Alpha's Regret: The Seventh Time was Forever
Chapter 786 - Too slow, Dad. What if they come back?
Chapter 786: Chapter 786 - Too slow, Dad. What if they come back?
Kael and Jasmine pulled away with difficulty, and Jasmine’s cheeks were pink, the blush spreading from her neck to her ears like a schoolgirl caught in her first crush, pure shy joy lighting up her pale face.
"I think I’m ready, King Voren." She said it teasingly, her voice light, her eyes bright with something that had been missing before, pure life returning to her gaze.
Seraphine laughed, the sound warm and genuine, pure relief and affection mixed in the expression. "I see you are in a good mood, but how do you feel?"
"Much better." Jasmine said honestly, her voice steady, the weakness still present but no longer overwhelming.
Seraphine stopped the transfusion, her movements careful, pure practical care in every gesture. She didn’t want Kael to weaken from it when he was going to war, didn’t want him going into battle with less strength than he needed. The protectiveness of it settled quiet and firm in her chest.
"You both should rest for an hour, and I’ll have Sloane bring some fresh clothes for you both too."
Only then did the two people on the bed realize they’d been in the same clothes since last night, the grime of battle still clinging to them, the bloodstains a reminder of everything that had happened, pure exhaustion and residual trauma still lingering beneath the joy.
However, an excited voice rang from the entrance, high and bright and full of joy that cut straight through the room.
"Aunt Jasmine!"
"Espe!"
Jasmine’s mood exploded with joy as that little girl climbed the bed with the speed of lightning, throwing herself into Jasmine’s arms, her small body trembling with pure relief and love that left no room for anything else.
Jasmine had to brace herself for the impact as the force nearly threw her from the bed, her arms wrapping around Esperanza, holding her close as tears of pure gratitude filled her eyes.
"Aunt Jasmine, did that man hurt you? Are you okay?"
Jasmine’s heart warmed as tears gathered in her eyes, blurring her vision. Espe had a way of stealing people’s hearts without knowing, and for a long time, she had stolen Jasmine’s heart, had made her want to be better, to be worthy of that innocent love. The purity of it left her chest tight with emotion.
"Your daddy came to save me, so I’m fine." Jasmine said honestly, her voice thick with emotion that she made no effort to hide.
Another voice was heard from the entrance, much stronger, much fiercer, pure protective fire in every word.
"I told him my dad was going to eat him for lunch. The moron had the guts to touch my sister." Bryan’s small chest puffed with righteous anger that left everyone momentarily speechless. "Dad, did you kill him?"
Everyone was stunned by his strong words, their eyes wide, their mouths agape, pure surprise mixed with quiet pride at the little boy’s courage.
"Bryan, you mustn’t talk like that." Seraphine chastised him, her voice firm but gentle, pure maternal care in the correction.
Bryan frowned, his little brow furrowing with stubborn determination that refused to be silenced. "But he wanted to take my sister away." His attention settled on Voren again, his gaze unwavering, pure demand for justice in his eyes. "Dad, did you kill him?"
Voren was stunned for a moment, not used to being interrogated by anyone except his wife, not used to the fierce protectiveness of a child who had already seen too much, pure helplessness flickering across his face before resolve replaced it.
"Not yet, but I’m working on it." He said honestly, his voice steady, pure promise in every syllable.
But Bryan did not seem impressed, his small face scrunching with dissatisfaction that made his determination even clearer. "Too slow, Dad. What if they come back?"
Voren crouched to Bryan’s level, his voice soft but firm as Oriana, who had come with the kids, walked up to Jasmine on the bed, pure affection in her ancient eyes.
"Bryan, I will take care of it. You have to trust me, okay?" Voren’s gaze was steady, his words a promise that left no room for doubt. "But you can’t use such strong language, do you understand?"
Bryan nodded, his expression serious, pure acceptance mixed with lingering fire. "Understood, but you have to get the bad guys fast."
Voren felt helpless as Bryan walked over to Jasmine, his small shoulders squared, his steps determined, pure protective instinct already strong in the little boy. That was when Jasmine explained, her voice quiet but clear, pure honesty in the clarification.
"He’s not talking about the man you saw me with. They look alike, but the one who captured Espe when I arrived was different. But he seemed to report to the one who almost killed me."
Voren was certain that whoever that man was, he would appear if they attacked the cat first. The knowledge left a cold, focused determination settling in his chest.
"You will show me when we get there."
It ached him so much that his little princess was attacked right on their pack land, and it took so much strength for him to endure the pain of it, to keep his composure when all he wanted to do was rage. Pure protective fury burned quietly beneath the calm.
"I’m here because of your wolf." Oriana said, and Jasmine was elated, her eyes brightening with hope that cut through the residual weakness.
"Can you bring her back?"
Oriana shook her head but forced a smile, her ancient eyes warm with affection that left no room for despair. Then she pressed her hand to Jasmine’s chest, her smile never fading, pure quiet power in the gesture.
"It can’t come back because there is poison in your body. Sera’s blood has nullified the effect of it, and the good thing is, it’s made your body immune to any more of such."
Seraphine was interested in this part, her scientist curiosity kicking in, her mind already racing with possibilities that left her eyes sharp with focus.
"Mom, what are you talking about?"
Oriana looked at the kids and quickly mindlinked Madison. She arrived and took the kids away after offering kind words to Jasmine, her presence gentle but firm, pure care in every movement.
After the door closed, Oriana stared affectionately at Jasmine, her gaze carrying the weight of centuries and pure pride.
"The moon goddess is impressed by your resolve. You were given the chance to pretend nothing happened and go bring Espe, but you rather chose to die, even smiling when it was so close you could taste it."
She paused, letting the words sink in, pure reverence in the silence. "Yeah, your old wolf couldn’t handle that kind of poison, but you shall receive a new wolf when the time is right."
Seraphine smiled and asked Oriana, her voice curious, pure hope mixing with scientific interest. "I hope that wolf would be stronger."
"Much stronger." Oriana smiled, her eyes shining with pride that left no room for doubt. With dedicated and selfless pack members like Jasmine, she was certain that the future was bright. The certainty of it settled warm and steady in the room.
A sigh of relief escaped Jasmine, her shoulders dropping, the tension bleeding out of her in a rush of quiet gratitude. For as long as she was going to get a stronger wolf, it was worth the wait. Pure hope filled the empty place where her old wolf had been.
"Thank you, Luna Oriana."
"No, thank you for being selfless." Then her gaze moved to Kael, her expression changing to something more serious, pure quiet inquiry in her ancient eyes. "Kael, I see your heart is settled now. Are you searching for your second chance mate?"
