Chapter 1478: Chapter 29: Taking Down the Police Station (Part 2)

"In my opinion, it’s more likely for our Ukrainian army to march into Moscow."

Yuridovsky said, "Haha, given the state of our army, dreaming of marching into Moscow is laughable. No offense, but many armies out there probably can’t match our ragtag bunch in terms of combat effectiveness."

"You’ve all seen the current state of the army, the officers and soldiers of the 37th Division outside the city, what a mess they are. Their moral character doesn’t even compare to ours, and I fear once they’re on the battlefield, most would be just looking out for themselves."

"If the Russian Red Army really came at us, they might run faster than we would."

Yuridovsky spoke with confidence. Even though the police force is clearly not a match for the army, who hasn’t served in the military at some point!

As far as the situation at Xiqueslav City Police Department goes, over half of the personnel once served under Tsarist Russia, Yuridovsky and others are veterans of World War I.

Mlinovic said, "Haha, our army is indeed a bunch of misfits, but the Russian Red Army isn’t much better."

"Back then we were all soldiers under Tsar, now we’ve just pledged allegiance to different camps. Have they changed? They’re still just two eyes and one mouth each. It’s not like the Labor Party can perform miracles like God and give them an extra arm or leg!"

There’s some truth in Mlinovic’s words, the army led by the Labor Party is primarily made up of Tsar’s leftover assets.

This is not fundamentally different from the current composition of the Ukrainian army. After the Kyiv Treaty, most of the former Tsarist Ukrainian troops joined Ukraine, while the Russian Tsarist troops either joined the Labor Party’s ranks or were eliminated by them.

But undeniably, whether it’s Ukraine or Russia, the army’s core remains legacy from the Tsarist era.

Of course, although they were once the same type of people, there are now considerable differences between the Russian Red Army and the current Ukrainian army, mainly in spirit and belief.

As things stand, the Russian Red Army knows what they fight for, while most of the Ukrainian army still clings to the habits of the Tsarist era, merely getting by.

Though there are problematic elements in the Russian Red Army too, the gap between the two has indeed widened.

It’s like the industrial nations today; Russia is considered to have fair industrial strength, but its industrialization lags behind many other great powers, only ranking at the lower end.

Tarkovsky said, "Mlinovic is correct, they’re just mortal, it’s doubtful the Russian Red Army is much stronger than the Ukrainian army."

"But the major difference between our two countries is Russia’s national strength far exceeds Ukraine’s; Russia has over a hundred million people, while Ukraine has less than twenty million. Without foreign support, we simply can’t resist the Russians."

Tarkovsky’s thinking aligns with most of Ukraine’s, even the Ukrainian Central Government doesn’t believe it can confront Russia as a great power just on its own strength.

Tarkovsky continued, "Ukraine’s industry is also far behind Russia. Not all of the industrial area in Eastern Ukraine is under our control. If Eastern Ukraine were in our hands, we wouldn’t be in such dire straits."

Mlinovic said, "The industry in Eastern Ukraine is indeed crucial, but we have support from great powers like Germany and Austria-Hungary."

"Germany and Austria-Hungary’s military industry strength far surpasses Russia’s. Additionally, England and France also support Ukraine. We can access advanced weapons from much of the world."

"Therefore, as long as Germany and Austria-Hungary ensure the supply of weapons and ammunition, we can continually weaken the Russians, until we bring down Russia’s rotten regime."

The support for Ukraine mainly comes from Germany and Austria-Hungary, as the current Ukrainian government was established with the backing of these two countries, so naturally, they have to bear the main responsibility.

Germany and Austria-Hungary evidently will safeguard Ukraine’s security, unless they no longer wish to advance or are content to amble along.

After all, Eastern Europe is within the sphere of influence of these two countries, a vital market and source of raw materials, also an important agricultural region, bearing economic, strategic, influence, and geopolitical significance for Germany and Austria-Hungary.

Generally speaking, such a region isn’t something to give up easily, although there are counter-examples, like in the past with the Soviet Union, where one key reason for disintegration was abandoning those Labor Party states in Eastern Europe.

Nevertheless, it’s somewhat typical, Russia’s history often goes to extremes and doesn’t leave a way back.

This is probably a result of the Russian character, for neither the ancient civilization of Far East Empire nor history-less United States gets entangled in complexities like Russia.

After some idle chatter, Mlinovic suddenly said, "Isn’t it time to change shifts? Why haven’t we seen Osipovich and the others return?"

Osipovich and his colleagues are police department coworkers responsible for patrolling the neighborhood from twelve to two, although the Xiqueslav City Police Department is rife with vice, some tasks must still be performed.

For instance, maintaining public order, but of course, the main responsibility of Xiqueslav City Police Department is to ensure the safety of the wealthy district and the city center.
