Chapter 310 - 180: Reincarnator (2)
Chapter 310: Chapter 180: Reincarnator (2)
’These Undead are my powerful combat force. I can’t let them stray too far from me.’
The change didn’t last long.
Within a minute, Lu Cang realized he was now in a grand hall shimmering with crystalline blue and grayish-white hues.
Directly in front of him was an empty pedestal.
It looked like a pedestal meant for a Divine Statue, but it was bare, with no statue in sight.
Looking around, Lu Cang couldn’t help but sigh.
’Damn, why’d the location have to change?’
’That battlefield was perfect. So many corpses. Any place with that many bodies is my home turf.’
’Plus, the Restriction was right at my back, letting me come and go as I pleased.’
’If I ran into real danger, escaping would have been easy.’
’Now I’m suddenly in some strange palace with no idea where the exit is, or if there’s even a way to leave on my own.’
’It’s all a bit unsettling.’
Suddenly, a light flashed before Lu Cang’s eyes, and a resonant voice echoed in his mind.
"You... why do you desire Reincarnation?"
Lu Cang froze.
’Why do I desire Reincarnation? I don’t. Weren’t you the one who dragged me in here?’
But then, a second thought occurred to Lu Cang.
’Actually, if I have to be honest, I guess I do. After all, besides the loot, I was banking on the idea that killing all the enemies would grant me the Reincarnation Inheritance.’
’As for why?’
’This inheritance seems pretty powerful. How could I not take it?’
’And as far as dangerous Trials go, wasn’t slaughtering all those enemies already a Trial in itself?’
’Pari isn’t here, either. I can’t just leave, get a Divination from her, and then come back for it. The next opportunity would be four years from now.’
’Besides, my intuition isn’t screaming danger at me.’
’If anything, my gut is telling me to get this inheritance at all costs.’
’That’s why I chose to stay.’
If he had felt even the slightest premonition of danger, Lu Cang would have withdrawn and left without a second thought.
"Do I need a reason?"
Lu Cang retorted.
Silence answered from the great hall, but it was quickly followed by a blurry, illusory figure materializing before his eyes.
He had white hair and red eyes, which brimmed with an incredibly vibrant Spirituality.
He looked to be about the same height and age as Lu Cang himself.
His voice, too, sounded young.
He asked, "Do you know what Reincarnation means?"
Lu Cang shrugged and answered bluntly, "No."
Knowledge about Reincarnation was extremely rare.
Even in his later research with Pari, he would find that there was little information on Reincarnation in all of Lorren, or even within the White Tower.
So, Lu Cang didn’t know much about Reincarnation either.
"How long do you think a person can live?"
The figure abruptly changed the subject.
But Lu Cang wasn’t thrown off. He answered, "I only know that a Level 8 Mage can live for about five hundred years."
"And gods... they might possess eternal life."
The figure asked again, "If you can’t become a god, are you content to watch your life’s pursuits turn to dust when your time is up?"
Lu Cang replied, "I’ll pursue immortality if I can."
"But if that day really comes... I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it."
He had only lived for twenty-eight years. Even adding the time since he’d crossed over, he hadn’t yet reached twenty-nine.
Lu Cang figured there was no point in him trying to answer questions about the end of his life right now.
"Reincarnation is real."
"Forgetting everything about your past, casting aside your former soul, taking on a new body, and regaining your Spirituality..."
"Even in this state, a person can indeed achieve Reincarnation after death."
"Though in such a Reincarnation, you are no longer who you once were."
"But there is a way to break free of these shackles, to retain your essence after Reincarnation and not forget who you are."
"And that is..."
"...the Reincarnation Mark, which you are here to fight me for."
The phantom walked forward slowly, its form gradually shedding its blurriness and becoming solid and clear.
The white-haired, red-eyed boy was the same age as him.
"The Reincarnation Inheritance is only ever bestowed upon a single person. Only one can possess it."
"If you fight me for it, I will lose this Reincarnation Mark."
WHOOSH—
A cool breeze swept through the grand hall.
The boy’s eyes shone brightly as he met Lu Cang’s gaze.
Lu Cang felt something from him that he had never encountered before.
’His Spirituality is incredibly high. Could it be he’s not any weaker than me?’
’Is that even possible?’
"I was in the Moon Sea, engrossed in researching a new Combat Skill, when I suddenly felt a disturbance in the Reincarnation Mark."
"I never thought someone would actually pass the Trial and make their way into the Reincarnation Hall."
"I don’t know how many millennia it’s been. To think someone else finally passed that vexing Trial. Truly, a new generation surpasses the old..."
The white-haired, red-eyed boy seemed to be in high spirits.
His casual words betrayed an incredible self-confidence.
Lu Cang was all too familiar with this feeling. It was the composure of someone who believed themself to be invincible.
"But then again, that’s just a Trial I cleared back in my first life."
"Do you know what the most precious thing in this world is?"
Since the boy seemed keen on talking and revealing more information, Lu Cang had no intention of interrupting him.
He swept his Perception over the area but found nothing that suggested he needed to stall for time.
From the confidence in his words, Lu Cang could only tell that the boy just wanted to show off.
Besides, Lu Cang was genuinely interested in what he had to say.
"The most precious thing in this world is the wisdom gained over a lifetime—the experience you can’t take with you when you die."
"Imagine living a second life, yet remembering everything from your first."
"With the memories of your past life, you could easily comprehend Root Magic, possess a natural Extreme Intent for combat, know of treasures you buried for this new life, and be born already remembering all kinds of Assassination Techniques and peerless Combat Skills..."
