Chapter 2312: Chapter 588: The Eighteen Warlords Against Dong, Unrest in the Invincible Fleet
After he finished, Huang Kaiwen put down the mic and got up to leave.
Back to the locker room.
Clap clap clap—
The players immediately gave him a round of applause.
That final scene today where Huang Kaiwen handed Krul the cheat sheet was just god-tier.
Just like Krul himself said, he actually should’ve saved three penalties.
He almost got Ashley Cole’s kick.
With a move like that, there isn’t a single player in the Netherlands who doesn’t buy into him.
Fuck.
Not even going on the pitch himself and he can still figure out where their penalties are going.
All these guys have taken penalties before; they know exactly how messed up your head is when you’re on the spot.
Huang Kaiwen’s grip on human nature is way too strong, and he put in a ton of work.
Otherwise there’s no way he could make such accurate reads.
Huang Kaiwen grinned and said, "Winning’s everyone’s credit. We’ll still take a rest day tomorrow, then we’ll properly prepare for the final."
Doing extra training at this point wouldn’t help much.
It’s better to have the right balance of tension and relaxation.
When the group was walking toward the bus, Gattuso and the others came back with Tassotti.
Huang Kaiwen pulled Tassotti over and asked, "What happened?"
"Just a small hiccup. Capello and the Poles teamed up, so I took them for a little spin around Warsaw."
Tassotti said with a laugh.
As Ancelotti’s assistant, his relationship with Capello isn’t exactly great either.
Huang Kaiwen patted Tassotti’s arm and said, "As long as you’re fine. Come on, let’s head back and celebrate a bit."
Back at the hotel, he saw the Dutch Royal Family.
Huang Kaiwen was a bit annoyed.
He understood the royal family needs exposure.
But this should’ve been the time for the players to let themselves go and act crazy—then you lot show up to stick your oar in, and the boys can’t really cut loose and celebrate.
After eating a bit at night, Huang Kaiwen went back to his room.
Seeing the shopping bags all over the suite, Huang Kaiwen said, half crying half laughing, "Did you rob Warsaw’s shopping malls or something?"
"You’re awful!"
Lily rolled her eyes and said, "I was a bit nervous before the match, so I bought some stuff."
"Some?"
Huang Kaiwen asked.
"Some!"
Lily giggled and said, "Oh right, Barbara got you some new clothes for the final. Neo sent them over."
"Alright then."
Huang Kaiwen said.
He had no objections to that.
Anyway, the rich girl’s taste is pretty good.
Lily asked curiously, "How come you didn’t stay and celebrate reaching the final with the players today?"
"The Dutch Royal Family showed up. Everyone was holding back, so I came back first."
Huang Kaiwen said.
"Then why don’t we be the ones to let loose?"
Lily pulled a little scrap of cloth out of a shopping bag and asked in a sweet, teasing voice.
Huang Kaiwen just laughed, waved her off, and walked toward the bathroom.
This girl Lily only knows how to start fires, never how to put them out.
After his shower, Huang Kaiwen sat on the sofa watching TV.
Lily quickly snuggled into his arms.
Lately the TV is wall-to-wall European Cup news.
Huang Kaiwen dug up the old movie "Mousehunt" and watched it with Lily.
The movie is actually pretty funny.
Later that night, he couldn’t withstand Lily’s pleading, and the Yellow Ball King once again cruised to an easy win.
The next morning, Huang Kaiwen got up early; as soon as he stepped out the door, he saw Gagliani waiting nearby.
"Come on, let’s grab breakfast together."
Huang Kaiwen called out.
Gagliani immediately fell in step and said, "Xili regrets it. They want to sponsor the Netherlands team again now."
"Tell them to fuck off."
Huang Kaiwen said flatly.
When the Netherlands team was in a bad way, they were the ones running around stirring shit up.
And they’re a Netherlands company, too.
"That’s what I was thinking as well."
Gagliani said with a grin.
He followed Huang Kaiwen into the elevator.
When the two of them got to the restaurant, they saw there weren’t many people.
Only Luke De Jong was sitting there eating.
Huang Kaiwen walked over and greeted him with a smile, "Morning, Luke."
"Morning, coach!"
Luke De Jong stood up and said.
"It’s fine, sit and eat. I’m just going to talk business with Mr. Gagliani."
Huang Kaiwen waved him back down.
Gagliani set the newspaper on the table, went with Huang Kaiwen to get breakfast, then came back to their seats.
The old guy’s too seasoned!
Gagliani’s breakfast was identical to his.
Huang Kaiwen was sure this bastard’s tastes are nothing like his.
As soon as they sat, Gagliani said, "I couldn’t convince Gullit. I didn’t get that part done."
But Huang Kaiwen heard the subtext in Gagliani’s words.
Bringing up Gullit inevitably involves Rijkaard—that means he did manage to sway Basten.
This old fox Gagliani wasn’t here to admit fault; he was here to fish for praise.
Huang Kaiwen casually picked up the newspaper.
His eyes immediately went wide.
He’d known Gagliani is reliable, but he hadn’t expected him to be this reliable.
The front page of today’s "Milan Sports Newspaper" was all quotes from Dutch people.
The first was Ajax head coach Frank de Boer. De Boer said, "Rijkaard doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing. He has no right to judge Kevin’s coaching ability; it’s as ridiculous as a grade-schooler trying to teach Einstein physics."
Huang Kaiwen tapped De Boer’s name with a smile and asked, "I fired his brother and made Leonard de Boer carry a huge black pot for me. How come he’s speaking up for me?"
Gagliani chuckled along and said, "Maybe he’s just a patriot and really admires you."
Huang Kaiwen smiled and pointed at Gagliani.
This crafty old brat really has his ways!
Huang Kaiwen kept reading.
Twente head coach Michael Jansen said, "With Rijkaard jumping out at such a crucial moment to sing a different tune, maybe he just doesn’t want the Netherlands team to win."
Eindhoven head coach Advocaat said, "Rijkaard’s coaching ability has been wildly overrated. It was Mr. Cruyff’s system and Barca’s success. His record after leaving Barca proves he’s not some top-tier coach."
