Chapter 427: Chapter 417: Xia Shanshan Wants a Grandchild (Part 2)
"Mom, there’s no rush. There’s still plenty of time. Let’s talk about it again when she’s in sixth grade."
"That’s true."
That evening, the private chef Jiang Xia had hired finished preparing dinner. Xia Shanshan had originally wanted to cook herself, but Jiang Xia sternly refused. His mother had finally managed to get a vacation and come all the way to the Imperial Capital to relax; how could he let her do chores like she used to?
As her son, he was the first to protest.
"And you say you haven’t let success get to your head. You have someone cooking for you every day. Are you planning to hire a housekeeper, too?" Xia Shanshan muttered under her breath.
"Mom, you’ve got it all wrong. Yanwan and I usually eat out with her godmother and the others. This chef is just temporary. He normally takes on freelance cooking jobs and goes home as soon as he’s finished. I just signed a two-month contract with Master Zhang. That way, you won’t have to cook during the summer vacation. He can make any style of cuisine, so just tell him what you’re in the mood for. I guarantee the dishes will be different every day. Just relax and enjoy."
As for a housekeeper, once their parents went home, he and Lin Yanwan would be living in this huge villa by themselves. They’d be exhausted just from the daily cleaning. Hiring one was a must.
"Alright, alright, I get it. You want to wait on me hand and foot like I’m the Empress Dowager. You little rascal, you sure know how to enjoy life," Xia Shanshan chided with a laugh.
"Hehe, it’s just that your son has earned a bit of money and wants you all to live a life of leisure."
"Forget a life of leisure, when are you going to give me a grandchild to hold?" Xia Shanshan said, secretly glancing at her increasingly beautiful daughter-in-law in the pool. She was growing more and more fond of her.
She had always thought Yanwan would bring her husband good fortune, and now it seemed she was absolutely right.
Jiang Xia said resignedly, "Mom, what are you saying? Yanwan and I are still in university. Do you expect her to go to class with a baby bump? Is that how a teacher and a mother-in-law should act?"
Xia Shanshan flushed with embarrassment. The two of them had started dating, living together, and working so early on that she’d actually forgotten they were still in school.
Strictly speaking, according to the national marriage laws, the two of them couldn’t even get married yet. A pregnancy before marriage would lead to gossip. Worse, it would be bad for the company’s image.
"Ahem, what I mean is, after you two graduate from university, you should get married, right?"
"Mm, I guess so..."
Their quiet words drifted on the breeze to Lin Yanwan’s ears. She secretly listened to the conversation between her husband and mother-in-law, though she didn’t dare make it obvious she was eavesdropping.
’I can’t believe it...’
’My mother-in-law is already thinking about having grandchildren?’
She couldn’t help but glance down at her flat stomach, hoping she’d be able to live up to expectations in this life.
’Maybe...’
’Maybe we could try it without protection tonight?’
Her face began to burn inexplicably as she thought about those intimate scenarios.
"Yanwan, Xiao Man, it’s time for dinner," Jiang Xia shouted to the two in the pool.
"Okay! We’re comin’, we’re comin’~" Xiao Man replied happily, her voice booming.
Jiang Xia handed a waiting bath towel to his wife, then grabbed another for Xiao Man to dry her hair with. He smiled. "So, Xiao Man, was swimming fun?"
"Uh-huh! It was super fun! I wanna go again tomorrow!" his sister-in-law nodded emphatically, her eyes shining with pure happiness.
"Anytime is fine, as long as you don’t catch a cold. This summer vacation, have your sister teach you how to swim."
"That’s what my sister said, too~"
"Alright, now that you’re dry, go back to the room with your mom and change. Remember to take a quick hot shower in the bathroom before you change."
"I know, Brother-in-law."
Once his sister-in-law had taken his mother-in-law’s hand and headed back to her room, Jiang Xia finally turned his full attention to his wife, carefully drying her off with a towel.
"What were you and Mom talking about just now?" Lin Yanwan asked, feigning ignorance.
"You might not believe this, but she actually wants to have a grandchild. I told her we’re still in school and you can’t exactly go to class with a baby bump, and that shut her up," Jiang Xia chuckled.
Lin Yanwan blushed. ’I want a child, too,’ she thought.
