself. This is also something I will teach you in future lessons.
"Getting back to the main topic... You all should know that Magic—at least Low-Ring Magic—mostly has a projectile trajectory. It can only deal damage if it hits.
"And there are actually many Earth Vein Creatures capable of Quick Movement. Even Mages can increase their own movement speed through Magic.
"Under these premises, ensuring that your Magic accurately hits a target employing Quick Movement is obviously very important.
"If you want to precisely hit a fast-moving target like I just did, you must engage in constant practice. You need to master the Casting speed and flight speed of each Magic, and reach a point of muscle memory where you can instantly judge the distance between yourself and the target...
"There are no shortcuts to this. It can only be achieved through continuous practice and accumulation.
"I know many of you are already struggling just to pay the tuition fees, but I still highly recommend that you frequently visit the Magic Experiment Field to practice your Magic.
"It is necessary. Moreover... if you don’t do this, it’s very likely that you won’t pass the final course assessment," Falon reminded them kindly.
"Alright, that’s it for today. Class dismissed!"
Leaving those words behind, Instructor Falon formally ended the lesson.
