Alpha's Regret: The Seventh Time was Forever
Chapter 799 – Battal’s secret woman
Chapter 799: Chapter 799 – Battal’s secret woman
When Battal used the vanishing spell to escape the outlands, he didn’t return to his underground fortress as anyone would have expected. Instead, he transported himself to the human world, desperate to reach a place where he could recover without being seen by the elders or anyone else who might take advantage of his current condition.
His body was broken, his pride had been crushed, and his mind was consumed by thoughts of survival as he struggled to endure the agony coursing through him.
Every nerve in his body screamed in pain, and the phantom sensations coming from his missing limbs tormented him so mercilessly that even breathing felt like an exhausting task.
He had spent decades making others tremble at the sound of his name, yet he now found himself fighting to remain conscious, unable to escape the humiliating reality that the man who had once seemed invincible had finally been brought to his knees.
Despite his condition, Battal refused to let his soldiers see just how badly he was suffering, determined to maintain whatever remained of his authority until he could return to his former strength.
Sweat gathered on his forehead, his face had turned pale from blood loss, and fresh blood continued seeping from his wounds, but he still managed to summon enough strength to dismiss the members of the Lycan army who had accompanied him.
"You are all dismissed, and I don’t want anyone asking questions about where I’ve gone. If the elders or anyone else asks about me, tell them I have some business to take care of. Under no circumstances should anyone discover my whereabouts. Is that clear?"
His voice was cold and commanding, leaving no room for questions or disagreement, and the soldiers immediately bowed their heads before obeying his instructions.
None of them dared challenge their king, even though the sight of his injuries had left them deeply unsettled, and within minutes, they had all departed except for the one soldier Battal trusted enough to know his most closely guarded secrets.
As soon as the others were gone, Battal turned toward the remaining soldier, his expression growing increasingly strained as he fought against the pain threatening to overwhelm him.
The authority in his voice remained, but there was now an unmistakable urgency behind his words, something dangerously close to desperation that the soldier had rarely witnessed from his king.
"Take me to her."
The soldier immediately understood that Battal was referring to the woman whose existence he had been trusted to keep secret, a woman whose connection to the Lycan King was known to almost no one.
He had served Battal long enough to understand the importance of protecting his secrets, and he would sooner take them to his grave than betray his king’s trust, but the sight of the blood covering Battal’s body made it impossible for him to ignore the immediate danger they were facing.
"Your Majesty, you’re bleeding badly. We need to get you treated first, or your condition could get worse before we reach our destination."
He stepped forward, preparing to help Battal stand or carry him if necessary, but the Lycan King immediately rejected the suggestion, his expression hardening despite the exhaustion etched across his face.
He couldn’t afford to waste time in a place where someone might recognize him, and he certainly wasn’t going to risk being taken to a hospital where questions about his injuries could expose his identity.
"No. Take me to her, and get me a good human doctor."
The sharpness of his response made it clear that he wasn’t interested in hearing another suggestion, and the soldier reluctantly obeyed, knowing better than to argue with his king when he had already made up his mind.
Battal had no intention of returning to his underground fortress until he was in better condition, because the thought of appearing before the elders while he could barely stand was almost as unbearable as the pain ravaging his body.
He had ruled through fear for too many years to allow his subjects to witness him in such a vulnerable state, especially when some of them might interpret his injuries as an opportunity to challenge his authority.
Until he could stand on his own and face them without inviting their pity or contempt, he would remain hidden, even if it meant enduring the humiliation of depending on others to survive.
The soldier helped him into the vehicle, taking care not to aggravate his injuries before driving toward the coded location Battal had given him.
Throughout the journey, Battal remained unusually quiet, his jaw clenched as he fought to keep his consciousness from slipping away, while the soldier repeatedly glanced at him through the rearview mirror, growing more concerned with every passing minute.
When they finally arrived, they were met by a woman in her early thirties who appeared at the entrance almost as soon as she realized someone had arrived.
