American Adventure: My Uncle is Don Quixote
Chapter 508: The Dust Settles, Great Harvest, Returning to New York
Chapter 508 -330: The Dust Settles, Great Harvest, Returning to New York
Li Wei sat by the window, a plate of fried eggs, refried beans, and avocado in front of him.
Don Quixote sat across from him, spreading butter on his toast.
Chen Haisheng had finished eating early and went to check on the vehicles and the handover with the Mercenaries. The four Mercenaries were already on standby in the lobby.
Jin Heon was the last to arrive.
She walked into the restaurant dragging a rolling suitcase, its handle still extended. She held a laptop bag in one hand and clutched her phone in the other, looking exactly like a commuter who had arrived at the airport early only to find her flight canceled.
“All packed?” Don Quixote glanced at her.
“Packed,” Jin Heon said, leaning her suitcase against the table and pulling out a chair to sit. Her face was a picture of dejection. “Ready to go anytime.”
She glanced at the menu and listlessly waved a waiter over. “An iced Americano, thanks. No sugar, no milk. Make it as bitter as my life.”
Then she placed her laptop on the table, pressed half her face against it, and let out a sigh.
“Giving up on work?” Li Wei teased while cutting his fried egg.
“Work on what? Ugh,” Jin Heon sighed. “I’ve contacted every potential contract manufacturer around Monterrey, and I’ve even asked in other Latin American countries. They either don’t have the production line, their quotes are outrageous, or they’re connected to Kuchilo and don’t dare take the job.”
“It’s fine, it’s a small problem,” Li Wei said with a smile. “Let’s eat first.”
“I don’t have an appetite,” Jin Heon sighed again.
“If you’re not working, you have all the more reason to eat something good,” Li Wei said. “Aren’t we going to Cancun? Cheer up.”
“I can’t cheer up,” Jin Heon said, forcing herself to sit up straight. The Apple logo was imprinted on her cheek. “Boss, your attitude is way too relaxed.”
“Try this first,” Li Wei said, holding up the menu to recommend something. “The fried dough sticks with chocolate sauce are great, and this beef rib taco is delicious too.”
“You’ve tried them?”
“Hmm…” Li Wei paused. “No, but they look good.”
Don Quixote watched the scene, shook his head with a smile, and went back to eating his toast.
On the TV above Li Wei’s head, a local news broadcast from the state of León was playing.
On the screen, a neatly dressed female news anchor was reporting some seemingly mundane news at a normal pace.
Then her expression suddenly changed.
She was handed a new script. After glancing down at it, she looked back up at the camera, her mouth slightly agape.
Then she pressed her earpiece, apparently confirming something with the director.
A few seconds later, her speech suddenly accelerated.
“We’ve just received some breaking news—”
Li Wei and Don Quixote looked up at the same time. The few other tables of diners in the restaurant also turned their attention to the TV.
“—the de facto controller of the Sinaloa Group in the Monterrey region, the drug lord Jesus Lopez Sanchez, nicknamed ‘Kuluoqi,’ along with his second-in-command, were found dead last night in their manor in the Santa Caterina District!”
The taco almost fell out of Jin Heon’s mouth.
“Meanwhile, the Sinaloa Group’s core drug distribution warehouse, located in the industrial district west of Monterrey City, was also raided the night before—”
The screen cut to an aerial shot. A huge metal warehouse was surrounded by soldiers from the Mexican Federal Government and police cars. The large roll-up door was wide open, and inside, overturned cardboard boxes and equipment could be vaguely seen.
“—a total of over 100 group members were seriously injured, with dozens unconscious. All have now been sent to various hospitals in Monterrey for treatment and custody.”
“Over half a ton of high-purity drugs were neutralized and incinerated, and several victims who were forced to be drug mules have been safely rescued.”
“It is reported that the Mexican Federal Government and the United States of America’s Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have jointly claimed responsibility for this operation—”
“AHEM! AHEM! AHEM!” Li Wei suddenly coughed, as if his coffee had just bitten him.
“Boss, be careful.” Jin Heon thoughtfully handed him a napkin. “We’re really lucky, huh? We just get here and crime takes a hit.”
“Yep, yep,” Li Wei said, wiping his mouth in agreement. “Really lucky.”
He looked at the TV.
“—claiming it as one of the major successes in their joint crackdown on the northern drug corridor.”
The screen switched again to a live scene, where a spokesman for the Federal Government, dressed in a suit, stood before a row of national flags and spoke gravely into a microphone:
“Yesterday, our joint task force launched a raid on Kuluoqi’s stronghold, killing him and his second-in-command on the spot…”
“Excuse me, Colonel,” a reporter asked, “what were the results of this operation? Were there any casualties on your side? And how was the raid carried out?”
The spokesman paused. “Hmm… The specific tactics of the raid are classified and cannot be disclosed. What I can disclose is that our side suffered no casualties.”
Li Wei’s mouth twitched, then broke into a smile.
‘Good enough.’
‘The DEA and the Mexican Federal Government taking credit for this indirectly covers my tracks.’
He prided himself on his clean work. His [Body of Silver] ability prevented him from shedding skin cells or hair. After putting on gloves and a mask, and activating [Vision Obscuration] and [Sky Stepping], he had erased every last trace of his presence.
Besides Jin Heon, Don Quixote had also put down his toast and was staring at the TV.
“—and according to another source, a patrol officer from the Monterrey City Police Department also played a key role in this operation.”
The screen cut to a photo ID of Rafael Mendoza. He was in a police uniform, his face young and handsome.
