Abyssal Awakening

Chapter 1149: Alyss’s Mistake

  • Next Chapter

"What do you mean?" Alice frowned, wanting an explanation for what Alyss had just done.

Based on Zal-Ka’Rith’s reaction, it was something he felt deeply yet Alice didn’t notice a thing.

Shaking his head, Zal-Ka’Rith turned around.

"Your sister took advantage of the remnants of a Major Idol. Energy and Authority that would’ve been scattered and shared amongst the vultures that waited for the predator to leave.

"Instead of letting it go to waste or rather, be fuel for others to get stronger, she used herself as a funnel. To redirect that energy through her own body with a new purpose. And that purpose is to construct a veil around this planet. To prevent the gaze of other Major Idols and Minor Idols." He spread his arms apart.

"A praise worthy thought. However..." He pursed his lips.

"She has also just prevented everyone from leaving. Their connections, while not severed, cannot go back. How do I put it... Trapped mice with leashes in a case. The leashes reach beyond but they cannot leave." He turned around.

"I wonder... If they realise the true meaning behind this moment, would they behave themselves? When the laws that would expel them from this place are obstructed by her gesture of goodwill."

By this point, Alice understood what Zal-Ka’Rith was talking about and a single word escaped her lips.

"Sh*t."

"And there you have it. While there are three tasks that you need to do, perhaps a fourth may be required now. A calamity of Outer Gods now free of the rules and bindings." Zal-Ka’Rith shrugged his shoulders.

In the first place, this wasn’t an issue he caused directly or indirectly. It was entirely Alyss’s choice to do so.

Those who cause the mess must clean it up. That too is a part of the story belonging to these twins.

"Alright, alright I get it. Just do whatever you want. I’ll sort this out." Alice pinched the bridge of her nose.

Nodding his head, Zal-Ka’Rith was about to step out when he paused.

"One more word of warning. This one is purely out of good will." He smiled but Alice didn’t believe that for a moment.

"The Sun is growing wary. The growth of the young prodigy had far surpassed his expectations. Not only does she command faith and trust, but even the Apostles are favouring her in their own way.

"A God that cannot sit comfortably in his seat will no doubt seek to remove the element of bother.

"And as for the Moon... When the Sun sets, is it not the duty of the Moon to take its place? Once that happens, the opportunity that Isolde had longed for will finally arrive before her. Let’s hope she doesn’t miss that chance yes?" He chuckled.

And finally, The Eclipse.

"The star of chaos. The one who desires blood and truth in battle. She is where she desires. Chaos flows like water and she dances upon its surface. However... No, that woman is probably, surprisingly, the most stable out of the three." There was a strange look on his face as he said this.

The Sun was tormented by jealousy and sloth while the Moon was enraptured by obsession.

But the Eclipse? She alone was simply enjoying herself to the fullest. She wasn’t demanding blood sacrifices. In fact, she hadn’t demanded that in a long time.

She wasn’t causing wars either. There was no need to when the world was in such chaos.

Therefore, out of the three Gods, she alone posed the lease trouble.

Which is rather ironic considering her nature.

Yet with the world in so much chaos, could she be considered to be normal?

Having left these words, Zal-Ka’Rith didn’t dawdle any further and left.

Just as he did, Alice felt the connection between herself and Alyss tighten momentarily as golden chains appeared around her wrist.

’Welcome back.’ Alice forced a smile, not wanting to say anything just yet.

’Thank you. Heh, I think I did a rather fine job myself. Perhaps I might even be called a genius. Of course nothing to boast about in front of someone like yourself but I can probably hold my head up high against the proud geniuses of this world.’ Alyss flipped her hair proudly.

It was difficult but she pulled it off.

The veil had been created with a mixture of different Sigil abilities that Alice had obtained in the past.

Right now, as long as a Great One wasn’t involved, their world would be obscured.

’Uhuh. Right.’ Alice folded her arms with a nod while Cayla looked away, pretending as if this wasn’t happening right now.

For situations like this, she was simply a bystander.

’Sounding a little unenthusiastic. Do you know how hard I worked on this?’ Alyss pouted, feeling wronged. Usually it’ll be her bullying Alice but now their roles had reversed.

In fact, she might even go as far as to say Alice was upset she missed out on this opportunity.

But knowing her twin, that shouldn’t be the case.

’Oh I know. I know you worked hard to hide this world using Oth’Zeruun’s authority, even going as far as to ensure others subconsciously avoid it.’ Alice nodded, confusing Alyss.

