That guy must be worried about her too. She’d just go get checked; then Ah Jiu would definitely tell him the result. Once he knew she was fine, he could focus on his work.

"Why don’t we just let him come along?" Xu Xia lifted her face to look at Ah Jiu. "The kid’s getting stir-crazy."

"All right then." Looking at the little guy staring at him with those eager eyes, Ah Jiu couldn’t bring himself to say no. "But we’re only going to the hospital. Once we’re done, we’re coming straight back—no wandering around."

"Mm!" The little guy immediately broke into a happy grin. "I promise I won’t run all over the place. I’ll stay by Godmother’s side the whole time."

"Good boy." Xu Xia rubbed his hair tenderly. "You have to protect Godmother, okay? Otherwise I’ll be scared of the doctors."

"Don’t worry." The little guy agreed without hesitation.

So everyone made simple preparations and drove off toward the hospital.

Considering Xu Xia’s situation, Ah Jiu had deliberately found a very famous major hospital in Roma City.

In the woods not far from an estate on the outskirts of the city, a girl in a black T-shirt and camo pants darted out from between the trees. She raised the latest model sniper rifle in her hands and slowly took aim at a target deeper in the forest.

The bullet left the barrel, and the distant target toppled over on impact.

Oversized sunglasses covered most of her face, and her long hair was tied back in a neat ponytail, giving her a crisp, capable look.

Suddenly someone burst out of the woods behind her, lunging straight at her.

Following through with the motion, she slammed forward, pinning his neck with her elbow as her other hand swiftly drew a knife from her boot and pressed it to his throat, tracing a shallow imaginary cut.

"You’re dead!"

She got to her feet, snatched up the gun from the ground, and kept charging into the forest.

A hand suddenly shot out from behind a big tree, grabbing her gun, and then a tall man’s figure sprang out from behind the trunk, seizing her arm.

Caught off guard, the girl had her gun wrested away. She twisted, slipping past his reaching hand, and snapped her leg up in a kick. A stone on the ground, with blades of grass clinging to it, was sent flying by her boot, slamming toward the man’s face.
