Chapter 777: Chapter 777 - Voren, my life does not matter. You can’t let them escape.

Most of the pups were already safe in the pack, but Voren’s heart sank when he saw one of his warriors being thrown through the air, his body arcing like a broken doll before he fell, hitting the ground with a sickening thud.

Seraphine checked on him, her face drained of color, her hands trembling as she pressed them against his wounds.

"He won’t make it if we take him to the hospital. There is no time." Her voice was tight with desperation. "I have to heal him myself."

Before Voren could stop her, the blue light was emitted from her eyes and hands, a brilliant, ethereal glow that seemed to come from somewhere deep within her. The warrior’s eyes snapped open, his voice filled with renewed energy.

"The Lycans were after Espe, but Jasmine saved her, so they want to kill her. We tried to help, but were overpowered." He paused, his breath ragged. "There are many of them."

Voren ran into the woods without waiting, his feet pounding against the earth, his heart slamming against his ribs. Seraphine attended to another warrior, the one she had healed standing protectively beside her to take orders, his body still weak but his spirit unbroken.

Voren could no longer reach Jasmine through the mindlink, the connection silent, empty, a void that made his blood run cold. He could hear growls, groans, and movements in the woods, the sounds of violence and pain, and ran in that direction, his legs pumping, his lungs burning.

He came to a stop, his heart in his stomach, his breath catching in his throat when he saw what they had done to Jasmine.

"Battal, how dare you?"

His voice was hoarse, raw with fury, and as soon as he lifted his hand, a strong wind from nowhere lifted the Lycans around, tearing Jasmine from Battal in the process.

The energy pulled Jasmine to him, her broken body flying through the air, and the Lycans fell after the wind stopped, their bodies crashing against trees.

’Bloodfang, what’s that?’ Voren asked, his voice tight with confusion. He had never emitted this amount of energy before, never felt this kind of power surge through his veins. It made him slightly weak, but it was worth it as Jasmine fell onto his shoulder.

Battal was the first to rise from the impact, his body already healing, his eyes burning with hatred. But as soon as Voren took a step, Bloodfang spoke, his voice heavy with sorrow that matched the dread in Voren’s chest.

’We shall talk about the powers later, but the she wolf doesn’t have long to live.’

Voren froze, his blood turning to ice.

’Her energy is poisoned,’ Bloodfang said sadly, the words landing like hammer blows that stole Voren’s breath.

Voren turned around immediately, looking for Seraphine to handle Jasmine, his mind racing, his heart pounding with desperate urgency. But Jasmine’s eyes opened slowly as she was over Voren’s shoulder.

When she saw Battal’s furious face, she smirked weakly, her expression equal parts defiance and triumph, and lifted her middle finger with the last of her strength.

Battal’s teeth gritted together, his jaw tight with rage, but with Voren involved, he knew he couldn’t hurt Jasmine anymore.

"Retreat," he ordered his men, his voice sharp with command and bitter frustration.

As soon as they began to walk away, Jasmine felt as if her pains had multiplied. She spoke barely audibly, her voice a whisper against his ear, full of quiet urgency.

"Voren, my life does not matter. You can’t let them escape."

Voren froze, though he continued running, his legs moving on instinct, his mind reeling with the weight of her words.

"Your life matters, Jasmine."

"I won’t make it." Her voice was broken, cracked, splintered with pain and acceptance. "I can feel it. Promise to avenge me."

The last part of her words were broken, but Voren had handled too many casualties to fall for the tricks of death.

He had seen too many warriors give up, too many pack members slip away because they believed they were already lost, and he refused to let that happen to her.

"Avenge you?" His voice was fierce, desperate, filled with a protectiveness that refused to yield. "Not in my dictionary. I’ll capture those who hurt you, and you have to avenge yourself, do you understand?" He paused, his grip on her tightening with fierce care. "Jasmine, you have to live to bring those Lycans to their knees."

He did not get a response, but Corvine had already reached him, his face pale, his eyes wide with horror that mirrored Voren’s own.

"Voren."

Voren quickly transferred Jasmine to him, his arms already missing the weight of her. "Get her to Sera."

Corvine’s heart sank when he saw Jasmine’s form. A tear slid down his cheek before he could stop it, a rare display of emotion from a man who had seen too much, pure grief and fury mixing in his chest.

"What the fuck did they do to her?"

He barely took a step when Kael arrived with Damon, Kael’s steps faltering, his face going pale, his eyes filling with tears of pure anguish.

"Jasmine."

His voice was low and hoarse, a sound of pure anguish, as he rushed to take Jasmine from Corvine. He was holding her bridal style, his eyes glued to her face, and what he noticed was not ordinary.

The smile on Jasmine’s face was strange. It was as if she was welcoming death in the bravest way, her eyes peaceful, her lips curved in something that looked almost like acceptance, and the sight of it shattered something inside him.

"Kael."

Seraphine’s voice jogged Kael’s mind, and he quickly lowered Jasmine, sitting on the floor in the woods, pressing a greater part of her body to his chest, his arms wrapped around her like he could hold her together, like he could keep her from slipping away. Desperate love and terror flooded every breath he took.

Seraphine knelt before him, the blue light emitting from her hands, but they fizzled away as soon as they touched Jasmine’s body, the healing energy dissolving into nothing.

Seraphine was in tears, her face wet, her voice cracking with helplessness and rising panic.

’What the fuck is going on, Marsha? Why can’t we heal her?’
