Chapter 98: Chapter 98: The Eye-Searing Cross-Dressing Big Shot
Shannon Everett saw the situation online and was secretly ecstatic, but she still had to put on an act of a deeply concerned sister. "But Mom, won’t this be bad for my sister? And what about tomorrow’s press conference..."
Sheila Whitaker took her hand and sighed.
"Shannon, you’re just too considerate. That wretched girl has already left the Everett family, so why do you still care about her? I gave her life; she should be repaying me!"
"Right now, she’s just getting a few insults thrown at her in an online pile-on. It’s not like it’s going to kill her, so stop worrying about it!"
After speaking, Sheila looked over at Mason Everett and instructed, "Mason, keep a close eye on the press conference tomorrow. If that wretched girl apologizes to me, I will absolutely not accept it. Make her apologize to Shannon and the Everett family at the same time!"
Mason was eagerly anticipating the next day’s press conference. "Don’t worry, I’ll handle it."
「Veridian Gardens.」
Sienna Everett saw the vitriol online, but her mood remained unaffected.
Her phone, however, was buzzing with comforting messages from many of her friends.
Keith Sterling, Orion Hawthorne, and Isabelle Sutton had also sent texts.
Sienna replied to each of them, telling them not to worry.
「That afternoon.」
Sienna went to Sovereign Entertainment to discuss the details of the press conference with Stella Shaw.
After finalizing the details, Sienna left Stella’s office.
She glanced at the time; it was nearly 5:00 PM.
As she was walking out, she ran into two very strange-looking janitors in the hallway. They were two very tall "women" wearing uniform dresses, surgical masks, and long, shoulder-length hair with bangs that half-covered their eyes.
Sienna gave them a subconscious glance but paid them no mind.
’They’re really tall,’ she thought. ’They must be over six feet.’
Sienna continued on her way, heading for the elevator to go downstairs.
But after a few steps, she noticed the two janitors were furtively following her.
Sienna frowned. ’Did these two see what’s online and decide they want to curse me out in person?’
Sienna stopped and turned around.
The two janitors hadn’t expected her sudden turn. They panicked for a moment, then quickly pretended to look around while grabbing their mops and starting to clean the floor.
But their movements were clumsy. They clearly didn’t know how to use a mop, and they ended up smearing dirt across the previously clean floor.
Sienna slowly swept her gaze over them and asked coolly, "Why are you following me?"
The two janitors refused to speak, only waving their hands dismissively.
Sienna glanced at the dirtied floor, then lifted her eyes to them. "Did you see the news online? Do you think I pushed my own mother and decided to come here to curse me out in person just for the thrill of it?"
Hearing this, one of the janitors grew anxious and shouted, "No, no! Absolutely not!"
The shout came out in a rough, masculine voice.
Sienna: ’?’
’What the hell?’
Sienna was utterly baffled.
The janitor who had blown their cover whipped off his mask. "Alright, alright, I’m done pretending! Dustin, you take your mask off too!"
When Sienna saw his face, her brow furrowed and her expression turned icy.
It was Wyatt Everett and Dustin Everett, dressed in women’s clothing and wearing wigs!
’I told them not to wait for me at the company entrance, so they disguised themselves as janitors and snuck in.’
Dustin Everett, wearing the janitor’s uniform dress and flinging back his long, wavy hair, tossed his mop aside and bounded over to Sienna.
’It was an assault on the eyes.’
’She felt like she was going blind.’
Dustin said excitedly, "Sienna, I saw what’s happening online. Even if you really did push Mom... I mean, push Sheila Whitaker, I’m sure you had your reasons! I’ve got your back!"
Dustin had started to say "pushed Mom," but then he remembered Sheila Whitaker’s interview—how she had blatantly framed Sienna while belittling her and praising Shannon. It was too much.
’He just couldn’t bring himself to say the word "Mom"!’
Wyatt also threw down his mop and rushed over. "Good for you for pushing her, Sienna! I support you too!"
Sienna had no desire to see either of them. The sight was nauseating.
She turned to leave.
Wyatt immediately blocked her path. "Sienna, don’t look at all that hateful stuff online. They’re all blind, they’re all morons!"
Dustin pulled out his phone and held the screen up to Sienna, eager to prove his loyalty. "Sienna, look! I’ve gone through and replied to all the nasty comments, cursing them out one by one! And I even hired a bot army to specifically attack the Everetts!"
He’d even cursed himself out in the process.
Wyatt asked worriedly, "Sienna, what’s your plan for the press conference tomorrow?"
Sienna didn’t answer, just shot them a cold look. "Move."
Wyatt stood before her in his dress and wig, a sorrowful expression on his face. He said gingerly, "Sienna, no matter what happens tomorrow, Dustin and I will always, always be on your side!"
Sienna’s patience ran out. "I said, get lost. Didn’t you hear me?" she said coldly.
A sharp pain pierced Wyatt’s heart, followed by a wave of bitter sorrow. He hung his head and silently moved out of her way.
Dustin wanted to say more, but seeing the revulsion and resistance on his sister’s face, he dejectedly shut his mouth.
Without a backward glance, Sienna left and pressed the button for the elevator. ’I need to call Stella,’ she thought. ’We have to be more careful and make sure these two can’t sneak in again.’
Only after Sienna’s figure had disappeared from view did Dustin, still in his awkward dress, pick up the mop from the floor. "Wyatt, what do we do? Sienna still won’t give us the time of day."
Wyatt seemed to remember something and snorted triumphantly. "She won’t give *you* the time of day. She definitely paid attention to *me* just now!"
Dustin frowned.
Wyatt boasted, "Sienna said two whole sentences to me!"
One was "Move," and the other was "I said, get lost. Didn’t you hear me?"
’That’s nine words in total!’
Dustin was both speechless and jealous. "She was cursing you out!"
Wyatt looked smug. "Well, she didn’t even bother to curse *you* out, so it looks like she wants nothing to do with you at all. And let me warn you, even though you’re my own brother, don’t you dare try to compete with me for our sister’s affection. I was the one who realized how great Sienna is first!"
Dustin’s eyes widened. "Sienna is my sister too!"
Wyatt picked up his mop, wanting to swing it at him, but wearing a dress made it awkward, and he nearly had a wardrobe malfunction.
’Still, dressing in drag today wasn’t a total waste. At least I finally got to see Sienna.’
But when he thought about the online pile-on and vitriol directed at Sienna, Wyatt’s brow furrowed again.
...
「The next day, at the press conference.」
As public opinion fermented, the online crusade against Sienna Everett reached its peak. Reporters from all major media outlets had flocked to the venue, swarming the press conference and waiting for Sienna to give them an explanation.
Mason Everett, Sheila Whitaker, and Shannon Everett were also watching the press conference with keen interest.
