Abyssal Awakening

Chapter 1147: Using Oth’Zeruun’s Authority

  • Next Chapter

The Major Idol known as Oth’Zeruun was dead.

That much Alyss was sure about.

However, with his passing, the surrounding memories and energy grew distorted. With no master to command such powers, they simply drifted, looking for a new master.

In the midst of this, a single strand of energy hovered towards Alyss. The authority of concealment.

Well... To call it an authority was both right yet wrong.

Eldritch authorities weren’t quite like normal Authorities that Alice could get from drinking blood.

When Alice gains an authority, she can use it immediately by supplementing the ’verification’ through adaptation and mimicry.

But instinctively, Alyss could tell this authority was going to be different.

No, scratch that, it WAS different.

The moment Alyss came into contact with it, I felt like an empty container. One waiting to be filled and made use of.

Yet more than that, this container was most definitely connected to her heart.

There was a more than zero chance that absorbing everything may cause her to change differently. Yet not taking the authority was also risky since someone could swipe it while she wasn’t looking.

And that ’someone’ was the several greedy Outers who noticed the death of Oth’Zeruun.

They hovered around the edges of the current area, not daring to step forward.

Whoever killed Oth’Zeruun could just as easily kill them if they’re not happy.

Alternatively, if they get lucky, they might be able to partake in this banquet of a fallen Outer. Either way, they simply hovered near the edges with greedy eyes.

Exhaling softly, Alyss weighed up her options.

She couldn’t consume the full Authority and everything that Oth’Zeruun left behind.

This energy had to be put to use before something bad happened. Not only that, but there was also the issue of their world being so exposed to the Outers.

This Alyss formed a plan in her mind. Something that would funnel every single speck of energy left over by Oth’Zeruun in order to buy them a modicum of time.

A grand act of concealment that’ll hide the planet they live on.

Though this may be the first time she tried something like this, it was the best option available to Alyss.

’How did twinnie do something like this?’ Alyss pursed her lips. She didn’t know how Alice could just think up of new spells on the fly.

Her mind simply worked differently.

In other words, or rather in her own words, she was an ape trying to use fire for the first time.

She raised her hand and commanded the energy to flow towards her.

*Slither...Slither... Slither...

Alyss’s face twisted with displeasure seeing how slow things were going.

At this pace, even if she absorbed energy 24/7, it’ll still take her around 2 years to completely absorb everything. And that’s considering nothing wrong happens.

What if the Others watching her right now grew some backbone and attacked her instead?

Pursing her lips, Alyss decided to try something. Even if it wasn’t perfect, it’s much better than simply letting their world be exposed to the gaze of Gods.

With a Major Idols authority, most minor gods would no longer be involved. Hell, maybe even majors might be decieved.

Regardless, she must take action now.

Alyss recalled Alice’s figure while she was casting her skills. The trade offs she would do for certain performance boosts.

’First things first, I don’t need to care about cost. No matter how much it costs, I’ll use everything.’

With this energy simply floating around in the cosmic sea, she may as well put it all to use since she doubted she’ll get the chance to use everything else.

The Outer God’s energy floated aimlessly. Without a master to drive off the others, this was simply a banquet waiting to be enjoyed.

Next was efficiency. There wasn’t much need to care about this as well since she only wanted it to conceal their world.

There’s no need to think about follow up abilities.

Which now left performance.

Naturally, this was going to be cranked up to max.

’Visualise the skill...’ Alyss mumbled inwardly.

How should she best conceal this world? She needed the aura and visuals hidden from the gaze of the Outers.

To make them ignore it as though it was another empty void in this cosmic sea.

But to avoid complications in the future, she also needed it to repel the enemy to a certain degree.

Like how a person with a fear of heights would subconsciously avoid tall ledges when walking, she wanted other Outers to subconsciously avoid this world.

The key was to conceal without bringing focus to its absence.

To make them overlook this place in its entirety.

Little by little, a skill was forming in Alyss’s mind. A single use skill that used up everything available to her.

