Chapter 1481: Chapter 30: The Red Flag Rises Under the Night Sky (2)

After hearing Filatov’s words, Leonid suddenly realized and hastily replied, "Right, cousin, you always think things through. I’ll go right away..."

Just as Leonid was about to step out of the office, Filatov suddenly said, "Don’t rush. I’ll go with you. I don’t want to stay in this office a second longer."

Since it was confirmed that the city government was likely one of the Labor Party’s targets, Filatov was keen to leave this place.

The saying goes, "As long as the mountains are there, there will be wood to burn." As long as he’s alive, he can reclaim what he’s lost one day, given his family’s influence and connections.

However, if he truly gets trapped by the Labor Party at the city government, his life would probably be over. Regardless of whether Malele can eventually quell the unrest, the Labor Party won’t hesitate to give him a bullet before that.

So, Filatov, having barely arrived from home to the city government and not yet warmed his seat, led his cousin toward the garage. On the way, he told other city government personnel, "I need to head to the police station to check things out. You stay here and mind the military connections."

"Everyone, don’t worry. General Malele’s troops have entered the city to quell the rebellion. The rebels are only a hundred strong, not enough to pose a serious threat..."

Hearing Filatov’s words, the city government people believed him. After all, Xiqueslav City had a whole division stationed there. No matter how formidable the Labor Party was, it couldn’t compete with the Thirty-Seventh Division.

Thus, Filatov and his cousin Leonid abandoned their subordinates and made a swift escape.

Less than ten minutes after they drove away from the Xiqueslav City Government, hundreds of troops led by the Labor Party surrounded the building. Five minutes later, the red flag of the Labor Party quietly rose atop the city government building.

The crimson flag declared that this city had changed hands, but because dawn hadn’t yet broken, the flag could only flutter in the night.

By the time the red flag was raised, Filatov and Leonid had already driven far from the city center.

Their car was an Otto executive car produced in East Africa, known for its reliable performance and high comfort.

However, the road conditions in Xiqueslav City were poor, coupled with Leonid’s terrible driving, leaving Filatov feeling quite jolted.

Filatov, leaning on the backseat sofa, incessantly berated Leonid, "You fool, with the Labor Party orchestrating such a big move right under your nose, and you didn’t notice."

"I made you the head of the anti-Labor Party unit in Xiqueslav City, and this is how you repay me? If the Labor Party really succeeds, we’re both in real trouble."

"Even if the Thirty-Seventh Division crushes the Labor Party, you’ll definitely bear the brunt of the blame. Where did you find this bunch of worthless loafers? If we had caught wind of this earlier, we wouldn’t be reduced to losing everything like now."

Faced with Filatov’s near-furious reprimand, Leonid inwardly cursed, "This group of useless people, all they do is line their pockets. If even a single one of them did his job, I wouldn’t be getting scolded by my cousin."

Meanwhile, as they fled, a dramatic scene was unfolding at the headquarters of the Thirty-Seventh Division in the suburbs.

Going back a dozen minutes earlier, just as Malele ordered the troops to assemble, someone was already on their way to headquarters ahead of schedule.

"Which unit are you from?" the headquarters guards asked the unexpected troops.

Petrov replied to the guards, "We are the 108th Brigade, instructed by General Malele to report here. This is our..."

Just as the guards were about to step forward to check, soldiers under Petrov’s command suddenly acted, subduing the two guards.

"Don’t move, or you’ll get shot," said the cold gun barrel pressed against the guard’s head as he was pinned to the ground.

At this moment, Petrov spoke, "Tie them up. We’re going to meet Malele and the others."

Soon, they brazenly entered the courtyard of the headquarters, and facing superior numbers, Malele’s security unit, though sensing something was wrong, dared not act rashly.

Because the opponent was dressed in military uniforms and equipped with weapons that looked like their own, and the leader Petrov was wearing an officer’s attire. Judging by his rank, he was at least a colonel, and given their substantial numbers, made them even more cautious.

Subsequently, they sensibly handed over their firearms.

And Petrov, along with his men, reached the command room of the headquarters, trapping Malele and the Thirty-Seventh Division leadership inside.

"Petrov, what are you doing? Are you going to rebel?" Malele shouted at Petrov and the soldiers he’d brought.

Petrov clapped his hands and said, "Commander, you’re as sharp as ever. Since you already know our intention, kindly cooperate with us. The headquarters is now entirely under our regiment’s control, so you’d better not play tricks."

Hearing Petrov’s straightforward words, Malele and the high-ranking officers of the Thirty-Seventh Division were dumbfounded.

Commander Malele swallowed and pointed a trembling finger at Petrov, "You, you... you’re Labor Party!"

Petrov laughed heartily and said, "Yes, I’m now a Labor Party warrior."

Malele exclaimed angrily, "Petrov, I have treated you well. Why do you betray me and join the Labor Party?"
