Chapter 490: Chapter 18: Starting Today, This Place Is Taken Over by the Alliance Country
That night.
Dark clouds loomed overhead, obscuring the moonlight like a heavy curtain.
The black convoy belonging to the negotiation team followed several black off-road vehicles. They passed through the iron wire fence outside the stone bunker and arrived at the Red River Army’s Mountain City encampment.
Warlord soldiers stood guard with their guns, patrolling back and forth in squads of three to five.
Searchlights swept down from the top of the stone bunker, their glaring beams blinding to the eyes, causing the Superpower Captains who had just stepped out of the vehicles to squint.
“Hahaha.
“The Chief is indeed generous! At tonight’s banquet, I, Old Ma, will definitely have to drink a few more glasses!
“Come, come, come, fill me up.”
Distant noises echoed from the night, coming from the brightly lit stone bunker.
Not only were the Superpower Commanders of the Red River Army present, but the leaders of the White Bone Army and the Rock Mountain Army were also there.
Soldiers hurried about, occasionally carrying various fruits into the stone building. The fragrant scent of roasted Exotic Beast Meat drifted on the wind, wafting into everyone’s noses.
“It seems all the leaders have arrived.”
Kuicheng, who was leading the way, smiled as he stepped out of the off-road vehicle, followed by several Elite Level leaders. He looked remarkably similar to Kui Wu—both were powerfully built, their muscles bulging visibly beneath their camouflage uniforms.
Turning to Lu Chao, he gestured, “Special Commissioner Chen, please.”
Nodding, Lu Chao maintained his usual expression. Dressed in a black trench coat and leather shoes, he walked toward the stone building.
Yan Zhengfeng, Ji Lanhua, and the other security assistants followed suit one by one, leaving only two people outside to watch the vehicles.
“Old Ma, it seems your hand has indeed healed well, considering how loud you’re talking.”
“Hmph. What, do you have a problem with it?”
“Not at all. I was just thinking that since you’re so tough, it looks like you should be the leader of the White Bone Army.”
The voices from inside the stone building grew clearer, laced with a hint of bickering and sarcasm.
As Lu Chao and his group stepped inside, the lights flashed, and the entire scene came into sharp focus.
A large sand table was covered with animal skins. Enormous emerald green lotus leaves served as platters for Exotic Beast Meat and fruits, scattered across the table. Porcelain bowls filled to the brim with red wine gave off a fragrant aroma.
Nearly ten warlord commanders sat on both sides of the long table. Some wore large coats with bandages wrapped underneath, while others leaned on crutches or had their arms in slings. Most of them were the very people he had taught a lesson to half a month ago.
“Special Commissioner Chen is here,” Kuicheng deliberately announced, his eyes flashing as if giving a reminder.
The bickering abruptly ceased, and the warlord commanders turned their gazes toward the entrance.
Sitting at the head of the table, Lu Weilong, draped in a military-green general’s coat, raised his eyes at the announcement. He first cast a glance at Chen Junhao—who was sitting in his seat, silently smoking without a single movement, looking completely unbothered—before finally turning his attention to Lu Chao and the others.
“Special Commissioner Chen, you’ve finally arrived.”
His tone sounded somewhat hearty. He was exceptionally burly, and even while seated, he resembled a small mountain, blocking out a considerable amount of light.
The expressions of the warlord commanders shifted. The looks they shot at Lu Chao varied—some held apprehension, while others concealed deep-seated malice.
“Come, take a seat.
“Special Commissioner Chen, please don’t mind our barbaric meals. After all, our fortress is located in the wilderness, so we only have this beast meat and fruits,” Lu Weilong said with a smile, appearing surprisingly welcoming.
This complete reversal from his usual attitude struck all the warlord commanders as odd, but none dared to utter a word in response.
Lu Chao casually walked over to an empty seat on the other side. His gaze didn’t fall on Brother Hao; instead, he looked at the figure sitting opposite him.
It was a robust Caucasian man in a brown general’s coat.
“Who is he?” he asked in confusion.
Yan Zhengfeng and the others behind him were slightly taken aback. Looking at the Caucasian commander, they wondered if Special Commissioner Chen hadn’t already seen his file.
“Heh, it seems Special Commissioner Chen is unaware.” Lu Weilong’s gaze sharpened, and then he explained with a smile, “This is the new leader of the Rock Mountain Army, Ao’Er.
“He is also the current fourth leader of our Fortress Mountain City.”
As he spoke, Ao’Er locked eyes with Lu Chao and nodded as a form of greeting.
“Is that so?” Lu Chao’s eyes lit up with sudden realization, as if he had only just found out.
Without saying another word, he sat down in the guest seat opposite Lu Weilong.
Behind him, Yan Zhengfeng and the others either scanned the stone hall’s environment with vigilant eyes or held the documents and tablets prepared for the negotiation. Everyone tacitly refrained from interrupting, leaving him to communicate directly with Lu Weilong.
After a few simple pleasantries.
“Inviting Special Commissioner Chen over today is actually no big deal,” Lu Weilong took the initiative to steer the conversation, holding up two fingers. “There are mainly two things.
“The first is the negotiation, and the second is regarding the cause of Xiao’s death.”
The atmosphere froze as he shifted his gaze to Chen Junhao, who was seated in the first position on the left. “Third Brother, you made a military pledge back then, saying you would get to the bottom of this matter within half a month.
“Now, isn’t it time to give our brothers an explanation?”
As his words fell, the warlord commanders temporarily set aside their malice toward Lu Chao and looked at Chen Junhao. Their eyes held a mix of amusement and curiosity, or perhaps a genuine expectation to finally avenge Xiao Chen.
“Sorry, Big Brother.” Unexpectedly, Chen Junhao took a drag from his cigarette and gently shook his head. “I am powerless regarding this matter.”
GASP!
His straightforward answer stunned the crowd, quickly followed by a wave of commotion.
Whether they were sincere or not, all the warlord commanders of the White Bone Army shot him unfriendly looks, while the commanders of the Rock Mountain Army and the Red River Army wore expressions of eager spectators.
“Third Leader, what did you promise us back then?”
“Exactly! The brothers waited for you for half a month, and this is the only answer you have?”
“Chen Junhao, aren’t you going a little overboard?”
Voices of condemnation rang out, as if they had entirely forgotten that he was the one who had helped them out of the siege back then.
Without giving any response, Chen Junhao simply exhaled a puff of smoke, still sitting in his seat, looking completely unbothered.
