Chapter 426: Chapter 218: Lawrence, Reduced to the Goblins’...
Caroline followed behind Cres, her eyes scanning his back.
’Our collaboration had already fallen apart. He was the one who betrayed us and ruined all my plans, yet here he is, telling me news from the Royal Capital. What is he really after?’
Caroline was no naive little girl. She couldn’t believe he was acting purely out of the goodness of his heart.
She recalled the moment just before, when he had grabbed her daughter Unis’s wrist...
’A forward gesture like that had never happened during our past collaborations.’
’Could it be that he went to all this trouble, causing the fall of the Lawrence family, just to possess my daughter and me?’
Caroline’s brow furrowed. Assessing the situation, she knew that in their current predicament, if he truly made the demand, she couldn’t refuse. Nor would she.
’It wouldn’t be much different from the past, anyway. Just swapping one man for another.’
’But as a Necromancer, would his motives truly be that simple?’
Caroline didn’t know the answer, but she had no way to retreat. Following their disappearance, a commotion seemed to stir at the city gate...
Small military units even started breaking away from the main front line, obviously searching for something.
All this proved Cres hadn’t been lying. If she stayed in Lania City, a harsh sentence would be all that awaited her.
Caroline knew better than anyone the things she had done. If she were put on trial, the only outcome would be death.
They departed from the flank of the battlefield. The Goblins along the way cleared a path for them, then quickly covered their tracks to prevent any pursuers from finding them.
Clearly, the collaboration between Cres and the Goblins was still ongoing.
Caroline silently clenched her fists. She was furious, but she didn’t let it show.
Soon, Cres led the mother and daughter far from Lania City, arriving at a secluded wasteland.
"I’ve brought them back for you."
Cres suddenly stopped walking and spoke to the empty air.
Just as Caroline and Unis were looking on in confusion, a Goblin standing about 1.5 meters tall, its silver-white skin flecked with hints of gold, suddenly emerged from behind an earthen slope.
"You?!"
Caroline’s pupils constricted. As a former "partner" in collaboration, she of course recognized this Quasi-Golden Level Goblin who had been pulling the strings from behind the scenes.
She glanced at Cres. It was obvious the two of them had colluded to bring her and her daughter to this place.
"It has been a while, esteemed Madam Caroline."
A Quasi-Golden Level Goblin possessed extremely high intelligence and linguistic ability, having almost completely mastered human language.
It gave a slight, polite bow and greeted Caroline, "If not for your help, our clan could never have grown to what it is today... I might not even have been born. In a way, you could be considered the ’mother’ of many of us Goblins."
"What do you want?"
Caroline wasn’t about to let her guard down over a few flattering words. After all, her situation was truly dire.
"Please don’t worry, Madam Caroline. As I said, you are our ’mother,’ so we would never harm you. We just need you to help us with one more small favor."
"What favor?"
Looking at its hideous face, Caroline was overcome with a terrible premonition.
"It’s simple. We hope that you, and your daughter, can become the *true* mothers of more of our children."
Having said this, the Goblin before her finally dropped its facade, its smile twisting grotesquely. "Well? It’s a simple matter, isn’t it?"
"You..."
Caroline’s expression changed drastically. ’This filthy Goblin... it actually wants to defile me and my daughter?!’
"Cres—no... Mr. Cres, this is a joke, right?"
She forced a smile, turning a pleading gaze toward Cres.
"I’m sorry, Madam."
Cres spread his hands, a mocking expression on his face. "Just as I said, I am merely honoring a deal I made with another party."
"Please come with me, Madam Caroline... I will provide the best birthing environment for you and your daughter, as well as the finest and strongest males of our clan."
As it spoke, two Silver Level Goblins emerged and advanced on the mother and daughter.
"Wait!"
Caroline was utterly panicked. ’Are they serious? Forcing me to become a plaything for Goblins, a breeding tool?’
However, the two Silver Goblins had no intention of listening. They walked right up to drag them away.
Caroline tried to resist, but she was an Alchemist, not one of the Combat Professions. How could she possibly fight back against two Silver Level Goblins?
Soon, her hands were pinned behind her back, and she was brought before the Quasi-Golden Level Goblin.
Her daughter, Yunice Lawrence, who was already scared stiff, was brought along as well.
"Let go of me!"
Caroline continued to struggle, her body twisting, until the Silver Goblin behind her kicked the back of her knee, forcing her to the ground.
The other Silver Goblin followed suit, kicking Unis as well with a gleeful, vicious grin on its face.
At their level, reproduction itself was no longer the only concern. They had begun to pursue partners based on their figure, appearance, and even social status...
