After the Divorce, My Wife and I Were Both Reborn
Chapter 392: Bringing Girlfriend Home
Chapter 392 -387: Bringing Girlfriend Home
“Can you please explain to me what this is?”
Shen Ying’s face flushed as she picked up the small, pink, square packet and held it in front of him. She was so angry she was grinding her teeth. ‘He actually carries this stuff around? Does he really think I’m that kind of easy girl?’
‘No wonder he was probing, trying to get into my bed bit by bit. So he just wanted to sleep with me. He’s probably been plotting this for ages.’
Wang Ming was dumbfounded too. Staring at the condom, he stammered, “I-I-I… I don’t know.”
“It fell out of your pocket, and you’re telling me you don’t know?” Shen Ying raised an eyebrow slightly.
Old Wang shook his head forcefully. “I really don’t know. I only bought flowers downstairs, not this thing.”
He suddenly remembered his mom helping him with his clothes when he left that morning. ‘Could she have slipped it in my pocket when I wasn’t looking?’
“Then how did this get in your pocket?”
Wang Ming scratched his head and said, a little uncertainly, “My mom might have secretly put it there.”
“Huh? Your mom?”
At that, Shen Ying’s eyes widened, and her face grew red. “Why would your mom…”
‘Does she really see me as her future daughter-in-law already?’
“Ever since I was little, my mom has never interfered much with my life,” Wang Ming said after a moment of thought. “Now that she knows we’re dating, she’s probably worried we might not have self-control and taste the Forbidden Fruit. With this, it’s harder for accidents to happen.”
Shen Ying was rendered a little speechless. ‘His mom really did think of everything. As expected of someone with more experience; she knows way more than us youngsters.’
“Dork,” she said earnestly, “I’m a pretty traditional girl. I’m okay with kissing and hugging, but as for… that… I hope you won’t push me. At least, I’m not ready yet.”
“Me too,” Wang Ming said, looking into her eyes with utmost sincerity. “I’m content just being able to hold your hand. Hugging you is an unexpected bonus. I haven’t thought about anything more.”
Shen Ying wrinkled her nose. ‘This was the dork she remembered—not good with words, often blushing, and sometimes like a block of wood when it came to romance.’
“Hmph. I hope you stick to that. I’m getting up to wash up. You can stay in bed.”
She let out a soft huff, not wanting to discuss the topic any further. ‘After all, that’s my most precious possession; I’m not going to just give it away so easily.’
Wang Ming looked helplessly at the condom she’d tossed onto the bed and sighed softly. ‘Mom, what a great ‘assist’. It’s a good thing I explained everything in time. If she’d misunderstood, Shen Ying probably would have ignored me for a long time.’
A while later, Shen Ying finished washing up and came out of the bathroom. She had changed into another outfit: classic jeans and a T-shirt, with her hair in a high ponytail. She looked youthful and lively.
“Ying, want to get some breakfast?” Wang Ming asked.
“Yeah, I’m a little hungry. What’s good for breakfast in the Imperial Capital?”
“Braised pork offal stew with flatbread?”
“What’s that? Braised meat?”
“Um… it’s braised pig’s large intestines, small intestines, and lungs, with stuff like tofu skin and glass noodles.”
“Eww, no. That sounds disgusting.”
Wang Ming thought for a moment. People said the Imperial Capital was a culinary wasteland. The other distinct local dishes, like stir-fried liver, lamb offal soup, or fermented mung bean milk… Shen Ying probably wouldn’t like those either.
“How about steamed buns, fried dough sticks, or noodles? Or savory tofu pudding or a savory crepe?”
“Let’s go look around first?”
Wang Ming nodded lightly.
Afterward, the two took the elevator downstairs, left the hotel, and browsed the breakfast shops in the area. In the end, they settled on a more palatable option: old Imperial Capital-style noodles with soybean paste.
After breakfast, Wang Ming took Shen Ying to see the Great Wall. The two of them snacked and strolled along the way, leaving their happy footprints in many places.
◇
Li Weiya got off work early today. She went to the market and bought a load of groceries, planning to cook a grand meal at home to welcome her future daughter-in-law.
“Ah Xia, after you and Yanwan get off work today, remember to come to my house for dinner.”
“You got it,” Jiang Xia said with a laugh over the phone. “Godmother, are Ah Ming and Shen Ying coming too?”
“If that brat can’t bring Shen Ying back, just watch me teach him a lesson.”
Li Weiya chuckled and said, “Alright, that’s all. Remember to come over with Yanwan after work. Don’t you forget now.”
After hanging up, Jiang Xia shook his head and chuckled. ‘His godmother was finally getting a taste of what it’s like to be a mother-in-law. Her reaction was exactly like his own mom’s.’
He opened QQ and sent a message to Wang Ming: “Old Wang, Godmother says to bring Shen Ying home for dinner tonight. If you can’t, she’ll skin you alive.”
A long time passed after he sent the message, but there was no reply. It seemed the two were having a blast.
At the Great Wall, Shen Ying stood on a beacon tower, looking out at the magnificent vista. The verdant mountains stretched out like a sea, and the Great Wall was like a giant dragon winding through the high peaks and ridges.
Her eyes filled with excitement. As the saying goes, “He who has not been to the Great Wall is not a true hero.” Today, she had climbed Hero’s Slope, fulfilling a long-held wish.
Wang Ming found a good angle and took a beautiful picture of Shen Ying. She turned her head, looking at her boyfriend with a beaming smile. “Dork, come over here. Let’s take one together.”
Wang Ming immediately scurried over and opened his phone’s front camera. He held up a peace sign, while Shen Ying secretly leaned in close to his cheek. The image was captured, an intimate photo of the two with the Great Wall and mountains as their background.
“Are you tired?” he asked, handing her a bottle of mineral water.
“Phew, a little,” Shen Ying said, wiping the sweat from her face. She took the water and drank it down in big gulps without hesitation.
July in the Imperial Capital is sweltering, with average temperatures over 30 degrees. Even though it happened to be an overcast day, climbing for several hours had left them completely drained.
“Do you want to keep exploring or head back?” Wang Ming asked.
Shen Ying glanced at the time. It was already almost four in the afternoon. They had already visited all the famous spots on this section of the Badaling Great Wall, and Wang Ming’s phone gallery was full of photos of the two of them.
“Let’s go back,” she said.
‘We’ve had enough fun for today anyway,’ she thought. ‘When you’re with the person you like, you’re happy no matter what you’re doing.’
“Ying, my mom wants us to come home for dinner tonight,” Wang Ming said, pursing his lips.
A moment earlier, Li Weiya had called him, telling him he had to bring Shen Ying home no matter what.
“Home…?” Shen Ying was stunned.
“Yeah, my mom made dinner at home and wants us to come back together.”
“But, didn’t we agree to get together with Jiang Xia and Yanwan today?”
“They’re coming too,” Wang Ming said with a smile. “Since you came all the way to the Imperial Capital, everyone wants to give you a proper welcome.”
‘Shen Ying didn’t believe that for a second. It was obvious his mom—her future mother-in-law—wanted to meet her. The fact that she was cooking dinner at home herself just showed how much importance she placed on the visit.’
‘Thinking about it that way, she ought to be happy.’
“Then… I should go buy a gift for your mom!”
Shen Ying said, her face flushing with shyness.
