Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Wyatt Everett Kneels and Begs for Forgiveness
Sienna Everett’s brow furrowed in distaste the moment she heard that name.
Wyatt Everett ran up to Sienna Everett, his eyes filled with remorse and guilt. His lips trembled, his voice verging on tears. "Sienna, I was wrong about you..."
Hearing Wyatt Everett’s words, Keith Sterling’s eyes filled with disdain, and he let out a cold scoff. "Now you realize you were wrong? Where were you before?"
Wyatt Everett’s face was a mask of pain. "I was deceived by Shannon Everett! I didn’t know the person who saved me back then was Sienna. If I had known..."
At this, the disdain on Keith Sterling’s face deepened.
He first glanced at Sienna Everett and saw her clear aversion to Wyatt Everett.
Keith Sterling didn’t hold back any longer, mercilessly lashing out at Wyatt Everett.
"So you know you were deceived by Shannon Everett, huh? Tell me, how did she deceive you? Oh, right, Shannon Everett just told a casual lie and you bought it. You didn’t bother to investigate for yourself, and you wouldn’t listen to a single word of Sienna Everett’s explanation. I bet in your heart, you never once considered Sienna Everett family! Sienna Everett is your real sister, for crying out loud! How could you not show her a shred of trust?"
Wyatt Everett was rendered speechless.
He had no ground to stand on. In the past, he hadn’t given Sienna Everett even a sliver of trust.
He had never even treated Sienna Everett as family.
If he had regarded Sienna Everett as family in the slightest, he wouldn’t have so easily believed Shannon Everett’s one-sided story.
Ultimately, it was because he had completely failed to fulfill his responsibilities as an older brother.
Sienna Everett, not wanting to deal with Wyatt Everett, grabbed Keith Sterling’s arm to leave.
"Sienna!" Wyatt Everett’s eyes were bloodshot as he quickly moved to block Sienna Everett’s path. "I was wrong before! I shouldn’t have treated you like that!"
Hearing this belated apology, Sienna Everett’s heart remained as still as a calm sea, without the slightest ripple.
Wyatt Everett looked at his own sister, consumed by guilt and self-blame. He had a stomach full of things he wanted to say to her—he wanted to apologize, to tell her he was wrong—but for a moment, he didn’t know where to begin.
Keith Sterling glanced at Sienna Everett, then at Wyatt Everett.
’This was ultimately Sienna Everett’s business. It wasn’t his place to interfere too much.’
Keith Sterling made a gesture to Sienna Everett, indicating he would give them some space. He stayed nearby, however, not going far.
’If Wyatt Everett dared to bully Sienna Everett again, he could quickly step in to help.’
「After Keith Sterling had moved away.」
Sienna Everett looked at Wyatt Everett, her expression blank and her voice cold. "Wyatt Everett, I have nothing to say to you."
Her indifferent attitude stung Wyatt Everett.
’But he had brought this on himself. He deserved it!’
"Sienna, I’m sorry. I’ve been wrong about you all this time!"
"Unfortunately, I found out too late. You’re the one who risked her life to save me. You’re the sister I should have cherished the most!"
"It’s all because I was blind! It’s all because I failed to do my duty as your brother!"
"Sienna, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have treated you that way before..."
As Wyatt Everett spoke, tears welled in his eyes, which were filled with the agony of regret.
Sienna Everett just gave a derisive laugh, her tone deceptively light. "Oh? And so what? Do you think saying ’I was wrong’ can erase all the beatings and verbal abuse from the past?"
’The old Sienna Everett, upon hearing such a heartfelt confession from Wyatt Everett, would have been thrilled. She would have forgiven him on the spot, called him ’Third Brother,’ and happily resumed being his sister.’
But the Sienna Everett of today, having endured heartbreak and despair time and time again, no longer held any expectations for the Everett Family. She wanted nothing more to do with them.
When Wyatt Everett heard Sienna Everett’s words, it felt as if a massive boulder had slammed into his heart.
’Do you think saying ’I was wrong’ can erase all the beatings and verbal abuse from the past?’
How could Wyatt Everett possibly forget how he had treated Sienna Everett in the past?
Just thinking about it made his chest tighten with so much pain and regret he could barely breathe, a sharp lump forming in his throat.
He remembered when they first brought Sienna Everett back to the Everett Family home. She had been so bright and charming, so full of life and vivid beauty.
But in order to fit in with the Everett Family, to gain the Everett’s approval, she had abandoned her true self. She became yielding and submissive, trailing behind them, trying to cater to their every whim.
How desperate she must have been for affection, for the Everett’s acceptance, to humble herself to such a lowly position.
But even when she had humbled herself to the dust, she still hadn’t received a single shred of family affection in return.
Wyatt Everett no longer dared to dwell on how he used to treat her.
He had verbally abused her, hurling all sorts of vile words at her. He’d called her vicious, accused her of trying to usurp Shannon’s position as the family’s precious daughter, and told her she was unworthy of being his, Wyatt Everett’s, sister.
Besides the verbal abuse, he had also physically assaulted her. He had beaten her with a discipline ruler, grabbed the nearest water glass to hurl at her, letting the porcelain shards cut her skin and draw blood...
’Abusing his own sister like that... he was truly a monster!’
Wyatt Everett raised a hand. SLAP! He struck himself hard across the face.
"Sienna, I’m a bastard! I’ve wronged you! I can’t believe I treated you like that, that I beat my own sister. I’m such a bastard!!"
Tears filled Wyatt Everett’s eyes as he, once again, SLAPPED himself across the face, begging for her forgiveness.
Sienna Everett glanced at the setting sun, then her calm, unwavering gaze fell upon his face. "Wyatt Everett, I truly regret saving you back then."
Upon hearing this, Wyatt Everett felt as if a heavy hammer had slammed into his chest, and the blood in his veins turned to ice.
’She said she regretted it.’
’She regretted saving him.’
’How disappointed must she be in him to say something like that.’
’She was utterly, completely disappointed in him.’
’She didn’t want him as her brother anymore.’
Tears spilled from Wyatt Everett’s eyes, streaming down his cheeks in torrents.
His heart ached as if pierced by ten thousand silver needles.
Wyatt Everett’s body swayed, and he staggered back two steps before suddenly dropping to his knees in front of Sienna Everett.
Sienna Everett’s brow twitched slightly as she looked down at him.
Wyatt Everett knelt before Sienna Everett, his face streaked with tears, his bloodshot eyes filled with remorse and self-recrimination.
"Sienna, I’m sorry. I’ve let you down..."
"I was a fool before. I was a bastard. I failed to fulfill my duties as a brother. Can you please forgive me? Give me a chance to make it up to you..."
Sienna Everett looked down at him, her clear eyes showing no trace of emotion, her tone cool.
"Wyatt Everett, a belated apology is cheaper than dirt."
The wounds of the past cannot be erased by a simple apology.
After saying her piece, Sienna Everett didn’t spare another glance for the kneeling Wyatt Everett and turned to leave without a shred of reluctance.
Not far away, Keith Sterling saw Sienna Everett leaving and immediately went to meet her. "Sierra, are you two done talking?"
Sienna Everett nodded. "Yeah."
Keith Sterling glanced back. Wyatt Everett was still kneeling there, looking utterly lost, as if he had truly realized his mistakes.
Wyatt Everett watched Sienna Everett’s retreating back, refusing to get up.
’He had been a fool. He had wronged his own sister. It was only right that Sienna didn’t want to forgive him right away.’
’He would work hard to prove himself to Sienna. He would work hard to make it up to her. He would definitely earn Sienna’s forgiveness!’
’Sienna... she would forgive him... right?’
