Chapter 784: Chapter 784 - Is Espe alright? And are the Lycans dead?

Seraphine froze before she remembered what Voren said about Battal, the words hitting hard enough to leave a cold dread settling in her chest.

"That must be the effect of the poison. Let me run the tests first."

She reached out for some gloves as Jasmine asked, her voice weak but urgent, pure worry for the ones she loved cutting through the exhaustion.

"Is Espe alright? And are the Lycans dead?"

Before Seraphine could speak, Voren beat her to it, his voice steady and calm, pure reassurance in every word.

"Didn’t I tell you? No one is avenging you of your enemies. The Lycans are still very much alive, but since your wolf is temporarily inactive, I can have Kael avenge them on your behalf." He paused, his gaze softening with quiet care. "Espe is fine. She was worried about you, but Madison was able to calm her."

Jasmine smiled a little, the expression fragile but genuine, pure relief flooding her features at the news.

"Thank goddess she’s fine. I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if anything happened to her." She paused, her jaw tightening with determination that burned through the weakness. "As for the Lycans, it won’t be bad if Kael avenges me, but I want to be there. How do I get my wolf back?"

She could still feel Battal’s cold glare on her, could still feel the memory of his attack, and this time, she wanted to face him with her family by her side, not alone and vulnerable. The need for that strength left a fierce fire in her chest.

Seraphine explained the part about her wolf, her voice gentle but honest, pure care in every word.

"It’s a miracle for you to be alive, Jasmine. Let’s be grateful for that gift first. Your wolf would most certainly show up."

The fact that Jasmine had regained consciousness before the ice wore off was enough for her, showing that Kael’s love was strong enough for both he and Jasmine.

It was a testament to something deeper than magic, something that couldn’t be measured or quantified, and the knowledge of it left a quiet warmth in Seraphine’s heart.

She took a bit of blood sample and excused Jasmine, her voice warm with the promise of return.

"I’ll be right back, but I’ll have Callum move you to the leaders’ ward for now."

The reason for the leaders’ ward was simple. If a leader was hospitalized for any reason, he or she might still need to work from the hospital, so they needed the privacy.

Some cases were confidential, and that explained the reason for the seclusion. Also, there was more privacy in the leaders’ ward, and the beds were much larger than the normal hospital beds. The quiet dignity of the space was a small mercy.

After Jasmine was moved to the leaders’ ward, the blood transfusion began after Seraphine confirmed through the test that Kael was a match. She pulled Voren away to discuss some important matters, her voice low and urgent, pure concern for the timing of the war.

"V, when are we launching the attack? I hope you won’t wait for the Lycans to regain their strength and powers."

"Never." Voren said seriously, his jaw tight with absolute resolve. "Mom is working on some portions, so as soon as Jasmine is discharged, we shall take off." He paused, his gaze softening as it landed on her bump, pure protectiveness rising hard and fast.

"Besides, you are in your final month of the second trimester, and your bump is obvious. You need lots of rest during the third trimester."

Seraphine smiled, grateful that Voren had thought it all through, had considered every angle, every danger. She couldn’t imagine all this happening in her third trimester, couldn’t imagine fighting a war while carrying a huge bump with the weight of heavy fatigue. The foresight of it left a quiet relief settling over her.

"I’ll go check on the test result now. If she feels better after the blood transfusion, we can leave after."

Voren did not refuse, already sending messages across through the mindlink to those involved, his voice sharp with command that left no room for delay.

’Jasmine is awake but undergoing a blood transfusion. We should be ready to take off in the next three hours," he said it to Corvine, Damon, and Oriana, knowing that the two men would communicate the information to their mates, pure efficiency in every word.

Then he mindlinked the gammas, Sloane and Faye, his voice steady and sure, pure trust in their capability.

’You and your partners are in charge of the pack until we return. Should you not be able to contact us for any reason and there is trouble, call Ravyn.’

Due to traveling in wolf form, they wouldn’t be able to take any phones, would be cut off from the world until they returned. After receiving the confirmation responses, he called Ravyn on the phone, his voice low and urgent, pure focus on the greater plan.

"The Lycans attacked, and I’m going after them with my leaders. Should there be a need for help, my gammas will contact you. Play it smart."

Ravyn was disturbed, his voice tight with concern that cut through the usual cool distance. "Was anyone injured?"

"Four warriors plus one gamma. Sera healed them." Voren paused, letting the words sink in, pure gravity in the silence that followed. "And I thought I should remind you. They are after Sera and Espe."

The mention of both names arose a desire in Ravyn to help, a fierce protectiveness that he had buried for too long.

He owed both Seraphine and Esperanza too much, owed them a debt he could never repay, and the knowledge of that debt burned hot in his chest.

"Can’t I come with you?"

"No." Voren quickly refused, his voice firm, pure strategic necessity in the refusal. "That would mean blowing your cover, and if we are not able to defeat them now, we won’t have anyone to feed us information about their plans."

Ravyn sighed helplessly, the sound heavy with frustration and the weight of the sacrifice demanded of him.

"Alright. I have eyes on the Grimroot pack. Please keep me in the loop."

After the call ended, Ravyn left one of his betas, Riven, in charge, and left with Gray and a few more warriors, surrounding the Grimroot pack borders, their bodies hidden in the shadows, their eyes watchful.

Even if Battal saw them, Ravyn already had an answer. He’d say that he was spying on the Grimroot pack for Battal, and the latter would believe him. The cover was thin, but it was all he had.

However, he would have no choice but to blow his cover if another group of Lycans attacked the Grimroot pack in Voren’s absence. Yeah, that was his plan. That was his sacrifice. The readiness for it settled hard and quiet in his heart.

Seraphine returned from the lab and met Voren in front of the door of the leaders’ ward.

His finger was pressed to his lips to buy her silence as he gently pulled her into the ward, his movements careful, his expression unreadable, pure quiet intensity in the gesture.

Seraphine froze, her eyes wide when she saw what was going on.
