Chapter 1514: Chapter 43: Drugging (Part 3)
After all, Rovtashenka’s village is just an ordinary village, how could there be a large amount of illegal substances.
Popov said, "You don’t need to worry about the substance issue, I can handle it, but this matter must be dealt with cautiously."
"Especially if they become aware of it, it could lead to failure, particularly if someone with psychological issues is sent to carry out the task, it’s easy to expose flaws."
What Popov mentioned is indeed very crucial, much like Jing Ke’s assassination of the King of Qin in Far East Empire’s history, if encountering someone like Qin Wuyang who flounders at critical moments, it could very well spell disaster for an otherwise perfect plan.
Applied to Popov and others’ plan, this means that executors with poor psychological resilience might reveal flaws, possibly arousing suspicion from the White Bandits.
Regarding Popov’s concerns, Rovtashenka said, "Let me execute this plan myself. I definitely won’t make any mistakes, plus I can access the kitchen, which won’t easily arouse the enemy’s suspicion."
Popov had no doubt about Rovtashenka Village Chief’s psychological resilience. The fact that he dared to run to Liuban Village in the middle of the night to provide intelligence clearly showed he was someone with guts and vigilance, of course, the more important factor being the White Bandits’ casualness.
If the White Bandits had any sense of alertness, Rovtashenka would have been in grave danger.
Nonetheless, the White Bandits’ lax and unguarded nature made it convenient for Popov’s plan execution.
...
The next day, at Luni Nici Village, the very village where Rovtashenka resided.
At this moment, Rovtashenka had long returned here, and the guerrilla fighters had returned with him, now hiding in his home.
As dawn just broke, Rovtashenka arrived at the place where the White Bandits lodged, which was originally the estate of a landlord from Luni Nici Village, the finest accommodation in the village, used as a temporary base by the White Bandits’ grain requisition team.
Rovtashenka carried a large sack of potatoes on his back, casually walking into the kitchen, just like usual, under the unwatchful eyes of the White Bandit soldiers, followed by three villagers responsible for cooking for the White Bandits.
As mentioned before, potatoes are a staple food in Belarus, so Rovtashenka carrying potatoes did not arouse the enemy’s suspicion at all.
In the kitchen, Rovtashenka helped peel the potatoes, and during the next process, the mashing of the potatoes, he quietly took out some powder from his pocket and stealthily put it in, having already delegated others to do different tasks.
Generally, villagers in Luni Nici eat potatoes simply by boiling or steaming them, but clearly, the White Bandits’ grain requisition team doesn’t do it this way—they eat a type of pancake made from mixed potatoes and coarse grain flour, which is why Rovtashenka was confident in the possibility of spiking the dish, considering the usual method of eating potatoes where they are washed perfunctorily, and cooked whole without peeling.
Under such circumstances, there is no way to incorporate substances, and at this point, attempts must be made through the dishes, but cooks are fixed, as White Bandits are quite picky, they surely want the village’s best chef to craft the meals.
Hence for Rovtashenka to spike the food, he first had to collude with the chef, but this worried Rovtashenka about potential mishaps. However, fortunately, the issue could be resolved during the main dish stage, and currently, only Rovtashenka knew about the spiking of the staple food.