How did Alice know?

Was her senses that refined that even something like this wasn’t beyond her notice?

Or was it because she technically modified Velouria’s barrier? Was that why Alice understood?

’A certain toilet paper Outer God told me everything.’ Alice clarified as more questions appeared in Alyss’s mind.

’Toilet paper? Since when did- Ahhhhh it was Zal-Ka’Rith.’ Alyss realised mid sentence.

The only one Alice would give that kind of nickname to was a certain man dubbed Parchment now downgraded to Toilet paper.

[A little harsh considering the help he gave.] Cayla chuckled.

She wasn’t one to defend Outers but she had to admit, Zal-Ka’Rith was proving to be an annoying but useful ally. One that they should ideally keep at arms length as he has no qualms on switching sides whenever he felt like it so long as it benefitted him.

’I know. But I also know his perverted ass watching everything unfold right now.’ Alice narrowed her eyes.

Shaking her head, she turned to Alyss.

It was rare that she got to scold her twin so she wanted to make the most out of this moment.

’So you made a barrier right?’ Alice smiled.

’Not really. If I made a physical barrier, they would’ve collided with it. Plus Velouria’s barrier is already in the way.’ Alyss shook her head.

’A veil is also a type of barrier. Just not a physical one that blocks attacks or people trying to enter.’ Alice shook her head.

’Right...’ Alyss furrowed her brows, feeling as though something was wrong but couldn’t pinpoint it.

’From what I heard, you made it so that the barrier is sustained from Oth’Zeruun’s power right? Have you resolved the issue of it running out?’

’Not really. But it’s in a dormant state right now. The most it’ll do is keep Outers from realising the planet was here. It serves no actual defensive properties other than perception manipulation.’ Alyss explained like a proud student.

While she had given up entirely on efficiency, the function of her barrier wasn’t complex enough to instantly drain Oth’Zeruun’s energy. It’s passively generating a field to distort perception and prevent Outers from entering.

’Good good. So you thought about that too. So you dealt with the durability and duration, you seem to have a good sense of its purpose and effect. You even made sure it doesn’t interfere with Velouria’s barrier which is good.’ Alice nodded.

’Hehe...’ Alyss scratched her cheeks shyly. Praise felt good.

Especially coming from her twin who was exceptionally good at casting while she was a barbarian who only know how to punch and kick when things got tough.

’Have you established a filter function though?’

Alice’s next question made her tilt her head in confusion.

Filter function?

’Seeing your confusion you must not know. It’s fine, I’ll explain since Velouria’s barrier actually has it built in to some extent. I’m sure if you were close to the barrier, you would’ve noticed it.’ Alice nodded with a smile.

Alyss began to sweat, feeling a bit of pressure.

’You see, with so many Outers roaming around beyond our world, we naturally want to stop them from entering. Ideally, none of them can break through in the first place, right?’ Alice asked with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.

Alyss nodded hesitantly.

’But reality is very different. They managed to sneak in even with Velouria’s barrier and left a mark in our world. Naturally that means there are a bunch of Outer Gods roaming around secretly right?’

’. . .’

’Right?’ Alice leaned forward.

Alyss swallowed her saliva nervously and nodded.

’So naturally, having made a barrier like this, you would’ve made it one way right? That it only functions from the outside in and not both ways. Otherwise the people inside would be stuck, wouldn’t you agree? Oh by people I mean the Outers roaming around.’

’Sh*t...’

Alyss had the exact same reaction as Alice when she heard the news and froze.

With the Outers stuck in their world with no way out, it didn’t take a genius to realise what might happen.

She had essentially given them freedom to do whatever they wanted.

Seeing Alyss’s face twist from realising what she had done, Alice chuckled and ended the bullying.

’But~ it’s fine though. It’s not like we can’t tweak it right? A quick modification after a bit of rest should be doable.’ Alice reassured but Alyss’s face became awkward.

’I erm... I didn’t want the Outers to someone bypass the barrier and get the energy through abnormal situations so I erm... linked its stability with Velouria’s barrier. Their functions don’t collide but if one turns off...’ Alyss nervously spoke as Alice’s smile became forced.

Sweat rolled down her face.

’Sorry...’ Alyss’s voice was quiet as Alice tilted her head back and looked at the sky.

There was only one thought in her mind as she couldn’t wait to sit down and have a long drink after this.

’Life is hard...’
