Chapter 93: Here’s Today’s Kiss
Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Here’s Today’s Kiss
The sisters were walking down the street, holding hands. A moment later, a taxi pulled over to the side of the road and honked.
Lin Yanwan instinctively turned to look, only to realize the license plate looked a little familiar.
’Wait, it can’t be...’
Her heart jumped.
Then she saw Jiang Wende roll down the window and say, "I thought I was mistaken, but it really is you two."
"Hello, Uncle Jiang," Lin Yanwan said at once, respectfully, though she sighed inwardly.
’What kind of day is this? First, I run into my mother-in-law, and now I bump into my father-in-law.’
’No, I can’t say I bumped into him. After all, he was the one who recognized us first.’
"Hello, Yanwan. Are you two heading home? Get in, I’ll give you a ride," Jiang Wende said with a cheerful smile.
She figured refusing might be a bad idea; it could even lower her standing in her future father-in-law’s eyes. ’Besides,’ she thought, ’I’ve already accepted so many rides from him. What’s one more?’ So, she gave a small nod and pulled her sister into the car.
Jiang Wende glanced at the rearview mirror and saw a very cute schoolbag sitting in the middle of the back seat.
Although he rarely asked about his son’s love life, he was lucky to have a wife who was a teacher—and Lin Xiaoman’s homeroom teacher at that. He heard more than a few things from her.
For example, that kid of his often picked up his little sister-in-law from school with his daughter-in-law.
But it was strange that he didn’t see him today.
"Did Xiao Man just get out of school?" Jiang Wende asked casually.
"Mhm! My sister came just to pick me up. It’s a shame Brother Jiang Xia couldn’t make it, but my sister said he’s waiting for me at home, hee hee. Uncle Jiang, how did you spot us?" Xiao Man asked innocently.
Lin Yanwan buried her face in her hands, her lips twitching. ’I should have just made up some excuse,’ she thought. ’I definitely shouldn’t have dragged Xiao Man into this car.’
Jiang Wende nodded impassively. ’So now I finally know where that kid is,’ he thought. ’He’s at his daughter-in-law’s place.’
’A grown man, running over to a girl’s house every day... what a bad impression that would make if her parents saw.’
"I made a U-turn at that intersection and thought the two of you looked familiar from behind. I followed for a bit just to be sure."
"Oh! You have great eyes, Uncle!" Lin Xiaoman nodded emphatically.
A few minutes later, the taxi stopped at the Brocade Splendor Community. Feeling it wasn’t right to get a free ride, Lin Yanwan took out ten yuan to hand to him, but Jiang Wende flatly refused.
’Are you kidding me? How could I take money from my own daughter-in-law?’
’If my wife found out, she’d make me sleep on the sofa tonight.’
"Xiao Man, hurry and thank Uncle Jiang." She pulled Xiao Man out of the car, using her little sister as a shield.
"Thank you, Uncle Jiang," said Xiao Man.
"You’re welcome. Come visit our home sometime," Jiang Wende said with a smile.
Though he said it casually, she took it to heart. Lin Yanwan blushed faintly. ’Why have both his parents said the same thing to me?’ she wondered. ’Don’t tell me they talked to each other just now and shared intel...’
"Goodbye, Uncle Jiang! Teacher Xia said the exact same thing earlier, you know," Xiao Man said, waving.
Lin Yanwan: "..."
Jiang Wende paused for a second, then chuckled. "Is that so? Well then, you should definitely visit more often. I promise I won’t let Teacher Xia give you any extra homework."
"Really?! Yay!" Lin Xiaoman jumped for joy.
’As long as there’s no homework, I’d go to my brother-in-law’s house even if it were a dragon’s lair or a tiger’s den!’
Lin Yanwan quickly pulled her sister back. ’If I let her keep talking, who knows what else she’ll say. It’ll be so embarrassing if she blurts out that we were kissing.’
"Uncle Jiang, we won’t keep you. We’re going to head inside now."
"Okay, Yanwan. Could you please tell Jiang Xia that I’ll be here at 5:30 to pick him up for dinner?"
"...Okay." She nodded stiffly.
’If a hole opened up in the ground right now, I’d jump in and never come out.’
Watching the taxi drive away, Lin Yanwan grabbed her sister’s cheeks and started pinching them.
"Owww, Sis, that hurts."
"I’m just improving your circulation. Just bear with it, Xiao Man, it’ll stop hurting in a second," she said, her face completely deadpan.
"But you look so scary right now, Sis! I want to go home and find my brother-in-law! Oww... Brother-in-law is the nicest to me, he’d never be this rough!"
"He’s my husb... Never mind."
Lin Yanwan suddenly sighed. She gently rubbed her sister’s cheek with her palm. ’She’s just a child, after all,’ she thought. ’What does she really know?’
As soon as they got home, Xiao Man started shouting, "Brother-in-law! Brother-in-law!" But the living room was empty, and her sister’s bedroom door was locked.
Lin Yanwan took out her key and opened the door. "Stop shouting," she said with a sigh. "I’m letting your brother-in-law out."
Jiang Xia had already put down his pencil and was waiting. The moment the door opened, he scooped up his little sister-in-law and booped her on the nose.
"How come you’re back so early today, Xiao Man?"
"My sister and I ran into Uncle Jiang on the way home! He’s the one who drove us back," she said, her chin tilted up proudly.
He shot a confused look at his girlfriend, who just nodded with a sigh of resignation.
"He also said he’s coming here at 5:30 to pick you up for dinner."
"How did my dad know?" Jiang Xia was at a loss for words.
Lin Yanwan ruffled Xiao Man’s hair in exasperation. "Your little sister-in-law, of course."
"And how did Xiao Man know?" Jiang Xia asked.
"My sister told me! Hee hee." Lin Xiaoman pointed a finger at her older sister.
Lin Yanwan: "..."
’So, when all’s said and done, this is still my fault?’
"Brother-in-law, after I finish my homework today, can I watch the newest episode of *Cat and Mouse*?"
"Not just yet, maybe in a few more days," Jiang Xia said with a gentle laugh. "Go on and do your homework. You can play with Yuyuan after you’re finished. Do you like Yuyuan, Xiao Man?"
"I love Yuyuan! My sister said you’re the one who caught it, right?"
"Who caught it isn’t important. What matters is that your sister likes it. Now, go on, time for homework."
"Okay~"
Once her sister was back in her room, Lin Yanwan quickly shut the door, tilted her head up to look at him, and huffed softly. "Hey, I want a hug too."
"Oh? And how about I throw in a free kiss?" Jiang Xia couldn’t help but laugh, gently pulling her into his arms and resting his chin lightly on her head.
’A huffy, jealous girlfriend is his absolute favorite!’
"In your dreams."
Lin Yanwan pressed her ear against his chest, closing her eyes and listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
"How much have you finished?"
"I should be able to finish the storyboards the day after tomorrow," Jiang Xia estimated. "Then I’ll help Old Wang with some of the keyframes. We should be able to turn it in before the 25th."
"Okay, but don’t overwork yourself."
Lin Yanwan suddenly wrapped her arms around his neck. Tilting her head up, she took the initiative, pressing her soft, inviting lips to his in a deep kiss. A soft whisper, like the scent of orchids, followed.
"That’s your kiss for the day..."
...
*(Good night)*
