Aaron Lynch hadn’t expected these people to be so incredibly powerful.

Particularly Nina Jacobs. He could tell she wasn’t just a Three-Element Superpower User—her strength was at least at the Intermediate level! All she had to do was manipulate her devastatingly lethal Superpowers to instantly turn the tide of the battle.

It wasn’t just her; the others were not to be underestimated either.

That Thunder Element Superpower User actually wielded the Strength Element Superpower as well. He stayed firmly by Nina’s side; though he didn’t speak a word, the two shared an exceptional tacit understanding. Then there was the Wood Element Ability User who controlled the Blood Vine. The Wood Element Intermediate Zombie was practically defenseless against her.

The overwhelming despair brought by the Zombie Horde vanished in an instant.

Everyone worked together in perfect synchronization to slaughter the zombies. Whenever anyone fell into danger, those nearby would immediately notice and help them escape. Although Nina didn’t throw herself into the thick of the melee, she used her Group Attack Skill to minimize the threat of the Zombie Horde. Barely forty minutes later, the horde of over a thousand zombies had been reduced to a scattered few.

"She’s a natural-born commander," Ivan Young muttered.

This was the first time the members of Soul Slayer had fought alongside others to kill so many zombies. Although they were nearly frozen stiff, excitement plastered their faces.

After checking on the surviving companions, Aaron threw himself in front of several mangled corpses. "It’s my fault for not leading the way properly," he sobbed.

"Everyone, get in the cars and let’s leave. It’s not safe here," Yvonne Willow called out as she hopped out of her vehicle. She then pulled two intact cars out of her spatial storage. These were their backups; she always brought a few along whenever they went out.

"Thank you. Are you the official rescue team from the City D Base?" Ivan asked as he got into the car. He had never seen such an outstanding commander.

"No, we’re just a Psionics Unit from the base," Elara Dolan replied.

This answer shocked Ivan more than anything else. He wondered if they were really just an ordinary squad of Superpower Users. However, this was no time for discussion. The stench of blood here was far too heavy, which would likely attract another swarm of zombies at any moment.

Nina led the group to a small supermarket they had frequently used as a resting spot over the past few days. Just moments ago, she had unlocked the system’s "Selfless Savior" title. After everyone got out of the cars, she took out two bottles of Healing Potion and poured them into the insulated thermos of ginger tea kept in the vehicle. She then had Wayne Warner carry the thermos down.

The abandoned supermarket had been emptied of goods long ago, but its walls were thick enough, and it was surrounded by temporary traps they had set up a few days prior. It was considered the safest place in the vicinity.

Fern Spencer hadn’t expected Nina and her team to rescue so many people. Fortunately, the Fern Squad’s Healer had been tagging along these past few days. With some wound-treating tools and medicines left in the abandoned supermarket, they were able to stop everyone’s bleeding for the time being.

"Did you mention earlier that you were heading to the City D Base to seek reinforcements? What happened over at the South Riven Base?" Nina asked after having the members of Stella distribute the ginger tea to the survivors.

Aaron still seemed immersed in the pain of losing his teammates, so Ivan answered instead.

Ivan explained, "South Riven has been facing a severe zombie crisis recently. The base’s defensive power is weak, and the barricade walls in multiple surrounding lockdown zones have been destroyed by zombies.

"Lately, zombies have been unexpectedly breaking into the base every day. On top of that, the ammunition and weapons stored in the base frequently malfunction in this extreme cold, leading to catastrophic combat losses for our Superpower Users... Now, the zombie encirclement around the base is drawing closer and closer, which is why Commander Gallagher decided to request reinforcements from Level Three Base D.

"Over a hundred people die in the jaws of zombies every day. We are completely out of options!" He grew more and more agitated as he spoke.

"Calm down for now. This matter is of grave importance, and I’m afraid it’s not something you or I can decide. We can take you to the City D Base first," Nina said. This was an issue between two bases; she had no place intervening.

"We understand that," Jude Stone said as he stepped forward. "You all saved our lives today, and we will definitely repay you in the future!"

"Miss Jacobs, these are all of our Crystal Cores, roughly seventy thousand in total," Aaron said as he instructed an injured Space Superpower User to bring out the Crystal Cores. "You saved so many lives; it’s only right that we give these to you."

"The agreed-upon amount won’t change. Keep the rest for yourselves," Nina said, instructing Yvonne to collect fifty thousand Crystal Cores before preparing to escort the group back to the base.

In her previous life, she had never heard of the City D Base reinforcing South Riven. Then again, perhaps it was because these people hadn’t survived to reach the City D Base in her past life...

Ivan had mentioned that the situation at the South Riven Base was incredibly grim and that it could be annihilated at any moment. However, she knew from her past life that the South Riven Base had managed to survive the extreme cold. She had heard that either a small base or a civilian organization had come to their aid. However, after the extreme cold passed, the Base Commander of South Riven had been replaced—it was no longer Akira Gallagher.

Aside from that, Nina had no way of knowing what exactly had transpired there in her previous life.

This time, however, the news of arrivals from the South Riven Base quickly caught the attention of the higher-ups.

A Tier Three Base had the responsibility and obligation to support a Level Two Base. Justin Lawson immediately established a special task force to handle the matter, with Adrian Paige acting as its representative. Although Adrian was not originally from the City D Base, he represented the central command.

"Distant help is useless in an immediate crisis, and Level Three Base D is the only Tier Three Base in the vicinity. However, the command center will still listen to Commander Lawson’s opinion," Adrian said. If Justin disagreed with deploying reinforcements, he would have to think of another way.

"South Riven is facing a severe trial, and how could that not be intimately connected to our City D? When such a thing happens, our Drakonia must undoubtedly unite as one. Deploying troops for support is our inescapable duty!" Justin declared.

Multiple routes connected the South Riven Base and the City D Base. If South Riven fell, City D would inevitably suffer the consequences as well.

Adrian nodded. "Naturally, I trust Commander Lawson. However, this time, I’d like to borrow one more person from your esteemed base."

He wanted Nina to accompany them to the South Riven Base. As compensation, he was willing to pay her in Crystal Cores and supplies under the name of the command center. Of course, the final decision still rested with Nina herself.

"Me?" Nina was slightly surprised upon hearing the request.

She had indeed been pondering over the South Riven Base ever since she returned. After all, members of the Ainsworth Family were located there.

"The roads over in South Riven are steep and full of forks. They definitely won’t be as easy to clear as the ones here in City D," Daniel Hale said worriedly. "Besides, rumor has it that a formidable Four-element Intermediate Zombie has appeared there."

"Four-element?!" Leo Hale’s eyes widened in shock. He had thought that three elements were the absolute limit.

"Exactly. That’s why I’m worried about what will happen if our people go..." Daniel was actually more concerned about Nina. He could tell she had no intention of refusing.

"If you really don’t want to go, then we just won’t," Vera Coleman urged gently.

"If I’m going with the base’s forces, it shouldn’t be too dangerous. Besides, I heard that the other five from the Superpower User tournament will be going as well," Nina said. She guessed this was probably because Adrian wanted to put them through actual combat training.

"Sigh, it seems this extreme cold won’t let us have much peace either," Vera sighed. She had heard from Daniel that the base was planning to restore the order they had before the temperature drop, slowly encouraging Superpower Users to resume heading outside.
