After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret
Chapter 602 Split Up
Based solely on the current situation, nothing unusual could be detected. Moreover, this Kevin Nash seemed to hold a certain degree of prestige in the eyes of those from South Riven Base. Even the people he had brought back didn’t look like they were acting.
Outside the car window, Adrian Paige still seemed to be discussing something with Kevin Nash. Nina Jacobs activated her Five Senses Enhancement and overheard their conversation.
“…Returning to the base first isn’t a bad idea, but if we delay by another day, my frostbitten brothers might… If possible, I still hope Mr. Paige can reconsider.” Kevin pleaded earnestly, his face etched with anxiety.
“There’s no need to agonize over this anymore. If it’s just about receiving people, I will simply take some men and accompany General Nash,” Adrian replied.
“Adrian, do you mean we should split into two groups?” Heath Chandler asked.
Adrian nodded. “The routes in South Riven are complex and prone to zombie sieges. Having so many people go would actually be more dangerous. It’s better if I take some men and go with General Nash.” He had checked the location Kevin mentioned, and it wasn’t on their way. There was simply no need to drag so many people along on a risky detour.
“That’s not entirely unfeasible.” Heath pondered for a moment before adding, “I’ll go with you.”
Adrian nodded and turned back to Kevin. “What does General Nash think?”
“As long as we can pick up my brothers as quickly as possible and get them treated, I’m fine with anything!” Kevin answered gratefully.
Adrian nodded. He walked over to Nina’s car and explained the situation to her.
“Shirley Lucas will continue to stick with your group. It’s safer that way,” Adrian said. City D’s support this time wasn’t merely in terms of personnel; there was also a substantial amount of supplies and weaponry. All of these items were stored within Shirley’s Space Superpower, so absolutely nothing could happen to her. In his view, Shirley would be safest by Nina’s side.
“Alright, I’ll bring everyone safely to the base,” Nina replied.
“We’ll have to trouble Miss Jacobs again this time. However, the road back to the base won’t be easy to travel, so you all need to be extra careful,” Kevin said with concern.
“Don’t worry. I always keep my word.” Nina smiled faintly.
“I heard them say that Miss Jacobs is also a Three-Element Superpower User. With all of you here, it seems South Riven Base is saved this time!” Kevin sighed with emotion to the people beside him.
“General Nash, time is tight. We should set off as early as possible.” Adrian had already arranged the accompanying personnel. Meanwhile, Shirley took out a few buses and some first-aid supplies, transferring them to the Space Superpower User accompanying Kevin.
The two teams then drove off in different directions.
Nina noticed that Tyson Hughes had also gotten into the same vehicle as Adrian. To ensure a rapid response to any unexpected situations, she had Shirley store away their previous car. She, Wayne Warner, and a few others boarded Vehicle 1 of the convoy.
Inside the car, Sylvia Shawn subconsciously sat up straight the moment she saw Nina get in.
“Jacobs, will we be able to reach South Riven Base today?” Mr. Lewis, the driver, was a veteran driver in the rescue team. Nina had ridden in his car before, so the two were relatively well-acquainted.
“I’m not sure yet. It depends on what we encounter ahead,” Nina answered.
“Anyway, with you protecting our cars every time, we aren’t afraid of whatever we run into.” Having said that, Mr. Lewis focused intently on driving. Whenever the team was killing zombies, Nina would cast her sand shield over their vehicles. The drivers had absolutely nothing to worry about.
“If we could have Jacobs’ guidance every time we encountered zombies, I’d be willing to face them any number of times. I truly benefited a lot from yesterday’s battle.” At this moment, Julian Wells attentively walked up to Nina’s seat and offered her a warm canned beverage.
Nina didn’t take the drink. She simply said, “Just call me Nina.”
“Alright, Miss Nina.” Julian didn’t feel embarrassed in the slightest as he smoothly scurried back to his seat.
Sylvia stifled a laugh. It was her first time seeing Julian—a notoriously slippery character—act so obediently.
The car had only been driving for a little over ten minutes when Hartley sensed danger.
“There are about 1,200 zombies on the road ahead. Based on the surrounding numbers, if we stop, we’ll likely be dealing with a horde of around 3,000,” Hartley reported.
Three thousand zombies. It would take them about an hour to clear the horde and leave the area.
Nina nodded upon hearing this. “Then we won’t stop.”
Shirley immediately understood her intention. She took out a walkie-talkie and explained the situation to the vehicles behind them. Mr. Lewis was already well-accustomed to this sort of thing. Running over zombies with a bus wasn’t difficult, though there was naturally the risk of flipping the vehicle. However, with Nina present, the drivers clearly had no need to worry about such trivialities.
Just as the Zombie Horde gathered ahead and lunged roaring toward the front of the vehicle, a massive air current drove straight through the entire roadway. The devastated road was instantly swept clear by the blast, hurling the zombies to both sides of the street. To the shock of everyone inside the vehicle, the zombies struggling to get up on the sides of the road were pinned down, completely unable to move. It was as if some immensely powerful air current was crushing them against the ground.
“Is that… a Wind Element Superpower?” A look of awe washed over Julian’s face.
A thousand zombies within range were simultaneously immobilized by the coercive pressure of the Wind Element. The only person capable of pulling this off was Nina, who was currently standing on the roof of the vehicle. That was her Wind Element Superpower.
Mr. Lewis let out a joyful cheer and immediately floored the gas pedal, speeding away from the perilous stretch of road.
The zombies in South Riven were indeed numerous. In just an hour of driving, they had their path blocked by a Zombie Horde four times. Fortunately, with Nina at the helm, they hadn’t needed to stop a single time during those four encounters.
“It looks like we really have to stop ahead,” Nina murmured to herself as she stood alone on the roof of the bus, gazing into the distance. According to the system map, a section of the road ahead was destroyed, and there were massive numbers of zombies gathered at the wreckage.
“Were these zombies… lured in here by someone else?” Sylvia asked, staring at the enormous crater in front of her.
Nearly three hundred meters of the road ahead had been hollowed out, packed to the brim with zombies trying to claw their way up. With so many zombies trapped in this massive pit all at once, either someone had lured them in to escape, or this was a deliberate zombie trap. Clearing out the zombies here one by one would likely take at least half a day.
“It’s probably someone’s handiwork,” Nina replied.
ROAR!
Several Mutated Zombies were already lunging toward them. Countless more zombies continued to scramble out of the giant pit.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
With a wave of her hand, Nina condensed a Diamond Sand Wall.
“Attention, everyone! Watch your rear and retreat four hundred meters!” Nina ordered.
Retreat?
Shirley’s eyes lit up. “Are we going to use that?” She had quite a few weapons from the Drenhelm Weapons Research Institute stored in her space.
“Yeah. Let’s warm them up by the fire.” Nina had Shirley take out several Liaoyuan Crystals.
A few minutes later, towering prairie fires illuminated the midair in a blazing red.
“These people from City D are quite capable, aren’t they?” a man said from atop a tall building in the distance, observing the flames through high-powered binoculars. “I didn’t expect them to get here so quickly. What should we do next?” Behind the man stood several men and women, one of whom asked in a regional dialect.
According to their plan, these people weren’t supposed to arrive for at least another four hours.