Slowly, she turned her gaze towards the shimmering barrier of gold. She couldn’t help but wonder whether or not the blessing could destroy this cover the moment she applied it.

Would the barrier behave itself or labour?

’Tch! I’m thinking too hard.’ Alyss pursed her lips.

Don’t think, just do it.

There was no point in overcomplicating things unnecessarily. She was going to brute force this anyways.

Taking a deep breath, Alyss’s shadow began to twitch as several elongated limbs reached out and grasped the floating energy.

She’ll construct the veil to hide this world!

###

Alice tilted her head back. With the death of Oth’Zeruun, the situation had calmed down.

Alyss went off to deal with the Outer, their connection remains. With her Physical body given back to her, Alice looked down at the bubbling mass of flesh that was once the unnamed god.

She had to admit that it was rather... Strange.

Their connection was fleeting at best. A conversation here, a conversation there.

They were enemies who handled knew each other.

On the other hand, if this has been Nyer, Alice realised she would’ve been angry.

She would’ve damnded him to fight more. To fight longer, better, faster than anyone else.

She wanted him to struggle and thrash. To fight to the bitter end.

That was the kind of ending she wanted for him. It was a responsibility towards those that he wronged.

But Alice doubted such a thing would come about so easily.

He would no doubt have plans after plans for the situation that came after his death. He would no doubt find ways to win the war if he lost the battle.

Having heard these thoughts, Cayla pursed her lips but said nothing more.

Her understanding of Nyer was heavily outdated.

It was evident from how he treated her and... What he’s done all this time.

If Velouria saw all of this, she would no doubt be upset.

Not at Nyer himself for the atrocities be commited but rather at herself. At her own helplessness in helping a comrade.

"What happened?" Allura limped over with Karya helping her walk.

Alice glanced back.

"A Major Idol descended. We had a talk, a fight and I won. Alyss is probably dealing with some post fight work as I can tell from our connection. He’s gone for good." Alice reported as Allura reached out and patted her head.

A somewhat bitter smile appeared on Allura’s face.

She knew Alice had grown a lot. She was no longer the weak little girl she once knew.

Of course... Seeing Alice close her eyes and enjoy the head pat was no different.

Though stronger, she was still a kid in her eyes.

The thing that caused this bitter smile was the understanding that she won’t be able to help Alice with future threats.

Her power was limited and time was quickly running out.

Like today... There was nothing else she could do unless she was willing to put her life on the line.

*Ripple~

As space distorted near them, Alice immediately snapped her eyes open as three weapons hovered near her.

Killing intent seeped out momentarily before Alice withdrew it.

An annoying one had appeared.

"Wow~ I had noticed the descent of a Major One and rushed over here as soon as I could." Through the ripple in space, Zal-Ka’Rith stepped out with a smile and his hands behind his back.

"For someone who rushed over here, you seem awfully composed. Sounds to me like you don’t care whether or not I died." Alice clicked her tongue.

"Hardly. You are someone surrounded by Fate’s designs, how can you fall to a lowly Major Idol?" He laughed, clapping his hands.

"I rushed here to enjoy the fight. To see how you would kill a Major Idol. Yet I’m still too late." His voice was filled with regret.

"Cut the bullshit*t and just tell me why you’re here. You won’t show up without a good reason."

Facing Alice’s stare, Zal-Ka’Rith simply waved his fingers and a chair appeared behind him.

Sitting down, he faced her with a serious expression.

"I come with a warning. Right now, there are three urgent actions you must take."

He held up the first finger.

"You must converge in the depths of the Abyss. Though your allies are strong, a greater foe looms over them."

He held up the second finger.

"You must deal with the anchor that allows the enemy to act. Cut off their arms and legs and the battle will naturally flow in your favour"

And finally, he held up the third finger.

By this point, Alice understood that he was omitting certain information on purpose.

Saying too much would cause retribution.

"And finally, you must investigate the tower no matter what. Do not dismiss what you see, go past the dead end and see the world for yourself."
