Chapter 558: Chapter 364: Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department: Li Wei and I Are Fucking Bros

"That’s good," Chief Robert Flynn said amiably. "These San Pedro gangs are like mold spreading after a rainstorm. You can never completely wipe them out, unlike the Bloods and the Crips, whose territories can still barely be controlled."

If his subordinates saw this expression on his face, their eyes would probably pop out of their heads. Robert didn’t even know why himself, but the more he looked at Li Wei, the more he appreciated him, finding him increasingly pleasing to the eye.

He picked up his coffee and took another sip. "Besides, I only found out after receiving a call from the councilman. Technically, I wasn’t really the one who helped you."

"Even so," Li Wei said, "the LAPD’s execution, from receiving the report to completing the arrest, took less than twenty-four hours. That level of efficiency is in a league of its own across the entire United States of America."

Hearing this, the corners of Flynn’s mouth twitched upward slightly, but he still shook his head.

"By the way," Li Wei said, glancing at Flynn before shifting the topic, "I reviewed the case file and noticed something."

Flynn turned his head to look at him.

"I heard that when your people interrogated the crew’s prop team leader, Sheldon Sinclair, the cameras ran out of power?" Li Wei said with a smile. "And the lights in the interrogation room were broken."

"Uh-huh," Flynn revealed a smile. "What are you trying to say?"

"What I mean is," Li Wei paused, "it must be incredibly difficult to maintain a police department of over ten thousand people. Equipment maintenance, personnel expenses... even the best chef needs ingredients to cook."

As he spoke, he pulled an envelope from his suit’s inner pocket and placed it on the coffee table.

"On behalf of Horizon Holding Company Limited, I would like to donate one million USD to the Los Angeles Police Union to repair the interrogation room lights and install new cameras," he said.

Flynn looked down at the envelope, then back up at Li Wei. His expression gradually turned serious.

"What are you doing?" he said. "I cannot accept this money."

"Chief—"

"Helping you handle this matter is my duty. I received a request from the councilman, and I called the precinct. That’s all," he said. "How could I take your money? With our relationship, if you have any issues next time, just contact me directly."

Li Wei was slightly stunned, almost slapping himself on the forehead. The effect of [Adaptability (Bronze)] was to make the other party treat him as one of their own for an hour. Facing one of his own, Flynn naturally felt no need to accept Li Wei’s money.

They were practically brothers now; there was no need to talk about money.

But Li Wei had to give this money away. In an hour, Robert Flynn would snap out of it. If Li Wei didn’t establish a solid connection now, he had no idea when the next opportunity would arise. Robert Flynn was the chief commanding over ten thousand Los Angeles police officers and a cabinet member for the mayor of Los Angeles. Spending one million USD to build a good relationship with him was an absolute steal.

"I understand," Li Wei said, not taking back the envelope. After a moment of thought, he spoke again. "But Chief Flynn, I just want to help. After all, I’m filming in Los Angeles, and I want to make my own contribution to the LAPD."

Listen to that! Robert Flynn was practically on the verge of tears.

What a good kid. A twenty-year-old Super Bowl MVP, worth hundreds of millions, yet so kind-hearted and helpful, wholeheartedly dedicated to contributing to Los Angeles.

He thought about it seriously and suddenly asked, "Do you really want to help?"

"Of course."

"May is National Police Week," Flynn said earnestly, leaning back into the sofa. "Every May, we organize a large long-distance run to honor fallen officers.

"However, Los Angeles is hosting a major summit next month, so this year’s Police Week has been pushed to next week.

"Tens of thousands of active officers and support staff from the entire department will participate, along with many families of the fallen officers. In principle, our sponsorship slots for this year are already full, but if you’re interested..."

"Do you mean LW Beverages could be the official sponsor for this event?" Li Wei asked.

"If you’re interested, this one million USD can serve as your sponsorship fee," Flynn nodded. "Your brand logo can appear on all event materials—water stations, banners, commemorative T-shirts, certificates, and press releases. Tens of thousands of people will drink your beverages, and the families of the fallen officers will receive commemorative gift bags sponsored by you."

Li Wei thought about it. One million USD in sponsorship fees, plus another million in product costs... what would that buy him?

Tens of thousands of police officers and their families across Los Angeles would see the LW logo. That was the first win.

More importantly, this would be fantastic for building LW’s brand image, and it would forge a solid connection between him and Robert Flynn. Those were two more wins.

Win, win, win. He was racking up so many wins it was unreal.

"Chief Flynn," Li Wei immediately said, "I’m definitely interested!"

Robert Flynn grasped Li Wei’s hand and sighed with emotion. "What an outstanding young man. On behalf of the Los Angeles Police Department, I thank you."

Li Wei took out his phone. "I’ll have my COO contact your sponsorship department right away."

Robert Flynn also stood up and walked back to his desk to pick up the phone. "I’ll give them a heads-up so we can fast-track the process."

"Hello? Heon, it’s Li Wei," Li Wei said after dialing Jin Heon’s number. "Here’s the situation. I’m having coffee with the Chief of the LAPD, Robert Flynn, and we just negotiated a sponsorship..."

He briefly explained the process to her.