The moment she caught sight of Battal, the color drained from her face, and tears immediately gathered in her eyes as she hurried toward him, her trembling hands reaching out as though she could somehow ease the suffering written across his features.
"Oh my God! What happened to you?"
Her voice broke as she took in his bloodied clothes and the terrible condition of his body, and the fear in her eyes made it obvious that the sight had frightened her far more than she could express.
She looked as though she wanted to ask a hundred questions, but Battal was in no condition to explain anything, and he had no intention of discussing the battle that had left him so badly injured.
"Get me a good doctor."
Even then, his tone carried the same authority he used when issuing orders to his soldiers, and the woman immediately understood that there was no time to waste.
She hurriedly retrieved her phone and called the only doctor Battal had authorized her to contact, the same man who usually treated their son whenever the boy fell ill and who had been trusted with the secrets surrounding their unusual relationship.
The doctor knew better than to ask unnecessary questions about the Lycan King’s private affairs, and the moment he arrived and examined Battal’s condition, his professional composure became even more serious.
He understood that the injuries were far beyond anything he could safely treat in a private residence, and after assessing what needed to be done, he turned toward the worried woman.
"I need to get him into the operating room immediately. I can’t treat injuries this severe here, and he’ll need specialized care, particularly for the damage to his limbs. Fortunately, I know someone who specializes in prosthetics, so we’ll arrange for the necessary treatment once he’s stable. Don’t worry. I’ll do everything I can to make sure he recovers."
Although his reassurance did little to erase the fear in her heart, the woman had no choice but to trust him, especially when she understood that delaying treatment could put Battal’s life at risk.
The doctor and his team prepared to transport the injured Lycan King to the hospital, while she followed closely behind, praying that the man she cared about would survive whatever had happened to him.
For all the power Battal possessed, there was nothing she could do to protect him from the consequences of his injuries, and the helplessness of watching him being taken away left her feeling as though the ground beneath her feet had disappeared.
When they reached the hospital, the medical team moved Battal toward the operating room without wasting time, and the woman followed until she was stopped by the doors that would separate her from him for the next several hours.
She watched helplessly as the doors closed, leaving her alone in the waiting area with nothing but her worries, her unanswered questions, and Battal’s phone, which had been left in her possession.
She never imagined that the device would ring at such a moment, much less that the call would come from someone who might know Battal well enough to recognize his name.
When the screen lit up, she glanced down and saw the caller identification displayed across it.
Alpha Ravyn.
Assuming the caller was one of the powerful men Battal dealt with in his private affairs, she answered without giving herself much time to consider whether she should.
Her emotions were already stretched thin by fear and uncertainty, and the moment she heard the person on the other end of the line, she struggled to keep her voice steady, her tears falling before she could stop them.
"Battal isn’t well. He can’t speak to you."
Her words came out broken, and she couldn’t prevent the tears from gathering in her eyes again as she thought about the man lying unconscious in the operating room.
She had no idea who Alpha Ravyn was or why he was calling, but she was too worried about Battal to pretend that everything was fine.
At the other end of the line, Ravyn froze, exchanging a stunned look with Voren as the woman’s words registered in his mind. He had expected to hear Battal’s arrogant voice, perhaps accompanied by another threat or a warning that he would eventually settle their unfinished business, but he certainly hadn’t expected a woman to answer his phone in such a distressed state.
Voren was equally surprised, although for an entirely different reason.
Battal had always treated women as though their only purpose was to bear children and serve the interests of the men who controlled them, and he had never hidden his belief that they were little more than breeders in their world.
Yet the woman’s reaction suggested that her concern for Battal went far beyond the kind of obligation one might expect from someone who had been forced into his service.
The fear in her voice sounded genuine, and the tears she was struggling to contain suggested that Battal’s suffering had affected her deeply. For the first time, Voren found himself wondering whether the Lycan King had been hiding a part of his life that even his enemies knew nothing about.
"I’m sorry to hear that," Ravyn replied, recovering from his initial surprise as he tried to keep the conversation going. "Can you share your location with me? I’d like to come and see him."
