Chapter 281: Easy or Not
Chapter 281: Chapter 281: Easy or Not
Li Qing said hesitantly, "Confirming the direction is no problem, but pinpointing the exact city will be difficult."
"Having a direction is better than nothing," Feng Ling said, patting his back. "Come on, come on~ Go get your beads."
There weren’t many beads left on Li Qing’s phone chain.
He brought the beads out of his room. Suddenly, Feng Ling remembered something. "Wait a sec," she said, before hurrying upstairs.
A few minutes later, Feng Ling came jogging back down. In her hands, she now held a pen, a ruler, a compass, and a map of the country.
"Alright, you can do your Divination now," Feng Ling said.
As usual, Li Qing took three beads from the chain. He cupped them in his palm with a solemn expression, rolled them around, then gently tossed them into the air. They fell—
"That way." He quickly discerned the direction and pointed.
"Hold that pose, don’t move~" Feng Ling consulted the compass, excitedly marking out the four cardinal directions on the floor. Then, using Li Qing as the center point, she drew a cross and checked the angle.
"Hmm..." She squinted, glancing from the direction Li Qing was pointing to the map in her hand. She then took out her pen and ruler and, with great precision, drew a long, straight line across the map.
The line started at Qingjiang City and ended at the national border, passing through more than twenty cities and countless towns and villages.
"When I get back from Yuquan City, we’ll go here." She tapped her pen on a city north of the line. "Once we’re there, you can divine the direction again. The point where the two lines intersect will be Xing Guang’s city."
When she finished, Feng Ling couldn’t help but praise herself. "I’m a genius."
Li Qing: "..."
"What’s wrong?" Feng Ling asked him.
Li Qing looked at the map in her hands. "...What if the two lines don’t intersect?"
Feng Ling faltered. "Are you saying the Divination isn’t always accurate? I guess a 92% probability isn’t quite the same as 100%..."
"What I mean is..." Li Qing said, looking troubled. "Xing Guang’s position could change. The Card he holds is the Eye of Horus, which has a very strong detection ability. He might sense the danger as soon as we get close and flee somewhere else."
Feng Ling’s brow furrowed. After a moment of silence, she murmured, "So you’re saying that as we search for him and get closer and closer... right when we’re about to find him, he could detect us, buy a plane ticket to the other side of the world, and make all our time and effort a complete waste?"
Li Qing gave a pained nod. "...That’s one way to put it."
Feng Ling pondered for a moment, then asked, "How wide is the Eye of Horus’s detection range?"
Li Qing replied, "I can only look up the Card’s information. I don’t know the specific effects and limitations of its Skills."
For example, with the Nest Card, Li Qing could see its description: *You are the Origin of Life, you are the Mother of the World. You possess a robust physique and an inexhaustible source of power...* and so on.
But as for which specific Skills Feng Ling, the holder of the Nest Card, actually possessed, Li Qing couldn’t find out.
He could only use the description to speculate on what kind of Skills the user might have.
Sometimes, if he was lucky, he could find information about Card Skills shared by players on forums. Different card combinations could also result in vastly different Skills.
"*Eye of Horus, supreme guardian. You can distinguish good from evil, you can perceive the truth. Your eyes follow your Believers to every corner of the world, spreading the power of miracles. The sky is your domain, you watch over all, and all is within your sight.*"
Li Qing recited the Card’s description, then said to Feng Ling, "’Distinguish,’ ’perceive,’ ’watch over’—these words all indicate this Card has an extremely strong detection ability. We have to be prepared."
"An eye like that sounds like a real pain." The corner of Feng Ling’s mouth curled up. "But that just makes me more interested in it. Let’s try narrowing the search area for now. If he really can sense danger and run, I’ll figure something else out then."
Li Qing nodded and looked at the line on the map. "Should we tell Xu Yiming we’re going to this place?"
"No, we won’t need the truck this time," Feng Ling said. "We’ll fly. It’ll be a day trip."
Li Qing was taken aback.
’A plane was certainly more efficient, but if they flew, they couldn’t bring the Pollution Bodies. The Cat Owl, the Cat Spider, and Old Three couldn’t go, and neither could Ye Zheng. If they ran into unexpected trouble, Feng Ling would have to handle it all by herself.’
’But then again, she’d been on her own from the very beginning. Li Qing figured he was probably overthinking things.’
"I’m heading to bed. You get some rest too." Feng Ling folded up the map and started walking back inside. "Don’t use your Divination ability for a while. Save your uses."
"Mm," Li Qing acknowledged. He bent down, picked up the beads from the floor, wiped them clean, and carefully threaded them back onto his phone chain.
The night grew darker, and everyone in the Central Building was asleep.
Only the light in Xu Yiming’s room remained on. He was burning the midnight oil, furiously scribbling away at his speech.
He hadn’t been able to get any help from Su Yuqing, because she was currently obsessed with decorating.
...
...
The press conference was being broadcast live. It started at 10:30 AM and was scheduled to last two hours—
The first hour was dedicated to speeches from key figures, and the second was a Q&A session for reporters.
Xu Yiming’s speech was, of course, the main event. Every time the camera cut to him, the live chat exploded with activity.
Everyone was eager to know how the Maze in Guangshan City had been conquered.
Xu Yiming’s speech was accompanied by a slideshow. As he spoke, the large screen behind him played footage of the Divine Travel Team, filmed with a micro-camera inside the Maze.
The audience shivered as they watched the swarms of Mouse Monsters. They were especially horrified by the grotesque, big-headed Pseudo-God in the sedan chair. They couldn’t imagine the horrific consequences if creatures like that were to escape the Maze.
A reporter raised their hand. "Did you conquer the Maze just by killing these monsters?"
"Huh?" Xu Yiming froze for a moment, then quickly waved his hands. "No, no, those are just grunts."
He scrambled to switch to the next slide—a picture of a mountain.
It was a colossal mountain situated in the center of a plaza, a mountain formed from assorted limbs and chunks of flesh. It had fissures that breathed, eyeballs that swiveled, and countless hands and feet.
Its immense size stunned the entire audience into silence.
Everyone was shocked speechless by the sight.
Even the live chat went still, as if everyone watching was holding their breath, unwilling to type a single word that might obscure the image.
The reporter who had asked the question earlier suddenly burst into tears. Gripping the microphone, they shouted in a trembling voice, "You’re heroes! You’ve all been through so much!"
Xu Yiming gave an awkward smile. ’You have no idea how easy it was for me to just coast along,’ he thought.
He couldn’t accept such an honor by himself. He pulled the microphone closer and said humbly, "I was just part of the support team. I didn’t participate directly in the fight against the Maze Master."
The reporter’s voice boomed, "Are you saying that the one who had it toughest on the team was Feng Ling?"
’Xu Yiming wanted to applaud the reporter. ’She killed the Maze Boss, so of course she’s the one who had it the toughest!’’
’But saying it like that would make Feng Ling sound weak.’
’Just you wait, Feng Ling,’ he thought. ’Let me flex a little for you—’
Xu Yiming cleared his throat and replied in a deep voice, "Feng Ling walked out of the Maze without a single scratch. As for whether it was tough or not... I’ll let you all be the judge of that."
