Chapter 319: Chapter 316: Hubby, Get Me My Panties
"Aren’t you coming back with me?" Li Weiya asked, looking up at her son.
"Uh..."
As if he’d expected his mom to ask, Wang Ming calmly replied, "The house has been empty for so long, I should go back early to clean it, right? I also need to buy some things for the New Year. Otherwise, if we both wait until New Year’s Eve to go back, we won’t even be able to celebrate."
"That’s true." Li Weiya nodded, accepting his reasoning.
She definitely couldn’t get away anytime soon, so her only option was to let her son go back.
"Alright, then. When are you planning to go back?"
"A flight tomorrow at noon." Seeing his mom’s suspicious gaze, Wang Ming quickly added, "I was only able to get a ticket for tomorrow."
Li Weiya frowned slightly. She felt like her son had this planned all along, but it was true that someone needed to go back and clean the house.
"I have a meeting with the editor-in-chief of the CCTV Children’s Channel early tomorrow morning, so I won’t be able to see you off. You’ll be alright getting back on your own?"
"No problem, no problem." Wang Ming nodded his head rapidly, overjoyed. ’Mom agreed so easily!’
"Don’t worry, Godmother. I’ll go see Ah Ming off," Jiang Xia said with a smile.
"That would be good."
After dinner, Wang Ming started packing his luggage while Li Weiya gave him instructions on things to take care of at home. Meanwhile, Jiang Xia, the resident househusband, took on the duty of washing the pots and pans.
Lin Yanwan tried to come and help, but he firmly shooed her out.
Once the kitchen was clean, Jiang Xia went to Old Wang’s room and gently closed the door.
"In such a rush to go back... is it to see Shen Ying?" he asked with a smile.
With just him there, Wang Ming dropped the act and nodded frankly. "Shen Ying started her break on the 24th of last month. She’s been staying in the main city district of Yu Du and hasn’t gone home. A few days ago, she even told me she was thinking of coming here to the Imperial Capital to see the company. I told her there was no need—the Spring Festival travel rush makes it hard to get tickets, and the company is about to close for the holidays anyway."
"She’s all alone over there, so it must be pretty lonely."
Jiang Xia sighed. He hardly ever contacted Shen Ying himself; only Lin Yanwan still chatted with her often. But those were private talks between best friends, and he had no idea what they discussed.
As for work, Shen Ying had always coordinated directly with Li Weiya. She was in charge of online operations, and the accounts on several social media platforms were doing well. In particular, the Weibo account, which had only been launched a short time ago, already had over a hundred thousand followers.
"Old Jiang, I’m planning to go back secretly and give her a surprise. Do you think she’ll be happy?"
Jiang Xia looked over and saw a light shining in Wang Ming’s eyes. It was clear he couldn’t wait. If Wanzhou and the Imperial Capital weren’t a world apart, he probably would have wanted to take a bus back overnight.
"I’m sure she will," he said with a smile.
He sincerely hoped that Old Wang and Shen Ying would get together. From the looks of it now, the chances were high.
"As far as I know, Shen Ying pours almost all her energy into her studies and hardly ever interacts with other guys. The probability of her liking someone at school is pretty low."
A look of delight appeared in Wang Ming’s eyes. "Did Yanwan tell you that?"
"Mhm."
Jiang Xia nodded, patting his good friend on the shoulder with a smile. "So, Old Wang, go for it. Pursue her boldly when you go back this time. After a semester to settle in, you both have a much clearer view of the future. Don’t leave yourself with any regrets."
"Yeah."
Wang Ming nodded emphatically. He had grown a lot in the past six months, especially after the incident with Zhang Yuanyuan. He had become more mature and was no longer the young boy who would blush just from talking to a girl.
He now possessed a reserved and steady demeanor that many his age lacked.
At nine o’clock that night, the couple said goodbye to Li Weiya and returned to their rented apartment.
While Lin Yanwan was in the shower, Jiang Xia received another call from home.
"Xiaxia, what are you up to?" Xia Shanshan’s voice came through the phone.
"Just reading, Mom. You and Dad aren’t asleep yet?" Jiang Xia replied casually.
"We’re in bed watching TV. Since it’s almost the New Year, I thought I’d call and ask when you’re planning to come home. We’ve already made your favorite sausages, and we’ve prepared lots of cured pork and ribs, too. We’re just waiting for you to come back and eat."
A warm feeling washed over Jiang Xia’s heart. When you were away from home, your parents were always the ones who worried about you the most.
"Don’t worry, Mom, I’ll definitely be back before the New Year," he said with a laugh.
"But that’s only a few days away."
Xia Shanshan sighed softly. Her son had left home for his studies, and logically, she and her husband should have gotten used to it by now. But seeing other people’s children leaving school and returning home for happy family reunions made their longing for their own son even stronger than before.
With one person missing from the house, it always felt like some of the life was gone.
"How were your final exams?"
"They were alright. My GPA was 3.68 out of a 4.0."
Hearing this, Xia Shanshan was instantly relieved. She had heard countless stories of top students who went completely wild after getting into university. There was even the case of a genius who was his province’s top scorer, getting into Tsinghua at just fourteen, only to end up holing himself up in his dorm playing games all day, never going to class. His grades plummeted, and he was eventually expelled.
It seemed her son was still one of the most outstanding students.
"And Yanwan?"
"Her grades are even better than mine. A 3.73 GPA. She’s a true top student."
The thought made Jiang Xia feel a wave of helplessness. He’d been careless, and now he was stuck hugging his wife every night, only able to cuddle and touch without being able to take that final step.
The two boxes of condoms his mother-in-law and his own mom had given them were still sitting in the nightstand drawer, their outer wrapping still intact.
"You’re not bad either," Xia Shanshan chuckled. "How are you two doing now?"
"Um... we’re doing great. We’re busy with our own things during class, we eat lunch together, and when I have time, I’ll even go audit her classes," Jiang Xia said.
Hearing this, the old couple exchanged a look, the weight of worry lifting from their shoulders. It seemed the two’s relationship was as strong as ever.
"It seems Yanwan hasn’t gone home either, right? Will you two be coming back together then?"
"Mhm, that’s right. We’ve already bought the tickets. We’ll come back together."
"Give us a call before you leave, and your dad will come pick you up from the airport."
"Okay."
But just then, Lin Yanwan suddenly opened the bathroom door. Over the RUSHING sound of the water, she looked at Jiang Xia and shouted, "Hubby, can you grab me a pair of panties?"
Jiang Xia froze.
He turned to look at Lin Yanwan, pointed at his phone, then silently mouthed two words: *My mom!*
"Xiaxia, what was that sound? It sounded like a girl’s voice. Was that Yanwan?" Xia Shanshan asked.
"No, Mom. My dorm is really close to the girls’ dorm, and I’m on the second floor. A girl must have just walked past downstairs while talking," Jiang Xia explained, forcing himself to come up with an excuse.
The old couple exchanged a look, their faces full of disbelief. They had clearly heard the word "Hubby."
’That boy is definitely lying again!’