"Amazing! You’re incredible, Boss!" Jin Heon squealed softly. "This is fantastic. It’s a crucial step in opening up corporate and government sponsorships for us!

"Commercial institutions and government agencies have astronomical procurement volumes every year. We were just missing an endorsement from an agency like this, and I never expected you to seal the deal with the LAPD directly! You’re the best!"

Li Wei rubbed his nose, smiling without a word. After finalizing a few more details, he hung up the phone.

Robert Flynn refilled both their coffee cups and sat back down. Perhaps the effects of [Adaptability (Bronze)] hadn’t worn off yet, or perhaps Li Wei’s [Knight’s Aura] provided a bonus—or maybe it was a combination of both. Regardless, Flynn began to chat with Li Wei like an old friend.

"How old are you this year? Twenty?" he asked, looking at the family portrait on his desk. "To achieve so much at twenty... when I was your age, I was in the police academy dorms, betting with my roommates over who could eat fifteen donuts in one sitting.

"I won," he added, picking up his coffee.

Li Wei smiled but didn’t say anything.

"Ah, you really are a good kid," Flynn sighed. "Much better than my own son."

"Chief Flynn," Li Wei replied, "everyone moves at their own pace."

The two chatted for another half hour. Flynn spent the time sharing gossip from his youth and stories about his family.

"Come over to my house for dinner next time," he said. "Bring your girlfriend and come with an empty stomach. My wife makes the best baked pies in all of Los Angeles."

"I’ll definitely take you up on that," Li Wei said with a smile. "May I ask what your home address is—"

"Here is my personal business card," Flynn smiled warmly. "And you can give yours to..."

His hand paused in mid-air as he blinked.

"Me," he finished.

Li Wei exchanged personal business cards with him, inconspicuously checking his watch at the same time.

"It’s getting late," Li Wei said with a smile. "I won’t disturb your work any longer. I need to go check on my poor, injured employee."

"Alright," Flynn said. "I won’t see you out. May God bless your employee with a speedy recovery."

A smile reappeared on his face, but it was worlds apart from the one he wore just a minute ago. As he watched Li Wei’s retreating figure close the door, he stared at the spot where the young man had just sat, his brow furrowing slightly.

Strange. Why had he talked to him about Sean today? And why had he so hastily... negotiated a sponsorship?

"What the hell was that?" Flynn muttered, picking up his coffee. "Is it just because the kid is good-looking that I took such a liking to him?"

After the Cadillac Escalade left the Los Angeles Police Department headquarters, Chen Haisheng drove onto Highway 134, heading toward the San Fernando Valley. About twenty minutes later, the Escalade parked outside Jason Miller’s home on Lankershim Avenue.

Li Wei stepped out of the car. Just as he reached the door and prepared to knock, he heard the voices of Jason Miller’s family from inside.

"...You never mentioned this job was so dangerous before," a woman’s voice said. "How did you end up getting mixed up with gangs after only a few days?"

Jason Miller replied, "Be gentle, hiss... Sigh, I didn’t expect it either. Who knew the situation ran this deep?"

"It serves you right to hurt. It’ll teach you a lesson," the woman said. "Risking your life for a job—is it really worth it?"

"Think about the bills we’ve finally paid off, Megan," Jason Miller said. "Would you rather take a little risk, or go back to the way we were living before?"

Megan fell silent. A few seconds later, she spoke again. "You need to take at least a few extra days off this time. Don’t go back until your injuries are fully healed."

"Yeah, yeah! By the way, Dad," a child’s voice chimed in, "tell me how you took down those three kidnappers again!"

"That’s right," Megan asked, sounding curious as well. "Are you really that tough? How come I’ve never noticed—"

"Cough, cough... Alright! Don’t say things like that in front of the kid," Jason Miller said loudly. "Maybe I just caught them off guard in the dark, and with God’s blessing, I got lucky."

"Dad, tell me the details again. Please!"

"Uh, Jack, about that..."

Hearing this, Li Wei smiled and knocked on the door. KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.

"Coming!" Jack shouted. THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. He ran over and pulled the door open. Seeing Li Wei, he froze for a moment.

"Mom!" he screamed, turning his head back toward the house. "It’s Li Wei! Li Wei in the flesh!"

Upon hearing this, Jason and Megan stood up from the kitchen at the same time and hurried over. Jason Miller’s head and hands were wrapped in white gauze; it looked like he had just been getting his dressings changed.

"The one and only," Li Wei said, ruffling Jack’s hair. "I came to visit our hero."

Jack touched Li Wei’s hand, then felt his own hair before screaming again.

"I’m never washing my hair for the rest of my life!" he declared. "Mom, Li Wei touched my head, did you see?"

"Mr. Li Wei," Jason Miller said, both surprised and delighted. He instinctively added, "Please come in, come in. Megan, get my coffee, the best one..."

"I took a trip to the Los Angeles Police Department to get a read on the situation," Li Wei said. "How are your injuries?"

Jason Miller led him into the living room. Hearing Li Wei’s question, he reflexively touched the back of his head and winced, baring his teeth. "Just flesh wounds. The doctor said to observe them for another couple of days and I’ll be fine."
