After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret
Chapter 605: Leave No One Alive
Leo Langley watched the scene unfold in absolute shock. Without even bothering to gather her strength, his opponent had casually neutralized his attack.
“Is she really an Intermediate Superpower User?” he wondered. “To be precise, are these people really from the base?”
During the brief moment Leo was distracted, six of the Intermediate Superpower Users he had painstakingly recruited from all over had already been wiped out! Nina Jacobs’s Wind and Fire Blades had killed two of them.
“Are you idiots? Attack together! Why should we be the only ones on the front lines?” Leo Keller shouted at the surrounding villagers. “Once we’re dead, you’ll die too!”
Hearing this, the onlookers finally stopped cowering and charged at the small group trapped in the center. Meanwhile, Leo Langley whispered something to a man behind him. The man nodded in understanding and slipped away amid the chaos.
“Leo Keller, Abbott, help me hold her off!” Leo Langley ordered. As long as they could stall Nina for just a few seconds, he had a way to kill her.
However, Holden Shaw appeared in front of Nina like a phantom. A Speed Element Superpower User tried to take the opportunity to ambush Nina from behind, only to crash headlong into an electrified net.
“AHHH!”
A sudden, agonizing scream rent the air. Wayne Warner’s Thunder Element Superpower unleashed a high-voltage surge that instantly carbonized the attacker.
“What a bunch of useless trash,” Leo Langley cursed.
“It seems your soldiers aren’t much use, either.” Nina waved her hand, conjuring several Fire Serpents that lunged at Leo from both sides. He immediately formed ice walls to block them, but to his surprise, the Fire Serpents struck with such tremendous force that they shattered the ice walls on either side of him!
“Where did you get your Mystic Ice Core?” Nina asked while controlling the Fire Serpents to chase him down. The fiery snakes were incredibly agile, weaving playfully through the crowd and making Leo look like a monkey being toyed with.
Just moments ago, Hartley had informed her that Leo Langley and over a dozen other Intermediate Superpower Users had all absorbed Mystic Ice Cores. With over a dozen Mystic Ice Cores in play, she was very curious about where these people had obtained them.
“You want to know? I can tell you, but…” As Leo spoke, he raised his hands high, bringing down several Ice Spikes from midair.
Seeing Nina block the Ice Spikes with her Superpower, Leo quickly circled around to target Shirley Lucas, who was standing off to the side. Shirley had just intercepted a Superpower attack out of thin air, which was clearly a Space Superpower. He was the Space Superpower User! As long as Leo could take him hostage, the rest of them definitely wouldn’t dare make a move!
However, the sudden jolt of agony that followed plunged him into an icy abyss of despair. A Stone Spike erupted from the ground and impaled one of his thighs. The excruciating pain made him scream out loud.
“You refuse to answer the question and try to pull a sneak attack instead? Then there’s no point in playing this game.” At Nina’s command, Blood Vines surged forward, wrapping tightly around Leo layer by layer.
“Master Lawrence! He’s defeated?” Leo Keller and the others stared at the scene in sheer disbelief.
“Are you still not going to surrender?” Hartley shouted.
Instead, Leo Langley flashed a sinister grin from within the grip of the Blood Vines. “Surrender? You’re the ones who are finished!” He raised his hand and made a quick gesture, and an enticing, sweet fragrance instantly filled the air.
“What’s that smell?” Shirley felt something was wrong.
“Hold your breath. It’s pollen,” Nina realized immediately.
The Wood Element Vines bearing white flowers above their heads weren’t just there to seal off the village. The pollen scattered by those white blooms had a paralyzing effect! Right now, the nearly invisible pollen was drifting down in a fine mist.
“Heheheh, you’re really done for,” Leo gloated. “This pollen takes effect three minutes after inhalation.”
Nina, however, did not panic. “Three minutes is more than enough,” she simply replied.