Jiang Xia suddenly pulled her into a hug, pressing his forehead against hers and nuzzling her nose with his. He whispered, "Honey, what do you say we get married as soon as we graduate?"
"Mhm."
A blissful smile bloomed on Lin Yanwan’s face. She nodded gently, and after a quick glance around to confirm they were alone, she puckered her lips and softly kissed him.
"Oh? Getting bold now, are we? Not afraid of our parents finding out?" Jiang Xia said with a laugh.
Lin Yanwan’s lips curved slightly. "They’re not here right now."
"Then how about another? A proper one."
"No, not here. We can kiss in our room."
’Our parents could come out at any moment. I’m not bold enough to be passionately kissing Jiang Xia by the pool.’
"Then let’s change first, and then eat."
Wrapped in a bath towel, Lin Yanwan went back to the second-floor bedroom with him. The moment the door closed, Jiang Xia pinned her hands, pressed her forcefully against the door, and began kissing her with abandon.
After a long while, he finally released his wife’s slightly swollen lips.
"Just collecting a little interest. Tonight, I’ll claim the full endowment," Jiang Xia said, tipping her chin up.
Lin Yanwan wrinkled her nose, bit his finger, and mumbled, "Hmph, I’ll drain you dry."
"You’d better make good on that promise."
Jiang Xia was incredibly smug. At twenty years old, his body wasn’t afraid of any challenge.
After changing into clean clothes, the two went downstairs and saw that everyone else was already seated, just waiting for them.
"Dad, Mom, from now on, please eat first. You don’t have to wait for us," Jiang Xia said.
For today’s meal, Master Zhang had prepared Sichuan cuisine. He knew President Jiang was from Yu Du, so he had made a special spread of hearty, local-style dishes to welcome his parents, hoping they would have an enjoyable meal on their first day in the Imperial Capital.
"Dad, would you like a drink? I have some baijiu and some red wine. Both are top-shelf," Jiang Xia asked.
He knew his old man liked to have a drink when he wasn’t driving.
Jiang Wende shook his head. "No, thanks. I’ve quit. I don’t drink anymore."
"Quitting is good. Then have some juice."
Lin Yanwan got a pitcher of freshly squeezed juice from the refrigerator and filled everyone’s glasses. Jiang Xia picked up a slice of poached pork in chili oil for his sister-in-law, asking with a grin, "Xiao Man, where do you want to go and play tomorrow?"
"The Great Wall!" his sister-in-law said without hesitation. "And the Forbidden City."
"We’ll visit one attraction a day. We have plenty of time to take it slow. Anyway, this summer vacation, I’ll definitely make sure you have a great time. How about we set a goal to tour the entire Imperial Capital?"
"Hehehe, thank you, Brother-in-law! You’re the best!"
"Xiaxia, don’t spoil Xiao Man too much, or you’ll spoil her rotten," Ji Wanqiu said with a gentle smile.
"Mom, it’s fine. Xiao Man is a sensible girl. Didn’t you also say that she got first place in the whole school this semester? She deserves a good reward."
"That’s all because Teacher Xia is a good teacher."
Ji Wanqiu smoothly passed the credit to Xia Shanshan, who couldn’t help but chuckle. "I only teach her language arts. Her math and English have nothing to do with me. In my opinion, Xiao Man is just naturally bright. She picks things up quickly."
"Yep, yep! I’m just a little dumber than my big sister," the little girl chimed in, nodding smugly.
Seeing that she knew how to be humble at such a young age, everyone couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
The dinner party was filled with lively conversation and laughter, a truly harmonious meal.
After dinner, while it was still light out, Xia Shanshan and Ji Wanqiu went out for a walk to see the scenery in the park.
Jiang Wende also went out for a stroll by himself. In his words, he was going to look for a good fishing spot nearby so he wouldn’t be too bored for the next two months.
Jiang Xia promised to find time to take him to a fish farm in the suburbs where he could fish to his heart’s content.
Meanwhile, his sister-in-law followed the couple up to the third-floor gaming room to use the computer. Jiang Xia wouldn’t let her play games, so he logged into his D Station account and put on a cartoon for her. The little girl sat there on the chair all by herself, completely engrossed in watching Pokemon.
