Chapter 794: Chapter 794 – Just this last time, and I promise you won’t feel the pain anymore

Voren was a werewolf, one of the very creatures Battal had hunted, captured, and drained of their powers for centuries, yet the man was now overpowering him in front of his own army, forcing him to endure injuries he had never imagined suffering at the hands of someone he considered inferior.

Battal struggled to free his other hand from Voren’s hold, his face twisting as he fought against the pressure, but by the time he managed to move it into a more favorable position, he had already lost the advantage he needed.

Voren pulled the sword free and swung it with a force that left Battal no time to react, severing his right arm in a single brutal strike.

The detached limb fell to the ground with a sickening thud, and for a moment, the entire clearing seemed to freeze as the Lycan king stared at what remained of his shoulder, disbelief spreading across his face before the pain finally registered.

The members of the Lycan army looked horrified, their expressions draining of color as they watched their king suffer an injury they had never expected to see inflicted on him.

Voren raised the blood-soaked sword again, but Battal, driven by desperation rather than sound judgment, reached out with his remaining hand and seized the blade, allowing its sharp edge to slice through his palm as blood streamed between his fingers and dripped onto the ground.

Ignoring the injury, Battal tried to direct the weapon toward Voren’s already wounded chest, determined to inflict another devastating blow before the werewolf king could regain control.

Voren anticipated the attack and rolled away from him, creating enough space for Battal to rise to his feet, although the blood running down his own shoulder made it clear that the damage he had sustained was far from insignificant.

Even then, Voren refused to lower his guard as Battal tossed the sword lightly into the air and caught it by the handle, his expression remaining cold despite the blood dripping steadily from his shoulder.

Seraphine’s heart sank as she watched Battal prepare for another exchange, knowing that every new injury would travel through their mate bond and reach her with almost the same intensity.

Unable to contain her fear any longer, she reached for him through their mind link, her voice filled with desperation as she pleaded with him.

’You can’t let him stab you again. The pain is too much for me to bear.’

For a moment, Voren’s attention returned to the mindlink, and he remembered what he had nearly allowed himself to forget in the heat of the battle: every wound he suffered was shared with Seraphine, and every moment of agony he endured was another burden placed on the woman he loved.

His expression tightened as he considered her words, but the determination in his eyes never faded, and when he answered her through their mindlink, his reassurance carried a promise he intended to keep.

’Just this last time, and I promise you won’t feel the pain anymore.’

Seraphine did not understand what he meant until Battal charged at him again, swinging the sword with the desperation of a man who knew he was running out of options.

Voren raised his hand and caught the blade before it could reach his chest, but the sharp edge sliced into his palm, drawing another stream of blood as the pain tore through his body and traveled directly to Seraphine.

She gasped, her fingers curling against her chest as the familiar agony washed over her, but Voren had already begun carrying out whatever plan he had formed in his mind.

He transferred the sword to his dominant hand, bent slightly to avoid Battal’s next movement, and swung the weapon toward the Lycan king’s leg with a force that left no room for mercy.

The blade severed Battal’s leg before he could defend himself, and the sudden injury caused his eyes to widen as a strangled cry escaped his throat, his remaining strength failing him until he dropped onto one knee.

For the first time since the battle began, Battal was no longer standing as an equal before Voren.

He was kneeling.

Voren stood over him with the blood-covered sword in his hand, his chest rising and falling with each labored breath as he stared down at the man who had threatened everything he held dear.

The fury in his eyes was so intense that it seemed capable of setting the entire world ablaze, yet his voice remained chillingly controlled when he finally spoke.

"You know your greatest mistake, Battal?"

Battal lifted his head, sweat running down his forehead and mixing with the blood on his face as his body trembled from the pain.

His breathing came in harsh, uneven gasps, and his jaw remained tightly clenched as he struggled to preserve whatever dignity he had left in front of the army that had spent centuries watching him command others without question.

Never in his life had Battal been forced to kneel before another man, much less a werewolf he had always considered beneath his kind, and the realization that his own soldiers were witnessing his humiliation seemed to torment him almost as much as his injuries.

"I don’t make mistakes," he replied through gritted teeth, his voice strained by the pain he could no longer conceal.

Voren scoffed, raising the blood-soaked sword as his expression hardened and the air around them seemed to grow heavier with the threat of what he intended to do next.

"The fact that you think you can take my family from me if I die," he replied, his voice cold enough to silence the whispers spreading through the clearing. "They’re the reason I live, and you don’t threaten a man’s family."

He did not give Battal time to absorb his words before driving the tip of the sword into his eye socket, the sudden attack finally forcing a groan of pure agony from the Lycan king’s throat.

The members of the Lycan army, who had watched the battle with almost expressionless faces, could no longer hide the fear in their eyes as Voren withdrew the blade with Battal’s injured eyeball caught on its tip, blood running down the steel and dripping onto the ground beneath them.

Voren stared down at the kneeling king, his grip tightening around the sword as he made one thing clear to everyone watching the battle.

"I don’t just avenge my family, I protect them. This is for each of my warriors your men attacked, and my gamma."

He raised the sword once more, and this time, everyone in the clearing understood that whatever happened next would determine whether Battal had any chance of surviving the battle at all.