The next second, a hurricane erupted. Furious air currents swirling with roaring flames twisted in her palm. The inferno, carried by the Wind Element airflow, was hurled into the sky.
BOOM!
The massive net of vines looming over the village was instantly reduced to falling ash by the flames. Seizing the opportunity, Nina had her companions drink the Healing Potions.
Sitting in the distance, Joan Sutton coughed up a mouthful of blood, all the color draining from her face.
“You guys certainly have a lot of tricks up your sleeves,” Nina said to Leo. “But this is where it ends.”
“What do you mean?” Leo scoffed, certain there was no way Nina could have noticed his ultimate trap.
However, violent crashes suddenly echoed from beneath the ground. Accompanying the thuds were the agonizing shrieks of hundreds of Mutated Animals—specifically, mutant moles. Bright orange, glowing cracks fractured the earth’s surface, looking as if rivers of magma were flowing and burning just below. A scorched scent, mixed with a bizarrely savory aroma of cooked meat, wafted up from under the soil.
“Paralyze us with pollen, and then let the mutant moles eat us when our guard is down?” Nina looked at Leo coldly. The man was truly malicious.
“No! How did you find out? It’s impossible for you to have known!” Leo had believed his tactics were flawless. Until now, no matter how powerful a Superpower User was, not a single one had ever escaped his Peldon.
“There should still be plenty of supplies in this village, shouldn’t there?” Nina ignored his shock, offering him a cheerful smile instead. “Don’t worry. Once we’ve killed everyone here, we won’t let your supplies go to waste.”
“In your dreams!” Leo’s Superpower flared violently around his body, but in the very next second, he was impaled by the Blood Vines. His blood was entirely drained by the parasitic plants, and he stared at his punctured abdomen with eyes full of utter resentment.
“How tragic. Are you satisfied with the performance of us do-gooders?” There was not a shred of pity in Nina’s eyes.
She waited until the last drop of blood was drained from Leo’s body before turning her expressionless gaze toward the “villagers” whom Wayne Warner had already locked inside a Thunder Cage.
“Spare us! Have mercy, we’re all innocent!” a man trapped in the Thunder Cage cried out. Immediately, the others began pleading for their lives as well.
Nina ignored them. Instead, she led Shirley and Hartley toward the building that still had smoke billowing from its chimney. Seeing this, the people in the Thunder Cage simultaneously cast guilty, panicked glances at one another.
Half an hour later, the group emerged. Shirley leaned against the wall, retching violently, while Hartley’s face was contorted with pure rage. Even Holden Shaw, who was never one to flinch at bloodshed, wore a dark, grim expression.
“It was all Leo Langley and his men! We had no choice but to listen to him! It was entirely their idea; we had nothing to do with what’s inside!” one of the prisoners in the Thunder Cage hastily explained, seemingly having guessed what they found.
“Yes! And all of that was just used to feed the mutant moles! It was just animal feed…”
“We are innocent villagers, please, let us go!”
“Innocent?” Holden interrogated sharply. “Do you dare claim you didn’t eat any of it?”
Why would anyone need spices and seasonings if it was just feed for Mutated Animals? What he and Nina had just witnessed was clearly a gruesome slaughterhouse. Inside, corpses were frozen and systematically butchered.
One person answered guiltily, “At first, it really was just used to feed the animals. But later, s-someone couldn’t resist the hunger, and…”
“Shut up! Stop talking!” another interrupted frantically. “We beg you, brave heroes, let us go! We’ll never do it again!”
The crowd thought Nina was hesitating. But then she spoke.
“Leave no one alive.”
Those few simple words sealed their fates.
Over an hour later, Sylvia Shawn and the rest of the team, who were still waiting outside inside the sand shield, finally saw Nina’s group walk out. Seeing that none of them were injured, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. However, as the gates opened, they also caught sight of the village blazing furiously in the background.
“It looks like our Captain Jacobs is a bit angry,” Julian Wells remarked, watching Nina stride toward them.
