Chapter 545: Chapter 259: What Do You Mean, Succeeded After Just One Try?
However, anything of a higher Level couldn’t be found within Zone 7. He would have to venture deeper, into Zone 8 of the Giant Stone Mine.
But in a place like that, even he couldn’t guarantee his own safety...
Seth’s brow furrowed. ’If this mission fails, Duke Morin will definitely not spare me. Even my family will suffer. I have to take this gamble!’
He gritted his teeth and pressed on toward the depths of the Giant Stone Mine.
...
Before he knew it, two or three hours had passed.
Perhaps because they were near the edge of Zone 7, not many Demons appeared in the area. In fact, not a single Demon had attacked them in the past two or three hours.
He had already recovered from the previous battle. After a period of Meditation, Lin Mo had adjusted himself to peak condition and was now starting to feel a little bored.
So, he decided to use his Shadow Splitting Skill and send out his Clone to scout the vicinity.
Still, his last scouting attempt hadn’t turned up anything, so Lin Mo wasn’t holding out much hope this time.
"Skill [Eagle Eye] Level 3 (40/40) has been upgraded!"
"Current Skill: [Eagle Eye] Level 4 (0/100)"
Whenever Lin Mo used his Clone, he always activated his Eagle Eye Skill to enhance its vision. Thanks to this prolonged use, the Skill had now reached Level 4.
However, as an Excellent Level Skill, it had already granted an attribute point when it reached Level 3. To gain another, he would need to get it to its Full Level, Level 6.
Additionally, the progress on his Swift Skill was also looking good. It had reached Level 4 (83/100) and wasn’t far from Level 5.
In contrast, he had seriously neglected his Knight Profession Skills, so Lin Mo’s Constitution was much lower than the stats from his other Professions.
According to Lin Mo’s plan, after raising his Warrior and Mage Professions to Elite Level and awakening the special Demon Swordsman Profession, his next step was to promote his Priest and Knight Professions to Elite Level at the same time, in an attempt to acquire the "Holy Knight" Profession.
Of course, there were also his Assassin and Ranger Professions to consider.
’What makes me curious,’ Lin Mo thought, ’is that the Holy Knight Profession in this world has always been achieved through the so-called Power of Holy Light. If I advance both of these Professions at the same time, will I also receive its blessing?’
’In any case, I should focus on training my Knight Profession Skills for now.’
Increasing his Constitution would also bring many benefits. With Ali’s and Shefilya’s Attributes on the rise, while Lin Mo wouldn’t say he was completely outmatched, he was definitely starting to feel the strain.
"Huh?"
Just as Lin Mo was lost in these thoughts, his Clone actually encountered a Demon on the hunt.
This was rather unexpected. Lin Mo paused for a moment, then his expression shifted to one of pleasant surprise.
’I haven’t raised the Skill Level of my Shadow Splitting in a while.’
He had been focusing all his energy on his Warrior and Mage Skills, intent on reaching Elite Level to unlock the Demon Swordsman Profession. As a result, he’d basically put the skills for his other Professions on the back burner.
The Demon before his Clone was a lizard-type.
Lin Mo searched his memory and quickly found information on the creature.
It had to be an Acidic Lizard, also known as an "Acidic Saliva Sprayer"—a type of Demon that could spit a highly acidic liquid.
These Demons are typically between Level 7 and 9, making them a relatively powerful Lord Level Demon.
Upon seeing the "Lin Mo" before it, the Acidic Lizard grew excited, flicking its meter-long, dark-green tongue.
On the surface, however, it appeared extremely sluggish. It dragged its body along slowly, its gaze was vacant, and it seemed to pose no threat whatsoever.
But Lin Mo knew this was one of the Demon’s hunting tactics. It feigned harmlessness, but in reality, the moment an enemy entered its attack range, it would launch a ferocious, all-out assault to kill them instantly.
Unfortunately for the Demon, this trick only worked on inexperienced Adventurers who didn’t recognize its species.
But the kind of rookie Adventurers who might fall for it would almost never make it to a dangerous area like the lower levels of the Giant Stone Mine.
Lin Mo’s current total Strength Attribute was 244, and his Agility Attribute was 190. Since his Level 4 Shadow Splitting allowed the Clone to inherit 65% of his Attributes, it had about 158 Strength and 123 Agility.
With stats like that, it could easily handle a Level 10 Demon, to say nothing of one that was only Level 7-9.
It might not be a match for a Level 11 or higher Middle Lord Level Demon, however. After all, the Clone couldn’t use Skills. Even if its Attributes weren’t inferior to a Level 11 Demon, it lacked any finishing moves.
The Acidic Lizard had clearly never hunted many humans before. It stuck to its usual tactic of pretending to pass by, moving in a different direction from "Lin Mo" but still managing to close the distance between them.
"Lin Mo" played along, continuing forward as if nothing were amiss.
And just as the distance between them closed to about twenty meters... the Acidic Lizard suddenly sprang into action! It charged toward Lin Mo at incredible speed while simultaneously shooting out its long, dark-green tongue, launching a glob of green acid that reeked of a nauseating odor.
Lin Mo instantly blocked the shared sense of smell from his Clone, which easily dodged the premeditated ambush. The dark-green tongue immediately lashed out in pursuit, but "Lin Mo" brought his Sword down in a casual stroke, effortlessly severing it.
The Acidic Lizard shrieked in pain. It finally understood that this was an opponent it stood no chance against. All its fighting spirit vanished, and it hastily scrambled to escape into the distance.
The Clone’s duration was running out. "Lin Mo" strode forward, easily caught up to the lizard, and ran his Sword straight through its head.
[Shadow Splitting] Skill Level +60
’Not bad. It was a Level 8.’
Lin Mo checked the Skill’s progress.
[Shadow Splitting] Level 4 (171/200)
’Not far from Level 5.’
As an Epic-level Skill, Shadow Splitting should grant him a second boost to his Basic Attribute Points and allow him to choose an Evolutionary Direction upon reaching Level 6.
Lin Mo was eager to raise this Skill to Level 6 so he could choose an Evolutionary Path and gain another chance to swap places with his Clone.
A single swap was a one-way exchange; once he went, he couldn’t come back. But two swaps would allow for a round trip, which offered far more tactical flexibility.
’Anyway, there’s no way my real body can go out and explore in such a dangerous area. Before the next wave of Demons arrives, I might as well use my Shadow Splitting Skill to cure my boredom and grind its Skill Level...’
